Well this should be interesting. They are way more brave than me. No way on God’s green earth would I go to a park like that. I hope they have good tracking to see how many cases result from opening and how fast it spreads.
I hope so too!! ...as it will affect us in FL when they do open here. Then people from all over will start coming, by car and air. I have heard rumblings that maybe an open date in July...but it is inevitable that they will open.

Me neither! And with rubber gloves & face masks? What would be the point? Your mask & filter would get drenched the final descent of Splash Mountain. Also hard to eat your turkey leg.

Listening to Orange County mayor this morning (Mr. Demings) - he gave a slight indication IMO of the theme parks opening in June. I feel so bad for all of the people who worked there - am hearing some are being denied unemployment too. I hope that all gets sorted out.

By the time they sort things out the devastation will be too vast to recover imo.

On another note, why are theme parks opening when schools & colleges are still shut down through summer- and some continuing shutdown this fall. I get economic needs. But why inconsistencies? My daughter is done with the online format, but doesn’t want to be delayed with graduation. Online tuition isn’t discounted & quality of instruction & feedback sucks. Hard to know what to do.

I’m wondering too. I really expected there to be summer school for those at risk of failing a grade. New readers need a lot of support to get a good base. Those with learning disabilities need tutors.

I’m curious to see how many 11th graders actually return for their senior year. They could be really close, knock out a few online courses and go right into college. Education needs to be revamped anyway.

Why are some being denied unemployment? Is it the horrible UI system in FL? Horrible for these folks.

After a week of limited reopening under phase one of the Gov. Ron DeSantis’ recovery plan, many are asking when the state will move into phase two and what does it entail?

The limited return to normalcy is part of DeSantis’ “phase one” reopening plan to get the Sunshine State’s economy humming again, but there have been some clues released about what’s next.

What will be included in Phase 2?

Bars, pubs, and nightclubs that derive more than 50 percent of sales from alcohol will be able to operate at 50 percent of building capacity with an emphasis on diminished standing room capacity and prioritizing outdoor service, according to the governor’s plan.

Gyms and fitness centers will be able to operate at 75% capacity.

Restaurants will be able to increase occupancy to 75%, if appropriate social distancing and a minimum of 6-feet separates parties.

The plan says that in phase two, theme parks could consider reopening with capacity limits, strict social distancing and proper measures to clean and disinfect.

Sporting events will be encouraged to limit the occupancy of venues to 50 percent and will have to practice strict social distancing during phase two.

This is sad. Self serve buffets are not likely to return, ever.

Coronavirus: Sweet Tomatoes permanently closing 97 restaurants
Yep. No mo' buffets. This is really going to hit Las Vegas
Perfect opportunity for some techie, digital arts ppl to create a buffet app where you sit at your table, open your app- or tabletop screen, right next to the salt & pepper- and view the buffet digitally. You scoop what you want, like a video game, while a waiter replicates your choices & beings it to your table. Keeps the customization of buffet dining but adds better hygiene for post COVID-19 era. Could be integrated with the digital tabletop billing & credit card swipe machines many restaurants use now. Can also still have all-you-can-eat pricing.

It’s a new era, but it’s also a tech era. I could see this happening.

ETA: Meant to toss your cruise ship post in here too @oviedo.

now that's a great idea - or perhaps still have the buffet food behind the sneeze screen and point to what you want like at Ikea ? They plate it up and you get it when they are done. now crowding of course - I do like the app idea.

Ha, who remembers the Automat?

Maybe a tech version. I used to think it was so cool.

There are a lot of people here from other states and they tend to be on the mature side, retired, or whatever. They saw this freight train coming and stepped aside. The stay at home and go home was for the people in denial.

Florida coronavirus: Floridians stopped traveling well before official shutdowns, data shows

many Floridians stopped traveling long before their county or state stepped in.

the data showed that people sharply cut their travel well before their counties and the state issued stay-at-home orders.

Remember that lady that passed out while driving with a mask and wrecked? I have a feeling that lots of folks don't know how restrictive the air flow can be for a long time, and they could pass out or worse on a ride that makes a person anxious etc... and asking kids to wear a mask all day... herding cats.

Understood, and it's not like they can even travel during their gap year if that's what they chose to do to wait it out.
