'FRIDAY, January 9:

- Shots are fired during a car chase on the National 2 highway northeast of Paris with two suspects who might be the Kouachi brothers, a police source says.

- The men hijack a car from a woman who says she recognised them as Cherif and Said Kouachi, according to police.

- One person is taken hostage at a printing business near Charles de Gaulle airport, and police swarm the industrial park where it is located. Army and police helicopters swoop down on the site.

- Schools near the building are evacuated, and the interior ministry says that police are trying to "establish contact" with the massacre suspects.

- At least two people are killed and five others taken hostage after a shoot-out at a kosher supermarket in eastern Paris involving a man who police said might be linked to the policewoman's murder.

- Schools near the scene hard by the city's ring road are locked down.'

Explosions Heard Near Hostage Stand-Off


Gunshots have been heard in Dammartin-en-Goele where the two Charlie Hebdo suspects are holed up with a hostage.

Sky's Ian Woods, who is on the scene, said: "There was a burst of gunfire that lasted about 10 seconds. Since then we’ve heard four or five explosions."

Still watching sky news, they just showed pics of people being escorted by police and it said a couple hours ago, I think this is what the tweeter may have seen. I think it is not the hostages though but people from nearby shops/cafes. This is where I couldn't hear as my DH put the vacuum on. It says on the breaking news banner the hostage taker is threatening to kill hostages if police attempt to storm the Charlie Hebdo shooters.

There were rounds of gunfire and several explosions heard at the printworks where the brothers have been holed up this afternoon. The gunfire came minutes after armed counter-terror officers were seen traveling towards the building.

There appears to be smoke coming from the printworks at Dammartin-en-Goele.

Schools have been evacuated. Now trying to figure out what happened comparing what reporters in different positions heard. The K brothers have arsenal of sorts with them, so the reporters a wondering if the brothers tried to make a move?
