According to an arrest warrant, Karimah Elkins told officers she was with her son between 8 and 11 a.m. on Goodyear Avenue when she was actually being detained at the Glynn County Detention Center at that time. She was released around 10:30 a.m.

According to Katrina Elkins' arrest warrant, she told officers she was with her nephew between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. on P Street, which is contrary to De'Marquise's statement that he was at another location during that time.

So mom told LE she was with her son, DE at a time when she was actually in police custody for something completely different?? That was not terribly clever of her.

Good eye! But reading further, I don't think it is an actual change of plea in this case, I think it is probably put in every indictment, for every accused person to sign if they decide to change their plea.

But why are they different?
It only says that for a couple of them.
It doesn't say that for DE.

ETA: yes it does
It gives signature lines for both on all suspects.

Sorry for the confusion

Does anybody know if the March 11 shooting was reported to police at that time.

"The indictment says that on March 11, Elkins pointed a gun at Wilfredo Calix-Flores and demanded his wallet and cell phone and then shot him in the arm with a .22-caliber revolver."

From your link.

Doering said West was never a suspect in her child’s slaying nor was the boy’s father, Louis Santiago, who lives across Union Street from West.

“We believe the location and the victim were both random,’’ Doering said.

Does anyone know what kind of penalties the suspected murderer's relatives will receive if they are convicted? Are they facing hard prison time, or just a slap on the wrist?

Just hearing about this other shooting on local news. But they did not say. Must have been since LE knew about it and the gun. MOO

grand jury indictment.

The 11 counts returned Wednesday against De'Marquise Elkins include malice murder in the slaying of 13-month-old Antonio Santiago. The indictment says Elkins shot the boy in the face with a .22-caliber revolver while trying to rob the child's mother in coastal Brunswick last Thursday.

The indictment charges 15-year-old Dominique Lang on seven counts including felony murder. Elkins' mother, 36-year-old Karimah Elkins, and sister, Sabrina Elkins, were charged with trying to dispose of the gun in a saltwater pond.

Now that an indictment has been filed I'd like to point out that it says exactly what I said happened <modsnip>.

It's says he changed his plea

So he has changed his plea from not-guilty to NO CONTEST!

I would imagine mom's medical records are of no consequence then.

It seems to me that there has been some exceptional police work by this little towns LE and I applaud them. In the face of such a dispicable and senseless murder, they managed to focus quickly on their suspects. I can hear <modsnip> now..."my baby was with me all morning!!" LE: oh really...how do you explain that when you were actually incarcerted at the time of the murder?" Um...well.... She sure sang a different tune then! I am sure she had more to tell them as well, incriminating her son and telling them where they put the murder weapon.

I would like to think that even the lowest forms of life, including local gang bangers, would even think that this young man is a despicable monster. How many people, no matter how hardened, like a baby killer???:furious:

On the local news it was saying, either the mother or aunt that had given an alibi was actually incarcerated or being detained/held herself during the time she gave alibi???

News4jax was the one reporting this.

I can't believe they are publishing the names of the Grand Jury members.

I can.

I've seen it happen a lot. It's public knowledge.

I think it kind of sucks but according to the law, the public has a right to know is what I understand from following other cases.

Unfortunately, our society is changing. It's no longer frowned upon these days. Drive by's happen knowing there are children in the house, kids are jumped by other kids at school, hell even 1st graders are caught with drugs and weapons these days! The old school premise that you're not supposed to harm children was based on pride and honor.

These <modsnip> have none of that.

I was involved last year on the Websleuth's thread about the murder of Rusty Sneiderman. The boss of Rusty's widow was charged with his murder and he was on trial. During the trial, MANY Of us speculated and accused the widow of being involved. Websleuth's allowed this discussion even though police had not named her a suspect. The boss, Hemy Neuman, was convicted and 4 months after the trial, the widow was arrested as a co-conspirator.

In that case we accused the victim, poked holes in her story, discussed her ODD reaction and lack of tears when describing her husband's death and Websleuths never stopped it. I'm not sure how this situation is different.

Just my two cents based on posts made previously in this community.

and this case is ramping up again....

So he changed his plea from not guilty to guilty???

I think it's just an option if they plea out. That's where they sign. Since he's innocent until proven guilty in a court, it's presumed he pleas innocent and signs otherwise.

I could be wrong but that's how I break it down.

Respectfully snipped:

Wow. That is an impressive level of stupidity.

I think you are right.
Marigold pointed out my error.

Sorry for the confusion.
I got excited and posted without reading the whole thing.

I got excited too when I read it, it is hard not to get excited about possible good news in situations like this.
