Agreed, it is common knowledge that there is no love lost b/t PH and NG but PH is the executor of the estate and nothing else...remember BK has been at odds with PH for months now.

Agreed the clear decision maker here is her husband and if not legally married, her dad. (Unless she has legal documents spelling out who she wants to make decisions for her).

nrdsb4 - The "no movemenet" criteria refers to purposeful movement. Totally areflexic - lac of purposeful movement. One of the neurologists at the hospital where I worked would pinch nipples - male or female - to see if this elicited any reflexic movement. (Always made me cringe) If refelxes are present it is a sign that the lower brain - the brain stem - is still functioning, and therefore the patient would not be brain dead. The brain stem functioning but higher brain function being absent is what causes a persistent vegetative state, as opposed to total brain death.

If I'm not mistaken, the nipple pinching thing is no longer considered appropriate in any setting in the US. It's kind of hard to believe it was ever considered so.

The purposeful movement thing is certainly appropriate, but that source didn't make that distinction, so I was curious.

Would there be a reason to wait several days to take someone off the ventilator? I understand that some people would want to wait for a miracle, but is there a medical reason to do so?

I think it would take longer to reach a decision if she's not completely brain dead or if they haven't been able to test for brain death yet (eg. if the tox screens haven't come through yet and they need to rule out drugs and chemicals that might depress brain function).

Sources connected to the Houston family tell TMZ ... doctors were testing BK's brain reaction to different stimuli, and saw "minimal response" during one of the tests. We're told doctors view this as a very slight improvement -- but it's enough to delay any immediate discussion of turning off life support.

Yes, it was some time ago, and as a nurse I cringed at the nipple pinching as there are other ways to measure reflexes. I thought the physician was, well, never mind, but you are right. I forgot to address that all sedatives, or other drugs that may be used to decrease metabolic demands, would be discontinued for at least an hour, most likely more,in order to adequately assess the patient. Of course the most glaring documentation is the flat EEG. I never saw anyone removed from a ventilator without 3 days of the same results - all of which matched the Harvard Criteria. I have not worked in ICU for some years now, so I don't know if there have been additional criteria added, or if the protocols have changed in any way. The Harvard Criteria was actually very thorough, IMO.

I'm listening to CNN and it was said, the two are supposedly not legally married, so some say they are, some say they aren't.

I wondered if maybe organ donation was maybe being worked on if the family agrees to that, could be why the delay. jmo idk

I just watched 5 episodes of "Houstons On Our Own".....jeez....they harped all over the couple. Trying to keep them separated all the time. He seemed to be a rock for her as they both lived with Witney.

Sad Sad Sad

I had read that Bobbi's husband doesn't have a job, but again, who knows? How old is he, he seems a lot older, but I'm not good at guessing ages.

I still don't know how a person ends up " face down" in a bathtub. Even a larger tub....how?

on a side note.....I just got rid of my tub for a walk-in shower.

BBM: When I first read about Bobbi Kristina, these were my thoughts exactly! Who takes a bath lying on their stomach?
My first thoughts were that this was A: attempted suicide or B: she was held underwater. MOO

I read that Bobby Brown and Nick Gordon were both by her bedside and the ones making the decisions this morning, I'll try to find the link, that seemed appropriate for me, I very much dislike the entire Houston family after watching that god-awful reality TV show.

Gordon, 25, and Bobbi Kristina's father, who are both at her side in an Atlanta area hospital, have been told to prepare for the worst, according to CBS46.
....

The family has remained tight-lipped about the cause of the emergency and her condition. On Saturday, her husband Nick Gordon was pictured looking anxious outside the emergency ward at North Fulton Hospital, with his hood up and a phone in his hand.

He was joined at the hospital by Bobbi's father Bobby Brown and family friend Tyler Perry, among others,TMZ reported.

If two family members have a restraining order prohibiting contact with each other... can they both be at the hospital?
Perhaps Nick comes out so family he isn't permitted around can go in to see her?
