I also live here in Brunswick, and am wondering how the neighbors didn't hear anything. Matt said they heard noises but wouldn't say what kind of noises. We aren't getting a lot if info around here except rumors. I have kept my scanner with me at all times and still have not heard a lot. There is a lot that goes on around here that we never hear about unless we are lucky enough to have a scanner. We also have had a lot of home invasion robbiers that we never hear about. I personally don't think this is one of them.I have heard that the only survivor that they know about is only a child of 3 to 4 yrs old. The people were white that was killed one was black which was a boyfriend to one of the Toler family. I wish they would go ahead a release the names.

Do you know if the police chief is going to have a press conference today?

thanks

I heard that they was supposed to be one at 9am this morning but I missed it and still trying to find out about it. will let you know as soon as I hear anything

I don't have any new info to share but I have been reading this thread since it first started.
I just wanted to say a great big thanks to all of the locals (welcome newbies!!!) who are sharing info on here, it is extremely helpful!!!!

I think we seem to question that is so many cases but from what Beth Karis has said over the years many times gunshots are not heard even if it was in an apartment complex and someone lived right by the person that got shot.

It does tend to make me think that possibly handguns were used instead of a shotgun. A shotgun has a huge boom and to go off this many times I do believe someone would have heard it.

If they were shot at point blank rage then just by having the gun up against the skull would absorb some of the sound.

To me they had to come in with weapons drawn and tie these people up and then methodically kill them one by one like Joesph Duncan did to the Greone family. I don't think they all could have been sleeping when shot because some of them would have heard the commotion and tried to flee and would most likely have other gunshot wounds instead of being shot in the head.

I sure hope LE brings these monsters down. How they wiped out everyone there including young children shows how dangerous they are.

imo

Are we sure the victims were shot? Seems I remember something about them being beaten... but not sure where I heard that.

If anyone has access to the Brunswick News online they have 2 of the 911 calls made a lot more info on these they are 10 to 15 minutes long.

Are we sure the victims were shot? Seems I remember something about them being beaten... but not sure where I heard that.

The media first said they had all been shot in the head but the son that called 911 said they were beaten.

However, if they were all shot at close range right up against their skull then head shots bleed profusely and the son may have thought since the victims face was covered in blood that they had been beaten. Also, the older adult men may have tried to protest and protect their family and may have been struck in the face with the butt of the weapon.

Hopefully when the autopsy reports are done the police will tell us the weapon used.

I just dont see how they could subdue 9 people if they didnt have a firearm drawn when they entered.

Toler died from brain injuries resulting from gunshot wounds, according to a spokesperson for Memorial University Medical Center in Savannah. His body has been sent to the Georgia Crime Laboratory in Savannah for an autopsy. There was no public report of what type of firearm was used.

A ninth victim of the shooting, reportedly a juvenile, remained in critical condition Sunday night in Savannah.

From what I've been reading, it seems as if I'm nt the only one questioning the competency of the police in handling this.

As an example:

All seven bodies were tentatively identified by Saturday evening. Doering said families of the victims had been notified, but he would not release any names or ages before receiving the autopsy results.
"I really don't know the ages," Doering said. "There were some older-aged victims and we believe there were some in their teens."

Either he is saying he doesn't want to release the names yet or he really doesn't know. Which is rather hard to believe since everyone else does.

and

Guy Heinze Jr., 22, a relative of those found killed, was charged with illegal possession of prescription drugs and marijuana, tampering with evidence and making false statements to police, Doering said. Doering did not know whether he had an attorney.

How could he not know if the man has an attorney? And I find it incredible that they seem to focussing on what seems to be the rather small potatoes crimes of Guy Jr.

and

As investigators toll long hours and medical examiners take on the slow labor of performing autopsies on the deceased, Doering told reporters that police officials are working to piece together a baffling puzzle that has left them few clues to the motive for the murders.
"Now the question is who is responsible and ... what would motivate someone to do this?" he said.
"We just simply don't have a whole lot to go on."

Don't they talk to people? Anytime something happens to someone, all one needs to do is ask around. People always know something. Yes, it may be just a rumor, but rumors are places to start

Either Doering just doesn't explain himself well or is completely cluesless (IMHO) as to how to handle this.

There are more examples of his statements. These are just a few.

Now that we are hearing about the 19 year old being shot, how did neighbors not hear? I also heard on the 911 tapes about the dog being tied on the porch so that makes me think it was somebody they knew well, very well. I sure hope we find out more info today. We all need to be more careful. My prayers go out to this family this is just a great tragedy.

Police: 8th person dead in Ga. mobile home attack
By RUSS BYNUM (AP) – 16 hours ago

BRUNSWICK, Ga. — An eighth person has died in an attack on a Georgia mobile home, police said Sunday.

Glynn County Police Chief Matt Doering identified the victim as 19-year-old Michael Toler. He was one of two people critically injured in the attacks in Brunswick along the Georgia coast. A ninth is hospitalized.

The man who reported the gruesome slayings, originally of seven people, faces charges of lying to police and tampering with evidence, and authorities said they haven't ruled him out as a suspect in the killings.

The killer was not among the dead, whose bodies were found Saturday, or the last survivor, according to Doering.

Doering also announced a $25,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest and conviction. He said police have no other suspects, adding: "We need help."

I also wondered about the police, in fact, I looked up on wikipedia to see how small this community is. Would the police department in a town this size have the capabilities to investigate a crime of this magnitude. I live in a small community and when there is a murder here, which is rare, the Texas Rangers are brought in to investigate, they are equipped for this as in crime scene photos, finger analysis, investigating techniques etc. The knowledge that is coming out about this crime is lacking or this department is keeping it close to the vest. Hope they don't mess it up!!

Here are two good candidates for suspects:

Saturday afternoon, a woman came to the scene in a white car, spoke briefly to some residents and then began screaming.

Belinda West contacted the Times-Union Sunday and identified herself as the woman. West said her son was not inside the mobile home as one of the New Hope residents had said and that he is safe and well.

She came to the park looking for her brother-in-law who lived in the mobile home, but whom she declined to name Sunday.

She was driven to the park by Christ West, who is also her brother in law, she said. “We [are] waiting to hear from them,’’ she said.

Guy said his mother was also murdered so that can't be her son. Then her son and her brother-in-law are not present, but evidently live in the home.

After hearing the 911 call, I honestly don't believe Guy did this. He sounds genuine to me. I don't think they would haul someone in that just lost his entire family because of some pills or pot they found. The tampering and obstruction charge probably came from being told not to enter and he did it anyway. He sounded kinda drunk so maybe he got out of hand at the scene, but I think they may have taken him into protective custody until they find the perp/perps. Someone wants them all dead and two people who live there were not accounted for when this article was written.

New here just finish posting my first post and I guess it went into cyber space.

The police chef does drive me crazy too. I am thinking he is covering his butt extra well. I was really mad when this first was reported cause I don't live too far in FL from this county. I was a little nervous if there could be some serial killer on the loose.
I am thinking if these people were shot in face or head they could not be postively ID 'd and so the chef is waiting on the coronor.

I personally believe that they are holding Guy Jr, the caller, in the jail to protect him in case he was the intended target.
