I wonder how a 7 hour event can be turned into an entire book? :twocents:

Just like they can turn 30 minutes of news into a 24 hour news day...she got her 15 minutes plus...mpi

She is not wealthy and this was likely a life changing experience for her. Personally, I am not interested in the book but she does have a story to tell for those who want to read it.

Does anyone know when the trial of the Atlanta Courthouse shooter, Brian Nichols, will begin? It was supposed to be in the Spring, but was delayed. Is there any news of when this trial will take place?

I just saw that this trial starts on January 10. Court TV said they would carry it.

ATLANTA (AP) -- Twenty-two months after a man's rape trial ended in gunfire, his murder trial will begin amid tight security in the same courthouse complex that was the scene of the bloodshed.

This time, Brian Nichols could be sentenced to die if convicted in the killings of a judge, a sheriff's deputy, a court reporter and a federal agent. Jury selection in the murder trial begins Thursday under heightened security at the Fulton County Courthouse complex in downtown Atlanta.

"I refuse to say it's going to be business as normal," said sheriff's Maj. Antonio Johnson, who became chief of security at the courthouse a few months after the rampage.

Prosecutors allege that when Nichols was being escorted to court for the continuation of his retrial on rape charges on March 11, 2005, he beat a deputy, stole her gun and shot the other victims. He surrendered the next day after taking a woman hostage in her suburban home, authorities said.

The article said the trial could last six months or more, with a couple of months for jury selection. Were the shootings inside the courtroom captured on surveilance tape?

how his family is dealing with it,

I really don't understand why they insist on the DP, LWOP is enough surely,

instead they have brought the public defenders office almost to its knees because of one defendant,

there are more victims than his who also await justice, and wasting all this money on one case is a travesty in my opinion

Hi all,

I think the push is because he did this in a courtroom, he killed a judge and staff

But I agree I read the other day what's it's cost them to push the DP issue and the jury may not give him that sentence in the long run then it would all be for not. The creep agreed to a plea deal of LWOP.

Plus the defence is now going to be a mental health defence, so the whole trial will be for the defence spent trying to avoid the DP, not about guilt or innocence as that is a given,

so it just takes one juror to say no DP and millions of dollars have been wasted,

unless the DP is in the sole power of the judge, if that's the case then he will get the DP imo,

but if left up to the jury who knows what they will vote,

LWOP surely would suffice,

ETA: <Giant snippage of my original mis-post here> OOPS! Wrong case! *BLUSH* :blushing:

I have to wonder if this case will come to trial in my lifetime!! So much money spent already and yet no trial. One has to wonder how much will be spent when it FINALLY comes to trial!

I think they should just take the plea, LWOP is surely enough, will they think it was money well spent if the jury elects to go NG by reason of insanity, or if they do find him G do not give him DP,

either could happen, it is just such a waste of money for one trial, and it IMO is doing justice no favours, it is bringing the public defenders office to its financial knees,
