AUGUSTA, Ga (WRDW/WAGT) --- The Richmond County Sheriff's Office was called to a "suspicious situation" on Milledgeville Road and Golden Camp Road, but it has turned out to be a false alarm.
The Sheriff's Office was called to Milledgeville Road and Golden Camp Road around 7:45 pm for a strong odor, a release states. Investigators found a "suspicious tool box." The Crime Scene Unit began processing the tool box and discovered a large tortoise inside the tool box.
Large crowds arrived at the scene shortly after the call. There were rumors circulating that investigators were on the scene to handle a possible lead in the case of missing 16-year-old Latania Janell Carwell. Investigators say, however, this call has no connection to Carwell or any other on-going criminal investigation.
