No cameras were allowed in court, but WJCL 22 News’ Andy Cole was there. He spotted Simon in court, dressed in a white sweater and black pants, taking a fair amount of notes during the seven hour day.

The day began by questioning the entire group on basic questions: have you heard of this case, do you know anyone involved and could you be impartial if you had to serve on this jury. For the record, nine potential jurors said they had already made their mind up about Simon’s innocence or guilt.

Out of 67 possible jurors 20 qualified and 16 were dropped. The goal is to have a pool of 50 qualified potential jurors. Final motions hearing is scheduled for tomorrow morning then more jury selection on Friday.

The judge hopes to start the trial early next week.

For those of you in the know.......
If a jury is picked today, will the trial start tomorrow?
I watched the local wsav news here as they are covering the trial and it was stated they expect the jury to be selected by Friday. I also heard they let a lot of potential jurors go, the reporter stating most jurors already had their mind made up about her guilt. I'll see if I can't find a link.

Eta:

"Quite a few potential jurors outright admitted they had formed opinions on the case despite not seeing any evidence presented in the courtroom. Around a dozen jurors were released."

Was she really taking notes or did she finally get the colored pencils she had been whining about?

Yep, and LE didn't muck about. They sent him to Quantico.

The defense will not get any traction trying to argue that the remains found were too damaged or contaminated. That doesn't mean her lawyer won't try, though.

MOO
Well, that's going to suck for the Defense then IMO, because 12 jurors are not going to appreciate them trying to insinuate those little baby's remains found dumped in a nasty land fill that workers had to search for weeks in the heat, while bio Mom sat on her lawn drinking, blasting music and shouting back at protesters are not those of Little Quinton.

I wonder if she will still have that defiant attitude she had before his remains were found? I can remember Leilani saying (paraphrasing) "If you find Quinton's body, I will drive to the Sheriff''s Office and turn myself in". I wanted to wipe that smug, delusional smirk right off her face when she said that. Does she still have that cold indifferance or has reality set in that she is going to go to prison for a very long time I wonder?

Prosecutors say Leilani got into a fight the night of Oct. 4, 2022 with her boyfriend, and the father of one of her surviving children, Daniel Youngkin. She left the home and later returned. At some point that night, she was under the influence of marijuana, Percocet and cocaine.

Police interviews were also played in court where Leilani admitted to taking cocaine and said, “it’s almost like blackout drinking. …The light is on, but nobody is home.”

More at the link, including a threat of suicide when Leilani thought boyfriend didn’t love her anymore. What an awful mother and person. IMO

Melanie Bowling, 28, testified that she met Leilani after her and her then-boyfriend Cody Wharton moved into Bowling's neighborhood in 2017.

Bowling told attorneys that, at the time, she saw Leilani as a little sister. Bowling, too, was a teen mom and testified that she knew the struggles Leilani was going through as a teen mom herself.

After Leilani broke up with Wharton, the father of Leilani's first child, Bowling testified that Leilani met Henry "Bubba" Moss who later introduced her to, what Bowling called "hard drugs."

Moss is the biological father of Quinton Simon.

Once Leilani became pregnant with Quinton, Bowling testified that Moss urged Leilani to get an abortion, which Leilani didn't want to have.

Bowling testified that Leilani told her several times, "Maybe if I didn't have Quinton, I'd still have Bubba."

Throughout her testimony, Bowling also detailed several instances where, over the phone, she heard Leilani verbally and physically abusing Quinton.

After reviewing the arguments, Judge Stokes decided that nearly all of that evidence and witness testimony is admissible.

The only evidence that isn't admissible is regarding the night Leilani and her mother were out taking shots at a Tybee Island bar.

More at the link.

Edited. Bolding mine.

Too bad the judge wouldn’t allow that information. I think it really speaks to her mindset at the time and her regard for her son’s life, or I should say disregard.

For those new to the case: Quinton was reported missing on Wednesday, October 5, 2022 by his mother. On Tuesday, October 18, 2022, his mother, Leilani Simon, and grandmother, Billie Jo Howell were seen at Sting Ray’s, a local Tybee Island bar taking shots of Patron. Staff said they were loud, laughing and enjoying themselves which upset some of the other diners. The FBI was searching a landfill at the time for her 20 month old son, Quinton.

Rest in peace sweet Quinton, justice is coming. MOO

Monday can't come soon enough! I hope she gets what's coming to her.
Does anyone think that the boyfriend (Moss) is going to testify against her?
Does he have any charges against him?
I’m expecting that Bubba Moss will testify; he’s got a lot to say about Leilani. When Quinton went missing she told LE he had the boy but he was cleared through video evidence.

Leilani also lied when she was caught stealing from the neighbor, saying Moss was involved. Bubba also had a lot to say about Leilani’s drug use in an interview with the Daily Mail.

Thank you MsMarple. The difficult thing about waiting so long for a trial is that some of the facts get lost (in my mind anyway ;) )

Bubba is Quinton's father, she had another boyfriend at the time of Quinton's death. I believe his name is Daniel Youngkin. He might've been the one who called 911, so he should testify as well.

Yeah, I’m pretty sure Youngkin will testify. According to the story he was the last person to see Quinton that morning and you’re right he was also the person who called 911. With Leilani shrieking in the background, trying to give an Oscar performance.

I wouldn’t put it past her and her defense team to try to blame him for Quinton’s murder. JMO

They might, but he seems pretty stand up, considering...he definitely got outta dodge early on.

On Oct. 5 at 9:42 a.m., Simon made the 911 call for the missing child. In the police report, she is listed as the “complainant” and the “victim.”

I honestly don't remember some of the finer details, maybe this media outlet got it wrong?

Leilani and her boyfriend called 911 to report the child missing on the morning of Oct. 5, 2022. The 911 call, played in court on Tuesday, included Leilani wailing in the background and telling the operator, “I can’t find my son. I can’t find my one-year-old son!” During the call, Leilani and her boyfriend tell the dispatcher that they found the front door open and that the child must have been abducted.

Yeah, you can hear the 911 call in the CourtTV link I posted upthread. SMH at her pretend crying like she was upset. Boohoo.
