And it still amazes me that no one has come forward to raise the reward money! This is a family of three successful grown adults who by all means have access to chip in to increase the reward money!

I am positive if the tables were turned, their parents would give every penny they had to find the murderers! What is the hold up here???

But this is an assumption. We don't know anyone's financial position.

And we don't know the relationships within the family. The death of an adult child, especially one involved in drugs, has great potential to cause conflict within a family. It's not hard to imagine that some people would be firm on a tough love stance and some might never be able to turn their back on someone they feel needs them and any degree in between. :twocents:

:welcome5: Glad to have you posting. How are your relatives taking the news about the Dermonds? Worried or feel the Dermonds was targeted specifically?

I wonder about the deceased son being omitted from the obituaries, or barely mentioned. I kind of figured with him having drug problems he might have alienated his brothers and sister by being a user and all the drama that comes along with people who have drug addictions. I'm sure the Dermonds loved him very much and that might have caused some discord among the siblings who felt the parents should have booted him to the street. Just a thought. What are your thoughts?

Again, glad you're here abbyGATOR! :seeya:

OMG, I don't know why I haven't posted this before, I think something was alluded to in the first thread, mentioned Druglords and got blasted :floorlaugh:

This reminds me of a situation involving my daughter years ago who had this friend who was the offspring of a guy from the area, who was also killed in a drug deal gone bad, 9 years ago, shot in the face.

I told my duaghter, I didnt' want her hanging around him alone or coming to my house with him (the mother was out of the picture but continued to stalk the son, still in and out of trouble herself) becuase the mother may follow him but my thinking was that if she found out who her son's friends were, she might or might know someone who, may rob from one of us, thinking they had money for their drug habits or payoffs

At any rate, I didnt' feel good about the situation, it seemed dangerous, the son was really ok, had wonderful grandparents that raised him and his sister (who later married a young youth minister)

SO, maybe it's the same way, maybe they don't want to link their names with HIS past, the reason they named only the grandson but not the son

So if that's the case, it would appear there could be reason to fear or atleast keep a low profile

Also, didnt' the Dermonds leave NJ, move to ATL, then onto the Chatahoochee river gated community near ATL and then to Oconee gated community?

The few people I've talked to, while out and about in the area, believe the Dermonds were targeted; a hit. I guess that makes them feel safe and they have nothing to worry about? I think many have only read and seen the articles and news broadcasts readily available to them. They aren't looking for updates every day like I am. I am worried about it and that's why I signed up here. To me, they are sticking their heads in the sand but that's JMO. Different coping mechanisms, I suppose...

We're very glad you signed up here too Carolinapeach! At least you can pass on some of the information and insight you gain here to those who think there is nothing to worry about. I happen to believe Websleuths is a great support group :gathering: :grouphug: It helps to be able to talk with others who have the same worries.

You'd think, honeybun1807. From my experience, warnings are only given to GA communities by LE/DNR when a rogue black bear is sighted roaming in the neighborhood..jmo

Imo, if Sheriff Sills truly believes that there is no threat to the community. He would release the FBI BAU2 psychological behavioral profile of the unknown suspect/s...jmo

In my GA county, we are given warnings of threats to public safety. Not even three months ago, there was a big arrest and while dude was being searched for, it was all over the local news to stay inside and keep your doors locked.

I don't know. Good question though. Things were as they should be... ?

:wink:They were just so up in age, I can't imagine who would want to harm them tho, they might've lived to be 100 with their amazing health they seemed to have

Thank you! It does help!

There have been other pictures of Mrs. D other than the DL picture. In one she looks olde than the DL picture and she's wearing what looks to be a hat -such as one might wear at a birthday party. There's another of several people with Mr. Dermond sitting around and he too looks older (just my opinion). If you google images of Shirley Dermond and Russell Dermond you might be able to see those pictures and maybe some others rather than the DL pics. Would love to hear your opinion if they look older than the pics in the DL photos! :seeya:

BTW, I sorta look like Wildabeest's avatar in my DL photo. :floorlaugh:

Bootsctr--- too funny!!! I just moved from Dallas.

I don't know about Putnam County because we're just weekenders but hopefully, they operate like your county. The PD in my town keeps us in the dark way too much to my liking. I wonder sometimes if the newspapers are in cohoots with them as well. Things will happen in town and you know they happened but you will never hear another word. Very frustrating.

I don't think your instincts regarding your daughter's the situation were wrong. Better safe than sorry. It would certainly be a reason to keep a low profile too. You can probably imagine the rumors or talk of the family after such a tragic ending. . . "well you know their loaded, blah, blah, blah...."

Yes I do believe the Dermonds did leave NJ for ATL then the Chatahoochee gated community and Oconee. They do seem to have kept a low profile for which I don't blame them. My son got involved with the wrong crowd and made me a nervous wreck. At one point, I was convinced these drug people were going to break into our house and murder us all.

By the way, I love your new siggy about families and not knowing someone until you've lived with them. :giggle:

Thank Goodness! How scary! Especially if helicopters were in the air too. We live close to some prisons and when there's an escapee on the loose word travels fast and everybody is told to stay indoors and keep your doors locked. I do that anyway and make sure the dog is with me. She sounds ferocious, but she'd only lick you to death - the evil person wouldn't know it though.

so you know where I"m coming from
The kid was ok, his mom was psycho, haha, and I'm sure she may have evenutally needed money, saw her on the evictions list several times, mugshots like 13 times, ridiculous

I have known people who had a child in drugs and they got things stolen before, like utility trailers, etc

So I guess it'd be interesting to know their ages, when the Dermonds moved to ATL, then to the gated community, then to the OTHER gated community

So at 78, they were building a million dollar home? WTH? That's a lot of stress, much less if you are 78

so how mnay times do people over 65 move? I dont' I'd think close to family, or IN with family at their age haha

I gotta look up more property records
and THANKS< I need to add another siggy! You don't know how much money someone has until you look at their bank account ahah

Oh yeah! Been there and done that! Yes, it would be interesting to know their ages when they moved and where. I agree huge stress to be building a house and at 78????? Keep us updated. I like where you're headed. Just keep looking over your shoulder - you never know whose reading here. Here's a picture that makes me think "loooooow profile". Like the newer siggy idea too.

As retired FBI Profiler Clint Van Zandt said, 'you don't escalate from shoplifting to decapitation'...

http://legalpronews.findlaw.com/article/c02f50581fa0dbe885b0ec6baacb5dc7

I am not sure I agree with him totally.

Did Siggs have a violent criminal background before he decapitated Jessica Ridgeway? Foxfire, what about that guy that killed his victims, dismembered them and then hid them in the top of a tall tree? Iirc he killed their dog too but I cant remember his name now.

To me that would be like saying no one will ever commit violent murder because they never had any violent criminal past history at all before they violently murdered someone and we know many murderers have had no criminal history whatsoever until they committed murder..

Did McDaniels have a violent criminal history before he decapitated Lauren Giddings?

I really think the decapitation in this case was done out of necessity by someone who was trying to protect their own identity and to prevent being tied to the victims.

IMO

I'm puzzled as to why Sheriff Sills would make this statement:

"Sills said he can’t recall a burglary in the neighborhood in his 18 years as sheriff."

The Dermonds’ friends hadn’t heard from them in days and went to their home in the upscale, gated, lakeside Great Waters community, where they found Russell Dermond in the garage.

“I don’t know that that’s the murder scene, but there’s obviously blood,” Sills said.

Residents described Reynolds Plantation as a safe enclave where people were comfortable leaving their doors unlocked.

“There is no crime in this area, no crime whatsoever,” ************ told CNN. “Nothing has ever happened here before, so this has been a shock to us.”

Added resident **********, “It’s just a total sense of sadness and confusion on how this could happen here

The RP newsletter clearly told a different story.

No...they were NOT building their home at 78 yrs old. It was built in 1999 fifteen years ago. I don't understand why you emphasized it was a million dollar house. Does it matter if someone builds a million dollar home, a half-million dollars home, or a yurt?

You must remember that Great Waters is ONLY ONE of the Reynolds Plantation neighborhoods. Many of the RP areas are in Greene County and Sheriff Sills is not the sheriff over there. When you read the newsletters they are talking about ALL their neighborhoods.

Yurt! Oh lawdy! A yurt! :floorlaugh:

I was under the impression that the house cost less to build, but was valued at over a million dollars.

Okay! I gotcha. That's right several neighborhoods, but all had the same access sticker for entrance to all the neighborhoods.

"Added resident **************, “It’s just a total sense of sadness and confusion on how this could happen here — and obviously a great deal of concern for Shirley and our prayers and hopes that she will be found.”

The 3,300-square-foot home where the Dermonds have lived since 1994 is valued at more than $1 million and sits on Lake Oconee, in the bucolic Great Waters neighborhood of Reynolds Plantation.

Off a moderately trafficked rural road, a divided, two-lane road lined with trees and a white fence winds through large, green expanses of tall grass, past a guard house into the neighborhood."
