I don't really think it's a search or arrest warrant. More likely some kind of court order or subpena for information - i.e. financial records, legal documents, cctv footage, phone or computer records, access to somebody's email or social media, sales records from a retail establishment where a weapon might have been purchased or maybe a subpena to a possible witness.

There are so many possibilities.

"He said he had not checked to see if additional donations had been made to the fund because he had been in Atlanta all day Thursday."

Related to the case? The possible lead???

Sorry, I was incorrect. The link was for filing for debt, as stated below by mck16. That particular attorney is in Atlanta.

I think there was gunshot residue found on mr.d.
I believe taking the head was because that bullet is in the head and will lead law enforcement
Right to their door.
All jmo

I am wondering if "law enforcement" would be all inclusive, which then possibly could also mean a ranger, like DNR?
I would think that DNR would know Lake Oconee quite well.
I am not stating that it Is a ranger, just throwing out ideas of what "law enforcement" could mean.
IMOO.

Are we to *advertiser censored* ume it is possible that a certain house is being watched?

For this person to seemingly have gone to such precise planning, it does not seem plausible that he would be stupid enough to use the internet to convey one word of this crime! IMO. So, that makes me doubt that Sills is getting a search warrant for computer records of any type.

For Sills to make this announcement, it has to be something stronger, bigger, IF it does turn out to be positive. IMO

I would not assume it, but it is a plausible scenario. Maybe somebody saw something suspicious (digging, cleaning, etc) and IF the sighting is what it could be, then it would be big. Or it could be just records.

And if it is just a court order for records from a cell carrier, internet seach company or something like that, my experience on the civil side is that it takes up to a couple of weeks to get anything back. I think there is a way for LE to get them quickly, but I think they have to show someone is in eminent danger. Not sure about that, though.

Bumping Carolinapeach's post;

‘Plausible’ lead being checked, Sills says

The Putnam County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a “plausible” lead in the Russell and Shirley Dermond murder case – but Sheriff Howard Sills said Friday morning the lead has a “big if” attached to it.
Sheriff’s officials were working on obtaining a court order in connection with that lead.

Sills said the phone call about the case was not made in response to the reward offered early this week. He would not discuss additional details.

......

Sills and sheriff’s detectives spent Friday in the state crime lab, he said, meeting “with at least eight different criminalists.”
He said they had a “long discussion about our forensic evidence – what they had done so far, what they could do, what they needed.”
“It was a productive meeting,” Sills said.

I just wanted to point this out.
CRIMINALIST:
*"A criminalist’s main job is to separate important evidence from trivial evidence that has little to no value to the case."

"Accurate interpretations of evidence and test results help identify the circumstances at the time a crime was committed, and could possibly reinforce eyewitness statements."

Just curious. Could it be not much? Could the helicopters be not much?

How much leeway does the sheriff have in perhaps flushing out this killer by innuendos?

He seems very clever and keeps the ball bouncing when he wants it to bounce!

TIA

Oconee Sherrif Facebook

There are two posts about HOA and tresspassing and how it must be handled.
Even stating the statutes.
Interesting if nothing else. People must be calling about "creepers" on their property?
I don't know.

Honeybun 1807, the honorable Sheriff is dealing with a very calculating, creative, deflective, manipulative, and cagey psychopath, imo...

I just hope Sheriff Howard Sills is as close to solving this heinous crime, and is as clever as everyone is giving him credit for. Although he has been in LE for 4 decades. With the exception of the Newaubian Cult leader's conviction of Dwight York in 2004, where the suspect was obvious. I'm not sure he has been presented with a high profile homicide case with the challenges that are presented in the Dermond murders.

I will give the Honorable Sheriff credit for utilizing many outside investigative resources in the Dermond case. Just hope the refusal to request the resources of the GBI, and holding them at arm's length doesn't come back to haunt him..

Does the FBI have a field office in Atlanta?

He did mention having a meeting yesterday with all the investigators.

Their crime lab is in Quantico. I don't know about satellite labs.

GBI main crime lab is in Dekalb County. Not Atlanta, but I thought he was not working with the GBI.

>_<how confusing!

LOL! Just watch, there will be some article tomorrow with Sills explaining his time in Atlanta now.

I would be astounded if the FBI did not have a very large field office in Atlanta. They will generally have a good presence anywhere there is a US Attorney's office and a US District Court. While I think DeKalb County is part of metro Atlanta, my bets are that he was with FBI guys.

Because kidnapping has not been completely ruled out, and some have speculated about laundering, that is probably enough to "justify" them remaining involved until we see what is really going on crime wise. And those guys love to solve crimes, so the "boots on the ground" agents want to help out as long as the higher-ups will allow them to be active.

gngr~snap, Dekalb County, Decatur, GA, is considered greater/metro Atlanta. Sheriff Sills is utilizing the GBI Crime Lab & ME. He has refused to invite the very experienced and elite special agents and investigators of the GBI to assist in the Dermond case.
The FBI has an Atlanta office as well as others across the state; Rome, GA, etc..

Can any of the locals weigh in on hunting around LO? Is it common to hear gunshots?

I really can't believe the killer took the head to hide a bullet. If Mr. D was shot anywhere on or near the lake it would be so loud! And I'd imagine police would have gotten lots of calls about it.

Maybe they got a tip a few days ago that they remembered that there was a loud noise one night that "they didn't think much about at the time, but just wanted them to know about." Sometimes it's the delayed tips that solve a crime. It's kinda like the old saying "you always find something the last place you look." You always solve the crime from the last tip, and they don't all come in immediately. Just like a jigsaw puzzle.....you know it's the Eiffel Tower, you just got to get all those last pieces to fit.
