'I stand before you, a heartbroken man,' Jason Riley said Wednesday afternoon.

'Part of my purpose has been taken. God gave me a beautiful daughter to father, protect, provide for and nurture. A man with an evil heart stole her life. He was in this country and in this state illegally,' he added.

My vision for every senator in this chamber is that you protect citizens from this illegal invasion,' Riley continued.

He turned to the fact that 'there are a million illegal aliens' in Georgia 'making families nervous' and cited Georgia's capital, Athens, where he was speaking held sanctuary policies.

'Please recognize Athens-Clarke as a sanctuary city, and this policy and the lack of action, led to the murder of my daughter,' he said.

What a profound and heartfelt testimony Laken's father gave before the Georgia state legislature.

The accused in the murder of Laken Riley has been indicted by a grand jury, and there is an additional charge of "Peeping Tom." Seems that the same day he murdered Laken Riley, he had been peeping into the window at University Village Apartments and spying on a university staff member who lived there.

I wished Le, and people took peeping toms more seriously, I think it escalates!

Jose Ibarra appeared before a Clarke County Superior Court judge for his arraignment hearing.

The hearing only lasted a few minutes as Ibarra’s attorneys entered his plea. Riley’s family was inside the courtroom in tears while Ibarra sat next to his attorney wearing headphones.

Riley, a 22-year-old nursing student, was killed while jogging on the University of Georgia campus on Feb. 22. Police arrested Ibarra, a Venezuelan migrant, and charged him in her death.

A grand jury indicted Ibarra on 10 charges: malice murder, three counts of felony murder, kidnapping with bodily injuries, aggravated assault with intent to rape, aggravated battery, obstructing or hindering a person from making an emergency telephone call, tampering with evidence and Peeping Tom.

When he arrived at Athens-Clarke County Superior Courthouse on Friday, Riley’s mother, Allyson Phillips, began sobbing, according to a Fox News reporter at the scene. A judge says the case will now have a status hearing in August, with a trial expected by this fall.

''Finding an impartial jury in Athens-Clarke County to consider the murder and other charges against Jose Ibarra for the killing of Laken Hope Riley is impossible, attorneys John Donnelly and Kaitlyn Beck said in a court filing. A shackled Ibarra appeared in court on Friday dressed in a button-front shirt and slacks.
Superior Court Judge H. Patrick Haggard said during the brief hearing that he was planning to start jury selection on Nov. 13 and then proceed with the trial the following week.
He gave prosecutors 10 days to respond to the request for a change of venue, which was filed on Thursday.''

IMO it won't matter, he's toast.

In court on Friday, Athens-Clarke County Superior Court Judge H. Patrick Haggard said that he wanted to start the trial on Nov. 18. Jury selection would begin on Nov. 13.

Haggard told the attorneys that he also plans to set up a hearing on any motions by the defense for late September and early October.

I didn't realize that Jose Ibarra has TWO brothers who have been arrested for being in the U.S. illegally.

Jason Riley, whose daughter was killed while running, urged lawmakers in Georgia to change immigration policies in the state. The suspect in his daughter's death crossed into the U.S. illegally. In Congress, lawmakers are also working to pass the Laken Riley Act, which would require immigration authorities to detain undocumented people arrested for theft and similar crimes.

No surprise -- the defendant entered illegally too! Venezuela loves USA for the drop in their crime rate.

What physical and electronic evidence do you believe the prosecution with have in this case?

I have not stayed up to date on things. All I remember is the evidence might be:

1) Video of the defendant going toward the trail and leaving it in a rapid exit.
2) Cuts/scratches on his arms?

What else is there at the crime scene? His DNA? Her hair on his body? Confession to his roommate?

What do you all know that has been released?

We at least know this much, from post above:

The court documents claim two cellphones, social media information, location data and “genetic and physical information” were seized without probable cause.

The University of Georgia Police Department, Georgia Bureau of Investigation, FBI and other law enforcement agencies obtained multiple search warrants in connection with the case. Officials searched 10 electronic devices and collected “buccal swabs and photographs of marks” from Ibarra, as well as location data and social media information from Snapchat, TikTok and Instagram.
