“Brian Laundrie argued in Wyoming restaurant hours before Gabby Petito vanished: eyewitnesses“ August 27th, just hours before van was seen on side of backroad parked, not in parking space and about 200 yds from where GB’s body was later located. Argument w/BL in restaurant was w/manager, hostess, waitress (each female) - GP apologized profusely for BL’s behavior. He left and returned inside restaurant multiple times according to witness.

Brian Laundrie acted 'aggressive' before Gabby Petito's death: witness

Angelo said she was at the Tex-Mex eatery around 1 p.m. on Aug. 27 when they saw Petito’s agitated boyfriend, Brian Laundrie, “aggressively” arguing with the restaurant staff.

Angelo said she believed the argument was over the couple’s bill and said Laundrie stormed out and returned four times — while Petito later came into the restaurant and apologized for her beau’s behavior.

About 4 1/2 hours later, Angelo said she and her boyfriend, Matthew England, passed the couple’s white 2012 Ford Transit van just north of town.

'They Always Had Some Drama': Friends Reflect on Romance Between Gabby Petito and Brian Laundrie

On the surface, Gabby Petito and Brian Laundrie seemed as perfectly-matched as any two people could be. But friends who spoke with PEOPLE say there was often tension between the couple, who'd dated since high school.

"One minute, they'd be all over each other, the next minute, he'd be like, 'We're fighting,'" says Laundrie's friend, Ben Matula, describing their relationship when they were teenagers in Long Island, New York. "They always had some drama."

Matula, who spoke to PEOPLE exclusively for this week's issue, adds: "There was always something below the surface where things weren't 100% wonderful."

Gabby Petito's dad mocked Brian Laundrie with nickname
Joseph Petito revealed that he’d refer to Brian as “Brianne,” according an episode of “Dr. Phil” that aired Monday.

“I’ve never actually liked any of Gabby’s boyfriends. I’ve never actually called any of them by their real name, ever,” said the dad, who is originally from Long Island.
 
The question is: did Brian’s parents help him get away?

“If they knew what happened, and they intended to protect their son from detection in some way whether they’re helping him escape or hiding him, then yes they can be arrested an accessory after the fact,” justice studies professor Pamella Seay said.

Seay said when it comes to possible murder, there is no parent-child privilege in court. While the Laundries have the right to remain silent, they do not have the right to hide their son.

“You can’t run away, you can’t hide, that’s what has occurred here is that Brian Laundrie has totally disappeared,” Seay said. “If these parents have protected their son inappropriately, they could look at anywhere from 5 to 15 years of prison or probation.”

Gabby Petito's encounter with Moab police to be investigated by city
On Thursday the city released a statement saying that they planned to conduct a formal investigation into how the Moab City Police Department handled an August 12 incident between Petito and Laundrie. While bodycam footage indicated that officers believed Petito was the primary aggressor, a 911 call later released revealed a male caller reported to a dispatcher that "the gentleman was slapping the girl."

The city said that they are unaware of any breach in policy that occurred during officers' interaction with Petito and Laundrie.

Moab City Police Chief Bret Edge told Newsweek that an outside party filed a request with the police department to conduct a formal investigation and the department remains committed to fully address these concerns. An unaffiliated law enforcement agency will conduct the investigation on behalf of the Moab City Police Department.
 
The authorized reward will remain open for two months starting from the receipt of the tip by the investigating law enforcement," according to a statement from the law firm.

"Only one reward is offered and cannot be split," Shakira said, adding the reward is offered to the first person to supply information leading directly to the "exact whereabouts" of Laundrie.
