I assume the 15 years is a total for all the charges, so if he was acquitted of some then the sentence would be lighter.
I suppose its a translation thing, but Lindemann isn't in a position to find anyone guilty -that's the role of the judges/

It's the closing argument.After the fifteen yrs they also ask for preventative detention, so in effect they wish him off the streets, which is no bad thing, if and it's a big if he's found guilty on the four charges.
 
From the articles, were some arguments held in camera?


Lindemann had previously stated in a multi-hour plea why she found the accused guilty of two rapes and two cases of sexual abuse.
it then says.
At the start of the trial, the 47-year-old German was accused of three rapes and two cases of child sexual abuse, which he is said to have committed in Portugal between 2000 and 2017.

My guess would be the young girl (14yr old) at the farmhouse. She was physically and orally abused but not raped on tape IIRC, according to the accounts of HeB and MS.

I vehemently disagree that the role of the defence is to systematically dismantle the character of the witness.

By all means tear the evidence to shreds but do please make the progression into the more enlightened techniques now adopted when grilling a survivor of aggravated rape.

The treatment meted out to HB as she presented her case for justice is no part of the process to achieve that. What a shame that was the best presentation they could muster.

Agree. That treatment has been played into minds & created a perception of the witnesses. Very common play from a defence. Even though he has expressed sympathy for the McVann’s I expect that FF will float the typical McCann lines during the MM trial.

15 years seems awfully low if convicted on all 4 charges. I wouldn't expect more than a year or so for each of the 2 child SA cases, but the viciousness of the two rapes should each warrant at least the (7yr) term he's already serving for DM's rape.

I think the details in this and HaB’s attack are probably the worst
things I’ve ever had the misfortune of reading. Thoughts with all victims
and families.One sick individual and that’s me being polite.

One would have thought so. But graphic evidence of assault on a girl friend's child merited a short sentence.

The messages were considered to be so graphic by Dr Cr, a forensic psychiatrist, that they could not be referred to in court.

They were revealed by Ms L on Wednesday, who told the court that CB allegedly fantasised about kidnapping and raping a 25-year-old mother and her young daughter.

According to Ms L, CB said to the the child victim: “Are you afraid? Good. Because I am going to really hurt you.”

“It is my conviction that the chamber will not seriously interest itself in my opinion because it has already expressed that it is set on an acquittal for the accused,” the prosecutor told the court.

She accused the judge of showing so much “aggression” when interviewing a police witness that after a five-hour interview, he apparently did not know what he was saying and “would have confessed to killing his own grandmother”.

CB’s trial had been expected to finish in December but could not be over in a matter of days, as the judge revealed she could announce her verdict next Tuesday.

I’m my view. The things he wrote & the things that happened to Hazel are too similar to be another coincidence. Knowing that the BKA have that evidence makes it more obvious imo.

CB may have a dirty jacket, a poorly leg, a cold shower & bad cheese sandwich but he isn’t a haggard target of a witch hunt. He’s an extremely dangerous man, his criminal history & now his writings reflect this. The psychiatrist also noted some of CB’s unsettling behaviour whilst in custody.

I think the prosecutor is beginning to lay the foundations for their appeal. I think the plea is groundwork for this. IMO the judge made her mind up well before all of the proceedings had been heard. Knowing some of what the prosecution have, I don’t see them dropping this any time soon. It’ll delay the MM arrest imo

Imagine all the other stuff in the writings that we don't know about yet, only the relevant stuff has been used .

Yes - it’s terrifying. Even large parts of the Skype chat are redacted.

I know nothing about serial offending sexual sadists. But if it happened to be yet another coincidence & it was another serial sexual predator operating in the same area at the same time, I’d say the odds of that happening would be in the hundreds of billions to one.
