I need to refresh myself on the timeline so this could be way off... do you think he realised that no one was finding the parts he left on Gilgo Beach (when the torsos etc were found quickly), and decided to switch to dumping whole bodies there eventually?

I'm wondering if he oscillated between wanting to shock people with finding the remains, vs. realising he could have the thrill of an undiscovered "trophy case" at Gilgo.
My theory is he dumped the bodies to throw off jurisdictions some parts found in Nassau county some found in Suffolk county and I also think he did this to also make it harder to ID the victims. Karen's torso has never been found. To my knowledge only her skull and legs were found.

RECAP: -Fire Island Jane Doe has been linked to the #GilgoBeach investigation -She has been identified as Karen Vergata who was 34 at the time of her disappearance -Missing approx. Feb 14th 1996 & lived in Manhattan and worked as an escort -DNA profile was developed from remains -Family has been notified of the information -No charges at this time

We have noticed that the police photo that was shown at the press conference of the victim has the correct spelling as KAREN VERGATA. I apologize about inconsistent spelling as we are all learning about this news and her name for the first time right now.

My partner has eyes that are incredibly similar. Depending on lighting, mood, etc. her eyes can look blue, green, hazel... They're a mix of all three, really.

MOO

Does he call his eyes hazel?
I do think all the women are petite, and kinda an Italian-Irish look to them but it is NY State so it's common but he does have a type.

It was even worse than paraphrased. I want to touch base, and if you do, too, call. Very thinly veiled as a colleague call.

I really think that if we did not know what we know now, this might have just seemed like "networking." Some people, esp. those with their own businesses are really good about keeping contacts for future clients, referrals, hiring temps, etc. Now the public and anyone who knew RH is looking back and freaking out IMO.

Would like to know how the "ordinary"(still alive) SWs and the victim SWs were sorted out. Opportunity? Or something else? Also, no evidence that he did anything to coworkers, friends, etc.,... right?

SHE :D says 'if I have to click on a form, I say hazel, but when people ask me, I say, "it depends!"'

As someone who's been with her as friend and then partner since we were seventeen, it really does depend. Lighting, mood, what colour shirt she's wearing. All of it affects the perception of what colour they seem.

<modsnip: off topic>

But yeah, to bring this back around, Amber's eyes could possibly broadly be called hazel, but from the available photos, they sometimes look blue, green, or hazel, like my partner's, so it's possible they were just as hard to pin down.

There IS a Springfield in every state! The only town name that IS in every state.

Even in "Simpsons" land.
I think RH's Springfield, is the gun.

I, too, think maybe RH’s Springfield relates to a firearm.

Off topic: Wyoming, my home state, does not have a town named Springfield.

And one website states that only 30-some states do have a Springfield.

Someone posted about this serial killer from Springfield MA, and was called "springfield 9".
I favor this now, rather than the gun.

I've always stated that there is a Springfield in every state, so I stand corrected!
My article indicates 34:

seems NY collects DNA on felony conviction not arrest but this is a secondary source

would like to find the NY law text

Since 2012, any defendant convicted of a misdemeanor or felony must give a DNA sample to be added to the New York State DNA Databank. The defendant will also be required to pay a fee. The court requires the defendant to pay the Databank fee even if the defendant does not need to provide a new DNA sample. See Surcharges and Fees. The police use this database to look for matches to DNA collected from crimes. The DNA Databank is not open to the public.

Is the term LISK meant to directly identify RH (basically anyone who was the perp in the GB4), or does LISK encompass the entirety of the murders on LI, including peaches, cherries, Karen, etc?

I ask because I know there’s debate about whether RH is responsible for just the gb4, a few more, or all of them. Othram wrote that Karen was the earliest known victim of LISK, so I am a little confused.

Or are we all unsure because we don’t know enough about RH and his possible crimes.

I think at this point, LISK is used like the Redhead Murders... Whether it's one offender or several, it's grouping a series of crimes together by location, date, victim appearance and lifestyle, the signatures of the crime and disposal of victims, and so on in a way to try to make sense of it.

RH is definitely A LISK... but the ONLY LISK? We don't know yet.

Thanks. This is definitely confusing at times - and odd knowing so many murders and possibly multiple offenders in that relatively small area.

It's interesting that SCPD and NYSP haven't addressed if Karen Vergata is a victim of Heuermanns yet Othrams posts here about the identification give the impression that she is indeed.

So happy Karen got her name back. We both attended the same school a few years apart (the whole LISK case always felt so personal to me, this detail today making it feel even more so).

I personally use LISK to encompass all of the victims, and use "Gilgo beach 4" to refer to the 4 murders Rex is either charged in or is a suspect in

ITA.

I always take"Never reported missing," to mean, "No agency would accept a missing person report."

It's really sad.

Very good point. SG is a good example of this. Mari had to basically scream, carry on, run back-and-forth between 3 different precincts and get in their faces each time just to get a MP report filed.

Nicole Schmidt faced the same issue with Gabby. She was thanking one particular LE Detective profusely on camera (don't remember who) just for taking the time to speak with her and actually act because no one else was.

Wow

"....this case is by no means open and shut. There will be more prosecutions to follow, and more questions to answer. One of the big ones: Are there more victims? Among the list of other potential LISK victims are Tina Foglia, whose dismembered remains were found in Gilgo Beach in 1986; Judith Ramona Veloz, who went missing from New York City in 1993; and Natasha Jugo, whose car was found abandoned in Gilgo Beach in 2013."

The Long Island serial killer case may finally be solved — but many questions remain
