The title of the article is incorrect I think. In that it says the Vatican supports this ArchBishop.
As I said earlier, I would be very surprised if this didn't go to the Vatican. I don't think the last word has been said as of yet, but I could be wrong.
I haven't paid a lot of attention to the new Pope. In fact, I would have to google his name but I'm not going to right now because I'm being lazy.
This could be, and may very well be appealed to the Pope. As I said I don't know this Pope but the last one was a merciful one and kind. He wouldn't have allowed this to happen.
(O/T but I'm not catholic so I don't follow as closely the Popes)
