That hole she was allegedly dropped through is actually very small, only slightly wider than a person. It is amazing one could find this in the dark unless you had been there many times before. Who would visit this site enough even as a local to be so familiar with this site they could find this hole at night?

I'm guessing someone who lived in the area as a child and explored the countryside regularly.

I see it differently. I think the body was very well hidden and if not for the 2 visitors near the one entrance noticing the smell, she might not have been found for a long time. I'm on the fence regarding symbolic significance of the location. I don't think we'll know that until a suspect is identified.

One thing I'm wondering about is that Jean Hanlon received a lot of attention on June 10 this year. Could her murderer have committed another murder to get some attention? Dennis Radar was silent for years, but renewed media attention caused him to murder again. Joran van der Sloot murdered on the 5 year anniversary of his first murder.
Yes, I am watching closely for any connection to Hanlon case too.

Does anyone with local knowledge know how accessible the tunnels are and if tourists tour any parts of them on a regular basis during the main season? Or are the tunnels in this area just known/used by locals?

What seems strange to me is that the body was found relatively quickly (vs what we see in other missing/murder cases) so I wonder if not much effort was made to truly hide the body? The perp/s could have made sure that the body was buried in a remote location or perhaps in a very remote corner of the caves but so far as what we have learned from MSM none of this was what was found.
IMO the perp(s) wanted to get rid of the body ASAP. They probably planned to dump it into the bunker from the start. Either they didn't expect it to be found or they don't care, as long as there's nothing leading back to them. They aren't necessarily smart.

The hole was reportedly covered with a wooden pallet, so the task was to find the pallet. The perps drove their car through there. I wonder how close to the hole they got. Maybe the hole is in the middle of a path.

it Could just easily be one perpetrator.... March her there at knifepoint

Manipulating a dead body in that small space would be difficult

How did the perpetrator know for sure she would fit in? What would he have done if she had got wedged/stuck? A dead body half in half out...

What s gamble he took

If she was just dropped through that hole then it could easily be one person. Carrying a body through the main entrance to the point where she was found would (I think) be a 2 person job.

It just reinforces that the person who did this knew an awful lot about this hole. How big, where to find it at night, how to get his car up there, that it dropped into the back of the cave. And I don't mean they went there 1 time, they must live there or have lived there before.

I have doubts too. One piece of information I haven’t been able to find on Jean. Where did she live in Crete? I know her body was found in Heraklion but did she actually live there or another part of Crete?
I am going to reach out to the family this weekend to see if they would be willing to join the new thread that was kindly set up today. They have so much information that hopefully they can add it to the thread for people to take a look at and digest for additional ideas. I believe one of the family issues was that documents pertaining to their case were not translated to english and this was a big stumbling block to their understanding things that had occurred. Will update anything I hear back on the Jean thread.

CNN update on the case:
Suzanne Eaton: Death of American scientist who went missing on Greek island investigated as homicide - CNN
Quote from report:
"While Eaton's employer acknowledged in an earlier statement that the "most likely" scenario was that she had gone for a run, it added: "There are many observations that challenge such a theory, including the heat of the day suggesting that a swim would have been more attractive."

This is the first I've heard of a possible swim option? Has anyone else seen this idea in MSM?

Not being sarcastic - it’s been mentioned since day 1

Yeah, I've felt this way as well for a day or two now. As long as it doesn't lead back to them and they weren't caught at the site dumping it, that was probably the concern. They aren't necessarily smart, no. JMO.

While the initial search for Dr Eaton was going on, people were asking questions and making hypotheses on Facebook and two of the things that her relatives felt the need to clarify were that 1. Dr Eaton preferred not to have her cellphone with her when out running and 2. She was not particularly fond of swimming and for this reason she hadnt even taken her swimming suit with her on her trip to Crete. Of course she may have gone and bought one, but...

question: how long does DNA testing results take to come back give or take?
It depends on the backlog in the lab.

If the sample requires lots of preparation that can take a few hours (like sorting through hairs to find one with a root attached).

The actual isolation of DNA and analysis takes only a few hours as does the database searches.

We build machines that can do the whole thing in 90 minutes but that is state of the art and may not be available in Crete (probably is in Athens).

The turn-around time usually has more to do with the labs backlog than the actual analysis of relative straight forward samples.

That depends on too many factors. I think the fastest is a day or two, but it depends on how backed up labs are, the nearest lab. I would assume that this is a priority, so if there is a good DNA sample, a result should be available already.

Thank you and curiousobserver. I wouldn’t be surprised if DNA samples were expedited in this case with the intense media attention this case has received.
