Despite these contacts, Marie-Pierre's family and friends only have access to bits of information. "Last Thursday, the Quai d'Orsay simply explained to us the investigation procedures in Greece. We know that eight police officers from Sikinos and Santorini were mobilized," the missing woman's niece told Var-Matin. Eager to take matters into their own hands, the relatives were able to count on the Antred association, which posted search notices in French, English and Greek on social networks.
Faced with this lack of feedback on the progress of the investigations, Marie-Pierre Arfel's niece decided last July to file a complaint for "kidnapping and sequestration" with the Draguignan prosecutor's office and the public prosecutor's office in Bordeaux, where the Varoise's family lives. "We have not had a response regarding this complaint, but the delay can be up to three months," the niece said.
In parallel with these legal steps, Marie-Pierre Arfel's family wants to hire a private detective and two lawyers, working in Greece and France respectively.
"We would like to be able to bring her back"
The counsel present on site will be able to help relatives repatriate Marie-Pierre Arfel's personal effects. With this, they hope to be able to "identify a piece of jewelry, an item of clothing, a missing accessory (...) that could constitute a clue", indicates Justine Michaux.
Faced with the opacity of the investigations, some of Marie-Pierre's relatives want to obtain as much information as possible to find the tourist. Laurie Delmas, a friend of the Varoise, is particularly trying to find a couple from Montpellier who may have crossed paths with the hiker a few days before her disappearance. "She had told them about the route she was planning to take in Greece, but we don't know anything more", she indicates.
