DH went to Rite Aid to pick up a prescription today and make a quick stop at Nino Salvaggio's for a few groceries. As of April 28, everyone in Oakland County (Michigan) must wear a mask inside public spaces. DH wears mask and gloves, but anyone who entered Salvaggio's today without face covering was handed a mask at the entrance.

On recent trips to Meijer and Salvaggio, we have not found I Can't Believe It's Not Butter. It wasn't urgent until today, but Nino's was completely out of all varieties of ICBINB, so DH got Smart Balance. Both Meijer and Salvaggio have been low on pasta, but DH got a couple of packages. Asparagus, bread, fresh rosemary and thyme, and a lovely bunch of tulips was all we needed this trip.

We're down to the last two rolls of the awful Angel Soft TP and are eager to get back to Charmin :D

Huge flocks Chickens being depopulated, pork as well beef coming up soon. :( POTUS forcing slaughter houses to produce??!!
Try local producers, eggs are pretty reasonable, going to check turkey will keep you posted
Dairy having trouble because the demand not there ( schools and restaurants closed). Many states it illegal to sell raw milk :( can't give to food banks either....
Hope you are well and safe MOO

If anyone is looking for bleach, Rural King has it for 1.29 a gallon.

Also did a curb pick up at Tractor Supply. Stock tanks and planters for veggies. Went smoothly. Ordered and paid online. Picked up 2 hours later. They loaded us up and we were on our way with no physical contact.

Lots of meat at the store here in Montana, Super One. I bought steaks, ground beef. Noticed that there wasn't much rice, dried beans. Everything was noticeably cleaner. Probably because they close the store early.

Thought about buying some Corona beer, decided on Lieninkugel instead.

Friday’s report from Mass/stop and shop.

First attempt 11 am. Parking lot was too busy DH didn’t even bother to go in.
Second attempt 5pm - paper towels and tp were available. Meat-no chicken breasts, no ground beef.

family member in another part of the state reports no meat at Shaw’s or S&S ( an over abundance of eggs there though)

We’ve been getting some nice yummy oranges the past two weeks . Really Juicy and sweet :)

Went to a different Publix very early yesterday morning (early as in opening time) only a handful of people there shopping which was not bad at all.

It seems like pancake/hotcake mix is another item being hoarded (no idea why; and it's primarily the Bisquick brand too; I had to settle for Krusteaz which is not bad). The paper goods aisle was wiped out clean again, no toilet paper or paper towels. So I quite do not get why TP is disappearing the way it is. Meat was well stocked so I picked up a package of chicken cutlets for us.

On the positive side I did see a flock of ducks in the parking lot, each one sitting on the hood of a car of its choosing. Quite an amusing sight.

So along with the chicken tonight we're doing Lyonnaise potatoes, one of my favorites. Very simple to make if you already have potatoes and onions. In place of butter we use olive oil.

SWFL Food Report:
I went to do some grocery shopping and pulled into the super Target. It was too crazy so I drove off. I went there because I was going to pick up a rug. The old rug beside my bed has just about disintegrated. I worry I’ll slip at night on the laminate floors. Amazon it is, I guess.

Instead, I went to a Publix nearby, not my usual one. It seemed less busy. I was almost done before I realized there were directional arrows. Oops. Lots of mask wearers but few glove wearers.

There was meat but it was not stuffed. The fresh meat counter was closed. It was all packaged up. I got ground beef and ground turkey. I noticed there was very little sausage (like Jimmy Dean) and very little bacon. I didn’t even look at the chicken. The frozen fish was not very full but the fresh seafood counter was open.

I didn’t see any disinfectant wipes or TP. They did have paper towels tho. Produce was fresh, deli wasn’t very busy nor the bakery and the hot food was sparse. The dairy section was good but not stuffed. I got everything I wanted.

I made Rosemary Red Potatoes today in the oven. I didn’t feel like standing over a skillet. I used the entire 5lb bag so I don't have to heat the oven up often.

I washed the potatoes, cubed them and tossed them with olive oil, fresh diced onion, minced garlic and Rosemary. I roasted them at 400 deg for an hour, covered. I took the foil off the top, added pepper and a few pats of butter and put them back in for 10 min to brown. In the mornings I toss them in the skillet to fry them and accompany my eggs.

Sounds delicious, I'll have to try that recipe some time.

I think the Bisquick is going quickly as a bread alternative. Muffin mixes and loaf mixes are all disappearing, being hoarded in case the bread supplies dry up.

Some folks get tummy upsets with COVID, that might account for some of the TP shortages at this point.

Others are 'stocking up' on everything, hoping to avoid the initial price hikes that will be along soon.

We can get flour but no yeast, unless you want to make sourdough, you are up that creek without a paddle.

Do you recall how much the delivery fee for Publix was?

In SE Florida, and probably the rest of the state, Publix partners with a company called Instacart for delivery. Instacart is an independent company, and has both a service fee and markups on each individual item. The tip is not included. Download their Publix app or link through the Publix website. If you do a sample order, you can get an idea of what charges to expect, and delete the sample order before you place it. My most recent experience was awful. My order was delivered to another home in my development and taken - I got nothing for my $150. Terrible customer service; I’m working with my CC company to remove the charges. Some of my neighbors have had better luck, but I won’t take a chance with them again. Before the pandemic, service was OK, but Instacart has hired anybody they can, and some of them are very careless. In some areas, Walmart has grocery delivery, and some stores use Shipt, another delivery service.

When they run out of flour, people get a mix to hold them over. I actually found yeast and a 3 lb bag of King Arthur Gluten Free flour last week at Winn Dixie. I rarely go there but was in the area. I was able to get my favorite veg broth, Minute Made Berry juice bottles too.

I don't understand this. We are wheat farmers and prices are dead low right now. Doesn't jive.

We had roasted red potatoes Friday. I usually do them like yours but had pesto that I made last week and tossed them with pesto when they were still piping hot. DH ate the leftovers for lunch on Saturday.

We love rosemary red potatoes - I used my last ones in an egg scramble.

Hit Lowe's yesterday morning - planted seeds for zucchini, arugula, lettuce and yellow squash and added thyme and sage to my herb garden. Picked up 3 red peppers for some reason - I think the lady helping us put them on my cart and I didn't pay attention - I don't really need that many plants but I will keep them as I don't think returns are possible yet - interesting they closed off the garden entrance and you have to go in the main door - line was backed up and they did have places taped off. very few wearing masks - I stayed away from most people as best I could. Hearing from my friends TP is still limited. I'm doing a pulled pork tonight - will last a few days. I do need Sonny's BBQ sauce though - dread going to Walmart for it but it's 1.50 less per jar than publix.
