Charge dropped against Myrtle Beach area man in Heather Elvis-related case

Charges have been dropped against a Myrtle Beach area man in a case related to the Heather Elvis investigation.

Garrett Ryan Starnes, 26, of Flintlake Court, had a charge of obstructing justice dismissed on April 10, according court records obtained by MyHorryNews.com.

Starnes was charged in late January after Horry County police said in an arrest warrant that his actions interfered with the Heather Elvis investigation.

A vigil was held Friday, and the community hopes to make the landing a place they can keep coming back to pay homage.

The transformation of the landing has helped the community celebrate the young girl's life. New gardens, posters and seating areas have been added to the atmosphere, all of which were donated.

Members of the community said they plan to hold a vigil on the 18th of every month, as a way for them to bring peace to this landing … but also because Heather Elvis - and dozens of others in our county - are still missing.

Community designates site to remember Heather Elvis

As of April 17, Heather Elvis has been reported missing four months. An aggressive investigation was launched to find the 20-year-old, which landed a local couple behind bars, accused of kidnapping and murdering her.

She still has not been found, but the community is still remembering her, gathering in her honor.

Peachtree Landing is where investigators believe Heather Elvis was murdered, but community members visit the site to recreate the area as a place to gather, remember and celebrate her life.

WMBF anchor asks for jury trial in trespassing report filed by Tammy Moorer's family

A local television news anchor who was scheduled to appear in magistrate’s court Tuesday for a hearing on trespass charges has asked for a jury trial.

No date has been set for the jury trial.

WMBF morning news anchor Michael Maely was charged in March for the incident that a police report said took place in February.
 
DNR officers locate body in Congaree River

Department of Natural Resources search crews recovered a body while looking for a man who jumped from a bridge in downtown Columbia two weeks ago.
Two officers searching the river found the body around 1 p.m. near the Richland/Calhoun County line, a DNR spokesperson said.

Officials have not yet been able to positively identify the body or connect the discovery with the jumper. The body has been turned over to the Richland County Coroner's Office for identification.

Crews are still searching the Broad River for a man who reportedly jumped into the water off of Interstate 20 on Tuesday. DNR divers have been in the water for two days but haven't found anything.

Horry magistrate moves to dismiss newspaper's request for search warrants in Heather Elvis case

An Horry County magistrate has filed a motion to dismiss a newspaper’s appeal seeking access to search warrants executed in the Heather Elvis case, according to recently filed court documents.

Aaron Butler, associate chief magistrate for Horry County, filed the motion in Horry County Circuit Court on April 29.
 
Tammy Moorer relative reports gunshots fired at her vehicle in Little River area

A cousin of a woman charged in connection with the disappearance of Heather Elvis filed a police report Sunday evening saying someone shot at her vehicle in the Little River area.

Whitney Plusnick filed the report Sunday evening with the Horry County Police Department.

There were no injuries as a result of the shooting. No charges had been filed as of this posting and there are no suspects.

Plusnick identified herself in a telephone interview Monday as a second cousin of Tammy Moorer.
 
Tammy Moorer bond reconsideration in Heather Elvis case to be heard May 23

Tammy Moorer, charged in connection with the disappearance of 20-year-old Heather Elvis, is scheduled to reappear in an Horry County courtroom on May 23, according to attorneys.

The exact time of the hearing hasn’t been announced, but Jimmy Richardson, solicitor for the 15th Judicial Circuit, confirmed that’s the date Moorer’s request for bond reconsideration will be heard.

Judge to reconsider bond for Heather Elvis murder suspect

A Circuit Court judge will reconsider bond for one suspect accused of murdering and kidnapping 20-year-old Heather Elvis.

Horry County Solicitor Jimmy Richardson said a second bond hearing for Tammy Moorer will be held the morning of May 23.

Tammy Moorer, 42, and her husband Sidney Moorer,38, are both charged with murder, kidnapping, obstruction of justice and two counts of indecent exposure related to Elvis. A second bond hearing has not been requested by attorneys for Sidney Moorer.

Tammy Moorer moved back to J. Reuben Long Detention Center in March

A woman charged in connection with the disappearance of Heather Elvis has been moved back to J. Reuben Long Detention Center, according to the Horry County Sheriff's Office.

Tammy Moorer, 42, has been back at the county jail since her March 17 bond hearing, said Sgt. Jeff Benton, spokesman for the sheriff's office.
 
Tammy Moorer could get out of jail today on bond


HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – Friday morning, one of the suspects accused of murdering 20-year-old Heather Elvis could get out of jail until trial.

The defense team for Tammy Moorer is expected to ask the judge to reconsider bond for Tammy, after bond was previously denied bond for her and her husband, Sidney back in March.

Tammy and Sidney Moorer appeared in Horry County Court in mid-March for the original bond hearing.

Moorer, 42, of Socastee, is scheduled to appear for a bond reconsideration this morning in the Heather Elvis case. The hearing is scheduled to begin around 9 a.m. and Circuit Court Judge Steven John is presiding.
