Defense says Tammy Moorer is pregnant, judge rules bond must remain denied

McCollum argued that his client should be granted bond because of not only her pregnancy, but also because of her age during pregnancy and the stress of incarceration.

But senior assistant solicitor Donna Elder questioned whether Moorer is really pregnant, saying she refused medical attention after her second pregnancy test.

In the end, Circuit Court Judge Steven John ruled that the court for now considers Moorer pregnant, but that evidence presented at her bond reconsideration was not enough for her to be released. He did leave the door open for the defense to request another hearing in the future.

Bond was denied for Tammy Moorer on Friday morning, in an Horry County courtroom

During the hearing, it was revealed Moorer is pregnant, according to a defense attorney. Greg McCollum is defending Moorer.

Tammy Moorer is accused of murdering 20-year-old Heather Elvis.

After Moorer entered into the courtroom, her attorney stood to address the judge, and said there have been developments regarding the defendant.

The attorney started by saying Moorer's father passed away while she was in jail, because he was not in good health and the extra stress of having his daughter and son-in-law incarcerated, accused of murder.

Moorer relatives struggling to cope with harassment during Heather Elvis case

The teenage son of the couple charged with murdering Heather Elvis says he and his younger siblings have lived in fear for months because of constant threats to their family.

They are afraid to leave their home and they don’t understand why someone would want to harm them.

“There have been men with rifles standing across the road looking up here,” said 15-year-old Christian Moorer. “It’s hard to just live our lives knowing somebody out there is threatening to kill you.”

Family of Tammy and Sidney Moorer speak about struggles since couple’s arrest in connection with Heather Elvis’ disappearance

SOCASTEE — Family of the couple facing charges in the disappearance of 20-year-old Heather Elvis say the pair are good parents who were working to improve their relationship and are innocent

You can ask anybody, Tammy is a good mother,” she said. “Tammy would not have done something like this to put her kids in jeopardy.”

Caison said she hopes for a fair trial if the charges aren’t dropped.

“I promise you one thing, whatever happened to that girl it did not happen here,” she said. “God help him [Terry Elvis] find his daughter because my family did not have anything to do with it,” she said. “I hope they find her and I hope she comes home.”

“Tammy and Sidney decided to put their life back together,” she said. “They went on vacation for three weeks and when they came back this thing started against them. They were over it ... they had forgiven each other and decided to put things aside and that’s why Tammy was trying to get pregnant.”

Tammy Moorer used the pregnancy as a basis for her second request for bond, which was made in May, but bond was again denied. Her attorney had requested that bond be reconsidered citing pregnancy, a prior miscarriage and concern that the stress of being jailed could jeopardize her current pregnancy.
