Exactly. Anyone who has ever driven that road understands how difficult it would be to locate anyone there. And we are talking about an area from Haiku to Nahiku, maybe even larger. I am thinking that the perpetrator deliberately scattered evidence far and wide to throw searchers off the trail. However, moving 160 of dead weight is not easy, assuming the worst circumstances. A perpetrator would need to make use of gravity; for example, throw her off a cliff, bury her close to wherever she met her fate, or take her out on a boat ala Scott Peterson. It will take a tremendous amount of luck and perhaps the expertise of search/cadaver dogs to find her.
In looking at the map, the most likely spots to use if using gravity and going for ocean entry, would be between Hahaha Bay, near the Keanae Arboretum and Nau'ailua Bay, around Kaumahina State Wayside. But that's back down where the disabled truck was and the dog was found. But I've hiked all over up and down that road, and there are so many really, really deep ravines that are not too far off the road, a side road, or a turn out. I mean like you cannot see the bottom ravines.

This all just seems so pre-meditated to me. I've been thinking for some time that all the road to Hana stuff is a red herring. Carly might be somewhere close to her house, or the perps house.

Do we know if she went home after she left her sister's? Did she have her dog with her at her sister's? Did she have to go home to pick him up? Were the clothes found the same she was wearing that night when she left her sister's?

Time Line according to Police (taken from press conference by MPD video shown in News Report by Maui News.

Q. “This information, although it is not officially coming from you [Sec. MPD], but knowing some of the evidence collected, such as packing tape, teeth, blood on the clothing, Steven’s ????? (Can’t understand what is said - Start Mark time 1:42) on the clothing that has been identified as belong to Scott what would it take for the status to change of Missing Person.”

BBM

Just listened to the press conference and this is how I heard it:

Q: And speaking to the evidence collection, at least what we've been told and, again, this is not coming officially from you guys so, if this is a rumor, this would be your opportunity to tell us otherwise. Some of the evidence collected included packing tape, teeth, blood on the clothing, even maggots in some of the clothing that was discovered that has been identified as belonging to Scott. What would it take for evidence to change status from, again, missing person to suspecting foul play?

I haven't seen any mention of teeth or blood or maggots anywhere else other than this press conference. And, in his answer, the MPD captain didn't dismiss any of it as a rumor, even though the reporter told him it was his chance to say nothing like that was found.

Mauijen did you hear the question asked last night at the KCA meeting about the truck? What I took from that discussion was that SC had borrowed the truck that Sunday. The owner of the truck contacted MPD to have them come take it for evidence processing and still haven't heard back from the police. Beyond frustrating.

Just double checking. Had MPD taken the truck for processing and the owner hasn't heard about results or has the owner not heard back from MPD about his offer to turn in his truck? TIA.

DNA from teeth? I believe that is possible.

Why would maggots be on fabric unless there was some sort of flesh?

BBM: Exactly. That's what I was thinking. Flesh or heavy body fluids would be the only things I could think of that would attract flies and/or maggots.

Thank you. I just could not hear what the reporter said.

I would have never guessed "maggots".

Maggots are fly larva and there are different kinds according to wiki. Larva feed on dead organic material, not necessary just flesh. I also noticed that MPD did not dismiss this as rumor nor did they confirm it. This list of evidence is very worrisome.

Just a few quick things that were asked a couple of pages back. My husband rides his bikes (mountain, dirt, road) all the time from our place in Haiku to Jaws. It's even walkable. Our perp could've easily walked home from Jaws given that they were not on anyone's time. In other words, seeing someone walk in Haiku is totally the norm and they'd even get a short toot of the car horn to say hello.

My husband was out & about at Jaws on last Monday, trying out the new starter on his dirt bike that he installed on Sunday. There were a half dozen burned out cars. He's already given info that he doesn't recall seeing the Scott truck but then again he wasn't looking for it. He was joyriding and folks are always pulled off the main path doing who knows what in their trucks. A lot of tourists hear about Jaws and don't realize it's a steep climb down a cliff face or a jetski ride in. There is no "beach" so to speak so it's not much of a touristy area. Plus when Jaws isn't firing, the break is a little hard to spot.

I personally think Charli was subdued near where her clothes were found, the dog became upset and the dog was dropped off out of the way. I think the perp drove Charli's car back to Haiku, left it at Jaws and walked home. I don't remember reading about it but I remember talking to my husband on the phone last Monday or Tuesday and hearing a ton of chopper noise.

Btw, I'm new to Haiku but my husband has lived here 20-something years. In recent weeks I've become very familiar with the place. The town is small - great community. And while it's easy to jump on the exbf because of his statements, don't look too deep into that one interview.

Also, Hana Hwy is a tough drive unless you're a local and you know the curves.

The entire community wants Charli home!

Welcome and Thank you so much for adding your thoughts! All of the locals posting here have been a huge help. I've been following all news media & Facebook posts about Charli from the start but it's such an incomplete picture. I'm far away but my heart has been with Charli & her family. They've been amazing in their search efforts & in keeping everyone as informed as possible!

Are most of you thinking this is a solo act? I wonder.

Is the area of burned cars so remote that no one would see/smell fire or smoke to better pinpoint when Carly's car appeared there? Don't tires take a long time to burn?
I used to have theories, but now it seems I only have endless questions.

This is very disturbing!

Unforgivable and disgusting – that's how Charli Scott's family members are describing the missing woman's landlord after claims he removed personal items from her home. The five-month pregnant woman has been missing for 11 days now, but family members believe the landlord took her belongings within hours of her disappearance.

"Buzzards pick carrion and he knows she's not here to defend herself," Charli Scott's mother, Kimberlyn, said.

27-year-old Charli went missing on Sunday, February 9th. Five days later, family members say when they arrived at her rental with police who needed to collect DNA evidence – they realized someone had stolen Charli's TV, entertainment center, stove and baby toys for her unborn son.

"He removed baby toys that her sister got her from The Hui. The only reason I can assume he wanted them is because he thought they were valuable, they're handmade. Honestly, those were the items that upset me the most, the baby things," Kim explained.

According to Kim, the landlord demanded hundreds of dollars from the family in exchange for her daughter's items.

Hawaii News Now spoke with the landlord, who did not want to be on-camera, he claims Charli owed rent so he took her stuff to "protect it".

Kim says they called the police, but the patrol officer who responded wasn't very helpful.

"The first officer I spoke to said to me that in order for us to do anything about her property, we have to prove that she owned it. Once we proved that she owns it we have to deal with a civil suit and in order to do that I have to be next of kin, or listed as next of kin, and in order to do that I have to prove that she's dead," Kim explained.

The fires down at Jaws are not uncommon. Sometimes they're just bonfires. The Jaws area is an old pineapple field. Wild fruit continues to grow and so the grasses are head high and over. There are established paths through the fields that are decades old and the ride in is about 10 mins on a dirt bike or car. Walking in is about 45 mins from the highway. The Jaws/Peahi area is huge!

If the landlord had any decency, he would've let them in. But he's completely within his rights to keep her family out of her residence. The law is the law and they'll need a temporary court order to access her belongings.

Look at it from a landlord's POV. That's his property! It might be a little different if mom or sister had a copy of the house key (unless he changed it) but entering through a window is drastic and definitely trespassing. What if Charli showed up and was estranged from her family? He would be out of line for allowing access.

I've had rental agreements that ask for an emergency contact in which I've listed my parents. My husband rents out our ohana unit with NO rental agreement which drives me mad but it's the island way.

Is a landlord allowed to enter a tenant's rental and take what he wants when she has been missing 11 days?
And don't you have to give the tenant notice before you enter??

I realize the landlord is within his rights to deny the family entrance into the house, but this girl is missing, there is potential evidence inside her home and the police are not able to get in there to collect it (her DNA) to use in their investigation. The laws need to change in this case. Basically, the family's hands are tied and this is horrible. I'm sorry, but I just can't see the landlord's POV. Maybe if he hadn't taken her things, but that was crossing the line and once he did that, he loses all credibility in this situation.

Also, I just wanted to pop in here and let you guys know that I'm not sure I'll be back on here much. Emotionally, this case is just way too close to home and it's too upsetting for me. I'm not sleeping well, I'm on edge, and I think because I personally know Charli and consider her a friend, I am having a hard time looking at this objectively. I'm not sure it's healthy for me to be involved in this type of conversation. I'm not sure if that makes sense, but I realized that the more time I spend on here and going over and over the case, the more upset I become. I'm still happy to answer any specific local questions that the other locals can't help you with. Feel free to shoot me a PM anytime! And I may stop in every few days or if I come across anything specific to report. But I probably won't be here on a daily basis. I'm not even sure it's appropriate to post this, but oh well! :-)

I can tell you that everyone who knows Charli is taking this very hard. I was at the Hui for several hours yesterday and the staff there is a mess. They have had Grief Counselors coming in regularly to work with the staff and plan to continue to have them there. We all just want answers. And now with this landlord situation, and the family is also trying to figure out a way to keep Charli's dogs (they also rent and are having some difficulty with their own landlords, they finally got approval to keep the dogs, but have a very short deadline to get a large kennel built by SATURDAY, and don't have the supplies or manpower to get that done). All of these extra issues are not where family / friends focus needs to be right now.

So anyway, I'm sure none of this is really relevant to this forum, but there you have it. Thank you all for being so welcoming to me, a complete newbie!

Taking personal property... No!
Entering without notice... absolutely, if the situation demands such attention.

The landlord can not withhold property to it's rightful owner without a judgement, basically due process must be served. He'll have to return her property. But he also has the right to sell it if she doesn't pay rent. Either way, both parties will have to go to court.

Keep in mind, if you or I were to take a hiatus from life and go off the grid for a few days without telling the family, does your next-of-kin have the right to go into your apartment and start packing you up?
