HGO, a paywall is the same as buying the paper at a newsstand. Maui Now and Maui News have no obligation to the public to offer free online content. If this were 1984 (Olympic year *wink wink*) and you missed the news broadcast then you'd go pick up a newspaper. That paper isn't free, neither is online content. ;)

Should I go away now? Ok I will. :p
please don't go away, Nikki. Please.
I hope I didn't seem to be taxing you on the Sat night CK notes. I was only trying to make sense of the timeline, like did it mean he didn't go out again after he talked to Grandfather and that was not him going to Hana. There is indeed a lot of information in the case and too much for busy people to remember it all. I love it that you took notes and you give us news from the trial when you are able to go.

I am sorry to hear the attention is fading, but it is a very long trial. I'm sure there is more interest from people who simply cannot go because they work or they live on other islands or anywhere else. There are people around the world who care.

Pua, ;) I'm not sensitive, my feelings don't bruise that easily. I posted my notes for breakdown so I appreciate the questions. I'm taking a break because I recognize it's overwhelming for me. That or PMS.

As an aside, I certainly don't mean to say Charli has disappeared from anyone's heart or minds. Quite the opposite, in talking to people in passing, they're surprised the trial is still going on! It seemed like such an open and shut case.

Guy gets ex girlfriend pregnant, has new girlfriend. Takes ex out for a drive, only one comes back.

Good, Nikki, no bruised feelings.
Yes, seen that way it sounds very simple.
I personally don't have that acceptance of "just" killing a mother to be, a baby in utero, stabbing a fetus, and all the rest. That set of facts you wrote should not end in heinous murder. There have been and always will be guys who father children they do not want and can't raise and don't. In most cases, life goes on, including when the guy gets a new girlfriend.

it scares me about people, when I read these comments to the articles and Favebooks, that so many assume murder was likely and not a shocking outcome. Charli and Charli's family and friends knew the situation and did not expect him to murder her. If they had, she would have never gone anywhere alone.

I wonder if if we watch so many movies and shows about calculated murder that we forget it's not real life behavior except for the very few and extremely damaged among us. By "we" I mean the collective we, not the we posting to the forum, as I don't think anyone here sees murder as the normal way to behave when life doesn't go as we want it.

We have definitely become desensitized to violent crime. My sister is a horror movie fanatic and every now and again she drags me to some gory haunting. I'm amazed at how sick and twisted an R rating goes to entertain and scare people. I mean the scripts were written by some pretty effed up people. Hitchcock and Serling would have no place in today's movie industry.

Anyway, of course the family wishes they could've seen this coming. I wish Charli spent the night at Brooke's! What troubles me like someone posted before, I wonder if total elimination was SC's ultimate goal? Had Charli given birth would he have tried to hurt her and the baby?

In searching for PMS remedies, I came across a Reddit forum for "Child Free" adults. These men and women call pregnancies and unborn babies "parasites" and "unwanted crotch fruit". They speak openly about being cursed with fertility and the blessings of abortion.

There's nothing wrong with choosing to be childless. For the most part I read that the sexually active adults in the Child Free forum on Reddit did their part to prevent pregnancy. I don't know SC's mating habits, and whether his horse was saddled but certainly the irresponsible one is him! His prerequisite of abortion as a solution to unplanned pregnancy is immature and chauvinistic.

I have chosen to be "childless" but I'm on the shot AND use condoms to prevent it.

Agree, and bad as that is, his fallback course of murder as a solution to unplanned pregnancy is ____ (no words). It's a long decline in humanity from denigrating offspring to stabbing one repeatedly with a knife. At least I hope it is.
I remember not wanting a baby, at least not at that time, right up to the point where I found myself having one. Then the maternal instinct kicked in out of nowhere. It's amazing how it goes from thinking it would be hell to have one of those torture machines to feeling like the world as I know it would end if anything happened to my child.

I have this nagging feeling that SC will cop a plea.

Having a rep from ATT and Verizon testify will be like a "can you hear me now" commercial. How can the two companies contradict each other when they run different networks?

There are multiple phones to be tracked here, so both AT&T and Verizon could be carriers. Say he had one service and she had another and also Kurt Kaiser if they tracked his in SC's truck.

Regarding my comment about the gap between disparagement and stabbing, I would never deny there is a continuum. I'm just noting that while many people spout off on the internet, very few cross the line between thoughts and speech into violent murderous action. And that line matters. On one side of the line, Charli and Joshua get to live their lives; on the other side they do not. On one side is constitutionally protected free speech; on the other side SC faces life in prison.

There are certain topics I don't debate on the Internet: abortion laws, religion, guns among them. So I will stay out of that. This was not an abortion, which aims to remove the fetus without harming the mother. It was a homicide/feticide. There's no question it was morally and legally horrendously wrong. Everyone here is entitled to their own opinion of whether Joshua was sentient enough to experience pain and death, at least in areas where science has not given us definite answers. If he was not yet viable outside the womb, he was getting close.

I do have a family member who was born at 5 1/2 months and two pounds weight who survived and is now a preteen. Of course he only survived with the best medical care Hawaii could offer being given him throughout his birth and two months in NICU. But he was a sentient human at that stage, mainly had underdeveloped lungs.

I know Kim believes Joshua was able to feel the pain, because she has said so in open letters to Steven.

I'm not sure how we meandered into this territory, but I may have started it when I started talking about how commenters take it for granted that a guy with a new girlfriend who doesn't want a kid would stab his ex and unborn son as a way of solving the dilemma for himself.

I personally need to maintain my sense that Steven's "solution" is an aberration from social norms. Thus my need for some evidence/proof that he was psychologically tweaked, which is different from him not understanding intellectually the difference between right and wrong. He was not psychotic or delusional or insane or diminished capacity, no sign of any of that. But he had to be bent. I am not convinced that he feels remorse about what he did; time will tell I guess, but so far he has let the circus play on for two and a half years and no sign of any concern other than protecting himself.

Wasn't there supposed to be a hearing today??

There's an editorial/advertisement on Maui News about Lila and the hard work she's put into the trial so far. I don't know how to link it. I read their articles from the app and a limited paid subscription.

Just read today's Maui News article. Sounds like SC may have torched Scott's vehicle right after midnight, at 12.45 am on 10th of Feb.

She said she checked the garage, main dwelling and other areas of the property, crossing a bridge to reach her parents' bedroom on the 35-acre property.
"I felt like the air was hazy, a really bad smell, bad smoke," she said. "It was toxic."
Carradine, who now lives in Los Angeles, said the property is about a five-minute drive from "Jaws."

In March 2014, with $1,900 still owing, Pechin said he repossessed the vehicle from Capobianco, who drove it to Pechin's house. Pechin said he stored the 4Runner at his residence for "less than a week" before "the police took the vehicle for evidence." vehicle had been locked, except for the broken back window, which had a tarp and brick over it, Pechin said. He said items shown in a photograph of the console, including a piece of rope and red pepper spray canister, weren't his.
noted for myself.

Wailua Wayside Park, where Capobianco said he was picked up by the driver of the Toyota Corolla.
