Medical Examiner: Oregon woman's death was homicide

The Honolulu Medical Examiner found that the cause of death for Oregon visitor Ivanice Harris was injury to the neck.

Dr. William Goodhue Jr. determined the manner of death was homicide, the Department of the Medical Examiner said in an e-mail.

Goodhue also found the presence of marijuana in her system.

The investigation into her death is now being handled by the Naval Criminal Investigative Service.

Thanks for the latest info. I had been watching out for something in the news the last few days. So, her death was caused by an "injury to the neck," huh? So did he strangle her and crush her neck? Or quite possibly snapped it in a fit of rage? The rest of the DNA since his arrest should be in soon as well.

Marine sergeant thrown into brig in homicide investigation

The military has placed a Marine sergeant in the Pearl Harbor Brig while it investigates the death of an Oregon woman in May.

The Marines and city prosecutor’s office said today the military would take over the investigation of Sgt. Nathaniel L. Cosby, 38

Cosby has been administratively transferred to U.S. Marine Corps Forces, Pacific at Camp Smith, according to a joint statement from city Prosector Keith Kaneshiro and Marines at Camp Smith. Cosby is being detained in pretrial confinement at the Joint Brig Miramar - Detachment Pearl Harbor Brig on Ford Island during the criminal investigation.

No charges have been filed.

Um, wasn't there more posts on this page? Seems like there were some other posts on this page that are now gone. Weird.

According to the Bring Ivanice Home fb page, the suspect is going to trial Sept. 27. It sounds like it will be a military trial because I can't find anything in the local MSM or on the Hawaii Judiciary website and he has been in military custody. The fb page is raising money for her sister to attend so I have to assume that the family has the correct information.

Marine charged with murder in Hawaii tourist death

The Marine Corps said Monday Master Sgt. Nathaniel Cosby is charged with murder and other charges, including patronizing a prostitute.

An Article 32 hearing will be held Wednesday. The hearing is the military's equivalent of a preliminary hearing in civilian court, where it will be determined whether Cosby should be court-martialed.

Master Sgt. Nathaniel L. Cosby was charged today with the unpremeditated murder of Ivanice "Ivy" Harris. He also faces charges of murder while engaging in an inherently dangerous act, voluntary manslaughter, obstructing justice, and patronizing a prostitute.

It will be interesting as this first round hearing is just for the court martial. I see they are charging him with voluntary manslaughter for the death of the unborn child.

Since this entire case is federal, I foresee that after the trial is all said and done, the federal prosecutors will be going after and charging Ivy's pimp boyfriend for sex trafficking, especially since the trafficking was (and still is) of young women and was done online.

Skeezy Sleazy or (whatever his name is) will be on their short list soon!

God I hope so. I cannot look at this thread without going stark raving lunatic mad about all of the people involved who just acted like this whole pimp/prostitute thing was some sweet best friend/boyfriend kind of thing. Makes me want to puke. I hope the guy who murdered her gets his due. I hope the guy who pimped her gets his modsnipps cut off.

Such a sad waste of a beautiful girl. I'm afraid her friend will have the same end result if she doesn't get out of that lifestyle. So very sad. SMH

DOJ: Portland pimps indicted, including suspect in Ivy Harris case

A Mann Act violation carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine. A Travel Act violation carries a maximum sentence of five years in prison and a $250,000 fine.

I don't know if Ivy's murder was the start of the investigation, but I'm glad her "boyfriend" won't be getting off scott free.

Thanks for the update, lucky181.

All I can say is "BINGO!" regarding what I had said about her pimp in post #151. And thank goodness the Feds acted so soon within a year of Ivy's death to get that guy off the streets from trafficking women.

Marine convicted in prostitute's death; faces life sentence
A Marine who admitted killing a prostitute in his Waikiki hotel room May 16 was found guilty Thursday of murder while engaging in an inherently dangerous act, a crime punishable by a maximum of life in prison without the possibility of parole
The sentencing portion of the court-martial will begin at 8 a.m. Saturday, with the defense calling character witnesses.

So Cosby put her in a "chokehold" during a fight.

This article here also states that Harris pulled a knife on him. I wonder if the intent was to rob him? Or to defend herself from him due any rough or threatening behavior he had towards her? I guess we'll never know:

Cosby says he acted in self-defense after Harris pulled out a knife that was hidden in her lipstick tube, and got rid of her body to avoid embarrassment to his family and to the Marine Corps.
