Anyone know anything about La Mesa?? I can't find anything online so I'm taking this as a good sign.

I think La Mesa is OK for now too.

Most of this fire is north of the main part of the city, and to the east. La Mesa is somewhat east, but central.

There is also another fire to the southeast, down by the border and to Tecate which is on the border but part of Mexico.

Now a Big Bear fire. that is going to be bad. they have called off all firefighters as the winds are too much. This is differnt than the Lake Arrowhead fire.
They are both out of control

Things getting worse out this way up the hill JBean, much worse!

Oceanside is OK for now.

Thank You! They just went through a horrible experience with a huge wildfire in Southern Utah. They were returning to Oceanside after visiting family in Salt Lake. The fire jumped 1-15 and moved so fast people in their vehicles had to run for it. Several vehicles were lost.

Thanks, BirdieBoo. My boyfriends family is in that area. I want his mom to pack up and head this way. So far, no luck.

Omg, live feed on the below link...you can hear people screaming. They are being denied access to their homes and are trying to get to their kids and animals. They are rushing police lines. The reporter, reporting by phone says it's sheer panic. I feel so bad. I have been in
their shoes.

For all of our animal lovers...the Wild Animal park has evacuated it's employees to the San Diego Zoo. Also, they have more some critically endangered species into a fire resistant hospital center on the property. They are leaving the other animals to roam the 80+ acres. There are several ponds that the animals would seek refuge in, if need be. There is a fire break surrounding the park and key employees have returned to put out spot fires if necessary. The park believes that it is unlikely the fire will burn the park itself because of the type of vegetation in the enclosures and those grounds are heavily irrigated.

Thank God. I started worrying last night about the animals in the park when they said the fire was heading in the San Pasqual direction.

What about Escondido? It looks ok according to the google map of the fires, but wonder if someone actually around there can confirm?

These fires are terrible! Hi Taximom check your pms please honey!

I grew up in the San Fernando Valley and am familiar with the surrounding areas. But I know nothing really of the San Diego area. I just found out about the 250K being evacuated. I have a stepdaughter and her marine husband that live in Oceanside. Do I need to be worried about them?
Normally I would say not to worry..but O'side is due west of Ramona and the fire areas. They are saying it may burn all the way to the coast.
They will have advance notice and should be able to get to Orange County.

One of our posters is from there and she is packed and ready to go.

This is just amazing. I'm saying prayers for everyone affected.

I love Rancho Santa Fe but would never live there because the high fire danger (and of course is way beyond my financial means).

Yes, this is pretty much the same area as the Cedar Fire four years ago. Video on the news show streets of burning homes. Scripps Ranch is also under mandatory evacuation.

Fourteen people are in the hospital, seven in the burn unit, including four firefighters in critical condition. Their firetruck was overcome yesterday and became trapped.

Calikid. Rancho Sante Fe now under mandantory evacuation! Warnings for Solana Beach..........YI*KES!

I am so confused by all the cities and where they are located. What I am hearing on the news makes no sense to me. It really helps to have locals pinpoint this for me. I have to leave for a bit. I will check in when I get back.

Fire authority spokesman just relayed to a reporter that this will be worse than the Cedar fire. That's just beyond horrible.

Oh my. (PD?) I would want to go somewhere for awhile just to get away from the bad air.

But if I were about to lose my home, it must be awful not to have time to pack up and take the things important to you. (photo albums, etc) Pets!!!

Said probably will be the worst fire in San Diego history.

Suzi, Oceanside is the Northwestern corner of San Diego county. Almost at the Orange county border. Next to Camp Pendleton. Oceanside would have an easy access to Orange County, like Jbean said.

ETA - San Diego is a big county.
