Thanks JBean ,again. I haven't heard from my firend in Highland yet today.
I have relatives in Alpine, Temecula, and Lakeside. Trying to find out about them,as well, through other family.
This is just unbelievable. I still think there is much less coverage of this than say a hurricane and to me this is equally as bad,if not worse. Much more wide spread. Its ticking me off. Maybe because I used to live there or still have friends and family there,I'm more obessed, maybe nobody else cares.

I'm alittle frustrated with the National news coverage. They seem to be concentrating on Malibu and only one spot in North County,San Diego. They keep showing the same spots over and over. Maybe they just can't get to the others due to danger?I think this is a much bigger story than the areas they are covering. Maybe not everyone is as interested as me,but I think this is a story that is much like Katrina, and they should bring in local affilates broadcasts, and pretty much cover it non stop. Sorry but the space shuttle is not tops for me right now.

The media tend to be very lazy, hmom. During the LA riots, they kept showing the same block in South Central when half the city was on fire.

I'm like the animal/wildlife reporter here!! Just to keep everyone up to date on the Wild Animal Park. There were some fires on the facility that were able to be put out. They lost an empty (keyword EMPTY) Condor breeding facility was lost. The California Condors are all safe, having been moved. Another building caught fire and was damaged. The best news is that the animals continue to be safe :)

you are right and I can assure you, this is a catastrophe of epic proportions. We have hundreds of thousands of displaced and evacuated people. There are 100's of thousand s just at qualcommstadium parking lot! Not to mention the 1000's of destroyed homes and structures. The fires are not letting up at least until tomorrow or Thursday. It is hot and windy and there are no signs of slowing.

Yes, even being a local it is frustrating that so much of the news is concentrated on the "stars" homes in Malibu. That fire is quite small compared to some of the other fires, (not that it makes it less important, just that the media is hyping the movie stars homes). To put it in perspective--I live on the coast south of LA (the peninsula). Sort of in the middle of the northern fires and the southern fires. There are 18 different active fires burning in So. Cal-all within a 220 mile radius. They are saying that some of the fires (the ones near Valencia) may merge. The air outside is horrible--the smoke smell is so strong, and there is ash drifting in the air. My sons school here on the peninsula is keeping the kids indoors today because of the smoke. Ironically, the peninsula is known for having great air quality because it is above LA, but we are getting all the smoke and ash from the Arrowhead fires. I am grateful that we are safe, but because it is so dry and is already in the 80's here on the coast, that the peninsula could be in danger as well. The brush on the hills is just SO dry. My prayers to those in the direct fire areas.

thank you for the report. Are you in Palos Verdes? Someone was asking about that area.

I called my sister in Virginia last night to tell her that we were safe and still in our home, and she had no idea. The only fire she's heard about is in Malibu.

My son helped some Fallbrook friends yesterday move a garage-full of expensive equipment out of harm's way. They were under mandatory evacuation by last night and most likely lost their home. He said it took 4 hours to drive home afterwards.

Got up this morning, and the sky is orange and smoky. Our driveway and patio are covered with ash, but the winds dropped overnight and it seems quite calm.

A new fire broke out overnight near the Barona Casino, but it seems they are getting it under control.

Yes I am. Probably it was me that you saw earlier? I did post last night. I am going up to the top of the hill later to see what is going on--we can usually see the San Bern mountains at the top of the hill.

I think the problem is that huge brushfires have become so commonplace here in the west that most of the nation treats it like old news. Every year there's some fire that burns out of control, and to everyone else it's like been there, done that, as if we're being blamed for knowing the risks and choosing to live here anyway.

We talked to my SIL last night who lives in Oceanside but works at Camp Pendolton. She said they were evacuating the back side of the camp only for now.I feel so helpless I live in Norcal and want to help.

Valley Center is under mandatory evacuation. The Witch Fire has burned 160,000 acres. And I think I heard the Harris fire has burned 200,000 acres.

No I do not think it was you. Someone had friends in PV , IIRC and they wondred if they would be safe.
Thank you for that update and maybe that person will read your report.

Today is better than yesterday on my end. We had smoke coming into the office so they closed us up. Then the guy who sits next me to says "why close the office, we are going to get smoke at home" WTF??? SHUT UP, I wanna go home.. hehe I told him, "now is NOT the time to make sense".. hehe :p

I don't smell the smoke but I can see it in the distant. Not sure there is another fire that started or if it's the same one, but I can really see the smoke coming from the mountains in front of us. Hopefully it's just left over from yesterday.

Still praying for rain... maybe a little rain dance will help

I knew I should have planned on no rainfall and drought before I moved here.
I think what many do not realize is that many of these places burning have never burned and that is part of the problem.
