Amber DeBevec, the owner of Key West's Finest, told weather.com that Mani was being celebrated for his kind act and that the chickens were delivered out of harm's way.
"Jayesh Mani is the man on a mission," DeBevec said. "The chickens have been delivered to another helpful friend in Key West and are safe."

Thank you to Mani for doing this. Thank you to you for giving me a much needed reminder that their are good people in the world.

Nope....but CNN wanted you to believe it with a headline "FEMA could run out of cash this weekend". I really don't watch any mainstream news anymore...

Inside the article it says this...

The House*passed an emergency relief bill Wednesday*that would provide $7.85 billion in emergency funds -- the vast majority of which to FEMA, with some going to the Small Business Administration.

The Senate is expected to vote on that bill Thursday, tacking on another $7.4 billion in emergency funds for a total of $15.25 billion for FEMA's disaster relief fund.

On top of that, the Senate is voting on another $6.7 billion for funds that were already slated to go to FEMA in a spending bill that keeps the government open for another three months.

Once the bill goes back to the House -- so it can vote on additions made in the Senate -- Congress will have voted on close to $22 billion in funds for disaster relief.

but technically they did they just a deposit !

I'm sure you guys have discussed this upstream (late to this thread)...these cranes in Miami and not being able to get them secured in time is also worrisome. (It's all worrisome, ykwim)

They are claiming they chose to just let them go free as opposed to trying to secure them

to me that is like a thrill that spins around and out and when the set of chairs separates there gonna be a bullet -- made zero sense to me

same thing happened in Sandy

they went up and secured it make no sense in terms of metal fatigue like right the metal is not gonna be like a paperclip that you
keep bending

Thanks, but it's still short on details. The chickens are safe at an undisclosed location in Key West. Which means they are still in the path of the hurricane. So how are they out of harm's way? None of it makes any sense. Even if they are OK, it's still illegal for individuals to round up wild animals like that. Especially when they don't even have appropriate crates for the chickens. I hate to think that people are going to get the message that it's OK to capture wild animals like that.

FWIW they are supposed to spin like that. Otherwise they would catch even more wind and be more prone to toppling. That said they still worry me because they're not designed to withstand hurricane force winds...

CNN posted the article on Thursday after Congress had already passed the first Bill on Wednesday and had the second Bill slated for vote on Thursday.

"MIAMI — As Hurricane Irma threatens to pound Miami with winds of mind-boggling power, a heavyweight hazard looms over the city’s skyline: two dozen enormous construction cranes.

"And because those cranes weren’t designed to withstand a storm of Irma’s ferocity, city officials are telling people who live in the shadows of the giant lifting devices to leave.

Construction sites across Irma’s potential path in Florida are being locked down to remove or secure building materials, tools and debris that could become flying missiles in hurricane winds.

The horizontal arms of the tall tower cranes, however, will remain loose despite the potential danger of collapse. According to city officials, they can’t be tied down or moved.

Many are questioning why the cranes can’t be moved, Miami officials said Tuesday in a tweet. “The answer — it’s a slow process that can take about TWO weeks and there is NOT enough time,” they said. “Consider that the counterbalances on tower cranes weigh about 20,000 to 30,000 pounds.”"

The article linked for me... on the video the man said up to 145 mph was usually the max. I am just hoping for the best.

and we all need to remember that both andrew and charlie at the very last minute changed there minds totally

she could flip over to east any time and come up the center of the state

Noone knew Andrew was gonna be a cat 5 until really late he just blew up suddenly

Charlie was a Tampa landfall and poof he hang

s a right and slams into Punta Gorda

In fact Bob JOrdon the local channel 9 weather guy (charlie) knew that morning that that the model tracks were wrong and he was gonna come right through central FL.

He and the general manager struggled for hours -- it was the first time in history a weather man went on air and said basically that the NHC was wrong and Charlie was going to come up right through central FL

made history

another weatherman that is historic Brian NOrcross Miami / Andrew he stayed on air for like a day and half or something -- there studio got messed up and he went in like a closet or something and kept broadcasting

as it went on he started getting calls and on air he started advising callers like Mary I want you to seek shelter instantlyd there is a huge band than will be over you in two minutes

n order for rapid deepening to occur, several conditions must be in place. Water temperatures must be extremely warm (near or above 30 °C, 86 °F), and water of this temperature must be sufficiently deep such that waves do not churn deeper cooler waters up to the surface.

Wind shear must be low; when wind shear is high, the convection and circulation in the cyclone will be disrupted.

Internal[edit]

Usually, an anticyclone in the upper layers of the troposphere above the storm must be present as well—for extremely low surface pressures to develop, air must be rising very rapidly in the eyewall of the storm, and an upper-level anticyclone helps channel this air away from the cyclone efficiently.[SUP][2][/SUP][SUP][further explanation needed][/SUP]Hot towers have been implicated in tropical cyclone rapid intensification, though diagnostically has seen varied skill across basins.[SUP][3][/SUP]

Pinellas County, half mile from Old Tampa Bay
Evacuation Zone D, Prepared and staying

This will be the first major test for our $16,000 aluminum roof installed 4 years ago!!

Spent all day securing and storing every potential ‘missile’ in yard . . .
Landscaping yard art galore, plants and pots galore, benches, settees, mirrors (for the peacocks!),etc.
Hundreds of items, garage is full and looks like a garden store.
We have several varieties of huge mature bamboo (including black bamboo), so this will be the first significant wind test for our beautiful bamboo. This is the season for new bamboo shoots, so some of those may not survive or thrive.

Godspeed and well wishes, SeesSeas! (((Hugs)))
