I am praying for everyone in it's path.
The country stands behind the good people of the gulf coast. We will help you recover.
I just made a Red Cross donation online.

We are in extreme east-central Alabama, near the GA line, and even here they are saying we can expect 40-50 MPH winds and flash-flooding. Everyone stay safe, please!!

Take care englishleigh!

Just heard on TWC that these windspeeds
are those of an F3 tornado!
What an astounding, horrifying thought!

Love and prayers,

Ariel

Now they're saying the winds are still (STILL????? )
175.

My prayers are with everyone in the path of this horrendous storm!!!! This will definitely go down in the history books....it's HUGE and sooooo dangerous.

Prayers going out to all in the path of this storm. Isn't our civilatty in New Orleans? I hope she's fled to higher ground.

Wasn't it you and I Ntegrity, that lives close to one another?

I was listening to a professor from LSU talk about the aftermath of the hurricane in the New Orleans area. He discussed all of the chemical plants around the area and how these chemicals will in the flood waters and all over the city causing people with allergies and respiratory disorders to become sicker. Also because of the bacteria around there will be an increase in rabies particularly among raccoons. Then West Nile because of standing water and mosquitos. Not discounting the poisonous snakes that will come in from the swamps And last but not least, all bodies are buried above ground in S. Louisiana because of the water table, some of these coffins will be released because of the flooding.

We better pray real hard.

Hurricane Katrina is immense, and I haven't ever seen such a well defined eye before. This can take a while to finish loading, but it is worth the wait. Have a LOOK. May require patience.

Astronomical isn't it? You know Buzz, I have been through many hurricanes myself and have faithfully watched all the others, but this storm is scaring me so much I can't even say.Right now I am glued to the TV and I am so fearful for the people in New Orleans.I don't think a lot of people understand the ramifications. This is not just homes being leveled, this is major loss of human life. Not trying to be dramatic but I saw Kathleen Blanco's face this morning and I have known her all my life, and her agony was blatant. The mayor wasn't much better. The weather girl on Fox earlier grabbed her stomach. Prayers!!!!!

You know what is really burning my @ss...the fact that the "big" story on FOX affiliate WSVN in Miami is the stupid MTV Video Music Awards. There are people in New Orleans that are about to lose everything and all Channel 7 cares about is about whose in town for the VMAs. For a city that bore the brunt of Katrina as a Cat 1, they certainly do bounce back to their shallow ways quickly.

Hope they all get rained on tonight at the show :furious:

We're still planning to leave Thursday as long as Interstate 10 is open. It all depends on how much damage this monster storm does.

I'd love that, Lisa. Please PM me and we'll make plans to meet. I'm sorry to hear your DH is going to Iraq and wish him the best. God, I love our military families. You're awesome!

I am going to vent a little. Jeanne Meserve with CNN is there, she is a mom with a young daughter. Shepard Smith of Fox is there and just expressed concern for his safety. I want to know the news but are some of these networks not caring for their employees? If it is as bad as I think it will be, I hope they send in helicopters to get them out, no matter what the costs.

Some people aren't listening to the experts! The levees are old and were built with expectations of no more than a Cat 3. I am really worried, can you tell?
