We are in extreme east-central Alabama, near the GA line, and even here they are saying we can expect 40-50 MPH winds and flash-flooding.

I was listening to a professor from LSU talk about the aftermath of the hurricane in the New Orleans area. He discussed all of the chemical plants around the area and how these chemicals will in the flood waters and all over the city causing people with allergies and respiratory disorders to become sicker. Also because of the bacteria around there will be an increase in rabies particularly among raccoons. Then West Nile because of standing water and mosquitos. Not discounting the poisonous snakes that will come in from the swamps And last but not least, all bodies are buried above ground in S. Louisiana because of the water table, some of these coffins will be released because of the flooding.

Hurricane Katrina is immense, and I haven't ever seen such a well defined eye before. This can take a while to finish loading, but it is worth the wait. Have a LOOK. May require patience.

You know what is really burning my @ss...the fact that the "big" story on FOX affiliate WSVN in Miami is the stupid MTV Video Music Awards. There are people in New Orleans that are about to lose everything and all Channel 7 cares about is about whose in town for the VMAs. For a city that bore the brunt of Katrina as a Cat 1, they certainly do bounce back to their shallow ways quickly.

We're still planning to leave Thursday as long as Interstate 10 is open. It all depends on how much damage this monster storm does.nanandjim said:

I am going to vent a little. Jeanne Meserve with CNN is there, she is a mom with a young daughter. Shepard Smith of Fox is there and just expressed concern for his safety. I want to know the news but are some of these networks not caring for their employees? If it is as bad as I think it will be, I hope they send in helicopters to get them out, no matter what the costs.
