The reason I think there is strong possiblity that he is connected is because in 1992 he commited crimes in Bremer county.

So if they did get dna from the girls, does it mean they were not skeleton?

Yes, I think Klunder could be responsible and if our girls were found with zip ties, that may be a connection. Maybe he leaves them tied up to die on their own so he doesn't "commit" murder. I can't get over how big this guy is. He could have easily manhandled the girls. It would be very helpful to know how this girl was able to get away.

But then again, I thought that the "interview" person (Waterloo) could be the one.
And before that, I thought that Jesse Spears (Cody, WY) was the one.

It's just mind-boggling how many are out there.

Watcher, I know it blows my mind how many perverts are after kids. There is a 69 yr old pediatrician that just got arrested in Iowa for abusing a 5 yr old. Just makes me sick.

If Michael Klunder is responsible for what happened to our girls, my entire theory is wrong.

I don't know if he had knowledge of Meyers Lake and Seven Bridges, and since he killed himself we'll probably never know.

I tend to think he is not connected to Lyric and Lizzie. JMO

bbm - It goes against my theories, too, as I have never felt that our little girls were killed by a run-of-the-mill sex offender.

In order to get "our" case solved, I'm perfectly willing to be wrong, aren't you?

Let's admit that the locations and the "two at a time" thing certainly make this MK somebody to be very closely looked at.

How many of you think he is connected to our girls? If he is, it changes everything I thought.

I'm thinking there is a connection! What creeps me out is the pig farm connection. You suggested that as a possibility way back when..little did we know it would show up with this creep..

Who here thinks he is our girls killer? If he is it changes everything in my theory. It would mean the girls were killed at seven bridges. Oh my I hate not knowing anything.

I think it's a very good possibility but that might just be hopeful thinking on my part. I want so bad for Lyric and Lizzie's deaths to be solved.

Yes, that is creeping me out too. It seems that his mother-in-law owns her own business and is a wean to finish pork producer. I don't know if she sells them directly from her facility or if she transports them to a show/sell facility. But I am quite sure that is how he is connected to the pig farm operation.

I wonder if at least one of the recently abducted little girls might have known MK? For instance, the 12 y.o. who got away may have actually been able to tell LE who the perp was!!

Also, I'm trying to picture the look that must have come over his face when he realized that the 12 y.o. had escaped!! I hope it caused him to mess his large bloomers.

The 12 y.o. is my new hero. When she escaped, I suspect he knew he had "met his waterloo..."

I am just seeing a huge connection here. He has a history of kidnapping two kids at once. With serial predators, they pick up where they have left off when they get out of prison. He has had plenty of time to think about his "mistakes" and decides to kill his next victims to hide his crimes. About a year after he was released from prison (which he probably spends trolling around his old stomping grounds for victims and hiding spots), Elizabeth and Lyric are abducted. Getting away with it makes him feel more confident, except this time, maybe he will make sure the bodies aren't found. About 9 months later, two more girls are taken (to a hog farm!), which fits with the predatory cycle described in the article I linked. One gets away. He knows he will go back to prison and have the other two murders pinned on him, so he commits suicide. Predators don't change their tunes. They often have specific fantasies. His was having 2 victims, which is so rare. How many non-family abductions have their been in Iowa of 2 kids at once? I'm guessing he already is responsible for the vast majority, not even counting Elizabeth and Lyric.

Just don't know why they have to have his body to test for DNA, why it's not in the system.

Still praying for the missing girl.

I can tell you one thing, I don't really care to eat much pork, and now I'm positive I will never eat pork.

Sounds to me like they haven't been able to rule Klunder out right away.

Evansdale Police Chief Kent Smock said Wednesday they are working on “connecting the dots” right now and about 10 investigators, including FBI, DCI and local authorities, are working on that theory. However, they have “no hard facts” to make that connection at this time. They are similarities between the two kidnappings but they want to be cautious because nobody is interested in naming the wrong person.

“This isn’t the first time we have investigated a connection like this,” Smock said. “At this point, we want to keep the community and families informed and everybody wants closure but they also want justice. We don’t want to falsely implicate him (Klunder) if he’s not involved. He’s no longer alive but he has family and if we get the wrong suspect, the real one will go free.”

With Klunder having gone to Waverly high school, he's just the kind of guy who would know about seven bridges. I want so badly for Lyric and Lizzie's case to be solved, I really hope this is it.

IMO, the only reason he killed himself is because the 12-yr.-old got away and could give a good description of him & his car. If not for her escape, I believe he would continue his crimes in the future.
I always thought that life in prison for kidnapping was the sentence. At the time the other little girl escaped, I bet Kathlylnn was still alive & he wouldn't get life for murder. Because of this, I believe he very well could be involved in L & E's deaths. IMO, he was scared the girl would give good info. and he would be linked to the our girls, so he killed himself. What he did to Kathlynn and where she is, is the question. If he killed her, would this be his 1st or are there more?

I would swab the heck out of his truck to see what turns up - any vehicle he has. Also check any credit card tracks, receipts, gas receipts to see where he has been ...

I'd be curious to see if he carries fishing equipment in the back of his truck.

My question in this whole connection is why aren't they able to find Kathlynn? Wouldn't the 12 year old be able to tell authorities where he had taken them? Or at least where she escaped from? They have been looking for her for quite some time now, so clearly when she escaped Kathlynn wasn't at the same location, or am I crazy? :blushing:

Did he take them to two separate locations and the younger one escaped while he went back with Kathlynn?

OR - did he kill Kathlynn and the other girl saw what happened and somehow had enough fight in her to get away?

Maybe he tied up both of them at separate locations, went back to Kathlynn and she's no longer alive :( - when done, went back to the 12 year old's location - realized she was gone and then decided to take his own life?

OR - Maybe he killed Kathlynn and had some weird twist of remorse or suddenly had a conscious and let the younger one go - and took his life as soon as she left so he didn't have to face the consequences.

I'm not quick to assume there is a connection, but given the fact that they are even investigating a possible connection leads me to believe that my thoughts of LE having no solid leads/suspects this entire 10 mos was correct.:banghead:

I think he had them both at the same location, then the girl escaped and Kathlynn didn't, and then MK left with Kathlynn and took Kathlynn to some other location.

This does explain how he is able to handle two at once! 6ft 6" x 240 lbs ! ?
Farm worker so in good physical condition.

:scared:

All things considered, this guy is a "kidnapping machine" ! His size. His determination. His record. . . .
