Heather Collins was at a graduation party Friday night when she heard authorities had breaking news in the Shepard case.

“Just in my gut, I knew it wasn’t going to be good,” she said. “It brings it all back to the day we found out our girls were found.

“I feel for those families and pray they stick together and hold on to their faith,” Collins said. She and her husband have reached out to Kathlynn’s parents to let them know they’re available to talk and provide support, she said.

The Iowa Department of Public Safety wants to make it clear: it doesn't pay psychics to help solve cases.

Spokesman Rob Hansen said Thursday that Commissioner Brian London did ask investigators whether they'd tracked down any tips from psychics related to the kidnapping and slaying of two cousins.

Just how heavily were investigators depending on psychics regarding Elizabeth and Lyric????? What happened to good old fashioned leg work? Something is just not adding up here. Does anyone smell a skunk in the works?

Something stinks to high heaven!

I have lost so much confidence in LE/DCI/FBI in recent days. :sigh:

I just remember Abben on a live presser mentioned they wouldn't be looking to psychics or something like that. He was putting that idea down. Wasn't it recently that it was said they were considering psychics? Past month or two? I was surprised. gah...need to update my memory. My personal memory, not my computer's memory...

If they did listen to psychics from the start, then this case is almost identical to Haleigh Cumming's case now. Different names & setting is all.

From the article:

Among other cases, he has supervised the investigation into the abduction and slaying of two young cousins who vanished while riding bikes last year in Evansdale and were found dead in a wildlife reserve in December.

snip

"There are a number of extremely talented investigators within the DCI. We're doing all we can" to follow leads in the death of the cousins, 10-year-old Lyric Cook and 8-year-old Elizabeth Collins, Hansen said.

I wonder what difference this will make in the investigation - if any ?

I think the condition of the remains made it impossible to determine the COD. I also think no useful DNA was found.

When one of the team says sex isn't even know (in some sample) that does not bode well for having a decent sample, whatever the sample is...

If all they have is forensic evidence, partial DNA, it would take at least 6 weeks? Fibers, plant life, dirt, chemicals etc...Say Klunder gave both sets of girls the same drugs? Toxicoligy is 6 weeks usually. Used the same weapon to crack their skulls? Same horrible violent beatings? Sharp and blunt force beatings. The remains hold clues. Knowing that some partial fingerprints might have been overlooked...that's a another thing to investigate. I also thought of how long would it take to find what Klunder was driving in 2012. All the video footage to either match or disprove it's him has to be watched/reviewed again. Have to make sure it was him alone or was someone with him? Why was he in town? Who he visited? Did anyone see him in Readlyn, 7Bridges, Waverly that day and so on.

I give them 6 weeks total for testing and all. If they can prove it's not him then speak up by all means.

I'm reading on fb that Misty has moved to West Union? hmmm Remember that guy she bonded out of jail there last month?

Since these matters of dna and CODIS keep coming up I am sure there
are people with glazed eyes wondering 'what is this!' So, here are a few
links. It's not easy reading for the uninitiated but its better than nothing -

Let's start with the wiki link:
Combined DNA Index System - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

And then a few FBI links...

Here's an old article, not Abben's comment but it does have Sheriff Tony Thompson's words about the 80 some psychics emerging on Evansdale last year.

Thompson, the sheriff, admitted that the 80 psychics “all had different things to say.”

“I don’t think any of them were lottery winners"

This is JMO and my personal impression, but I got the feeling they addressed this because the psychic question kept coming up early on. In particular IIRC there were psychics posting things online about "visions" they'd had and such. It's been a long time and I assume the sources would be considered rumor at best, so I haven't looked them up again, but I remember when LE mentioned them early on I felt like they wanted to let people know essentially "yes we're listening to all tips including the ones from psychics but we aren't using psychics in the case." I'd forgotten the lottery winner comment but that makes me think even further that while they were taking all tips, they were discounting what they were hearing from psychics for the most part. Again MOO.

You don't have to be psychic to know that something isn't right with this case.

:trainwreck:

I think you're right about the comments re: psychics. While there were psychics offering their services, I doubt any of them were taken too seriously by LE. JMO.

Kathlynn Shepard's Tree of Hope (album 2 Photos)

The tree of Hope photo is beautiful, but the pic that caught my eye was the one that mirrors the pain and grief etched in Kathlynn's Dads's face.. This expression is a hallmark stamped on the many faces of the involuntary fraternity of the new life's normal; 'Parents of missing/murdered children across the USA..
