Evansdale Police say they plan to release some specific information related to the case on Tuesday, Feb. 3. They presented to a group of about 25 experts, including the FBI, NCIS, and U.S. Marshals Office. They laid out where the investigation is at now, while getting feedback from the experts on where to go next.

The press conference will be held at 10 a.m. KWWL plans to be there and stream the conference live on KWWL.com/live here: http://www.kwwl.com/live.

Whether the "crime scene" at the lake was fully staged, partially staged, or not staged at, all I have always felt it was the PERFECT location for them to go missing. Whether LE fell for that distraction, or whether they knew right away it was potentially staged, we don't know. We DO know that while the lake was being drained there were definitely other avenues being pursued and protocols followed - ones that had NOTHING to do with the lake.

At the time, and I'm not so sure my position has changed on this, I felt the lake dredging and draining was an ideal distraction for not only the media (to keep them occupied) but also to possibly not lead on that they did NOT believe the girls were in there, and it gave the perp the perception that LE believed they may actually have drowned.

On a side note - as far as "family being involved" with this distraction at the lake - I've also felt that IF they would have had something to do with them going missing they wouldn't have been screaming at LE that they weren't in the lake.

If the intent was to make the perception they'd drowned while they were being held/taken somewhere else, I wouldn't think the family would be doing interviews saying they hadn't ever been there, or that they would NOT go in the lake...kwim?
They would have been saying something like "we have told the girls several times they were NOT to go to the lake, but unfortunately it appears they didn't follow our instructions" Or "we have always feared this would happen, even though we've warned them multiple times to NOT come to the lake without supervision"...something along those lines.

I would think if anyone WANTED LE to think they were there, they would imply they too thought they had drowned. No?

Anyone have any thoughts on that? Maybe I've just not thought of an opposite approach on this...help me out. :)

Good post! You brought up a point I haven't thought that much about.

I don't have the link handy, but one of the family (I think it was Misty) mentioned it was unlikely the girls went into the lake with their clothes on. None of the family ever indicated they thought the girls had drowned.

But I don't know if the bikes were staged to make someone think the girls were in the lake. I still am not sure about staged/not staged. It's one of the points I go around and around with.

I am very eager to hear the press conference tomorrow. While it's too much to hope an arrest will be announced, I hope we'll learn something new.

My hope is that since they are seemingly making a somewhat big deal of this, that they are going to be releasing something with some "meat" to it and not piddly stuff that the general population already knows or worthless info. That's my hope anyway.

I don't know why, but the release of the suspect info kind of annoyed me. Maybe it's because I've followed this case from day one like a hawk, but all of that info seemed like "no-brainer" info to me. Things that were pretty obvious.

Maybe when they went to this meeting the group brainstormed and decided that keeping everything SO close to the vest clearly wasn't bringing forward the info they needed? They kept upping the reward (I thought) in the hopes it would bring forth new leads. Maybe those have died out and the "feds" or whoever they are said that it was time to eek out a smidge more info - enough of a teaser to maybe get someone to say "ok, this is the final straw, I have to call". Maybe it was someone that they could conveniently "rule out" but with new info they can't ignore yet another coincidence?

Who knows? I guess we will find out at 10am tomorrow.

On a side note - our upper management planned a damned meeting at, you guessed it, 10am tomorrow so I will be late to the party.

Or...maybe I'm feeling sick and should stay home tomorrow. :giggle:

Well, I was just coming here to post the link about the new press conference, but you guys of course are already on it. :loveyou: I really hope something concrete comes out of this specific information that we are going to hear. I'll be at work, so I have faith that someone here is going to cover it well and I'll be here as soon as I can.

I am not getting my hopes up. There hasn't been one press conference and/or media release yet that has provided any type of information that was substantial and/or that hasn't been mentioned/re-hashed over and over since the beginning of the case or that we didn't already know. Hopefully, I am wrong.

IMO, Kent Smock being considered one of the lead investigators is troublesome to me as it seems IMO he has a close (possibly even personal) relationship with family members and anything and everything he learns or knows or has known can be (and probably) has been relayed/discussed with family which IMO has probably already hindered the investigation and probably continues to hinder the investigation. And I will stop here.

Maybe LE will at least officially declare this a double homicide.

I'm hoping for some helpful info, but won't be surprised is nothing new is disclosed.

What have they been calling it? I didn't realize they weren't calling it a double homicide already.

While it has been treated as a double homicide, LE has never officially stated it was homicide. I don't know why, although we've speculated on it many times.

Maybe I'm excited for no good reason, but that's what I'm feeling right now, and it feels kind of good. So I will remain hopeful tonight.

It's exciting just to have the girls in the news again. I'm hoping for the best, but won't be surprised if we are disappointed again.

I feel somewhat optimistic as well. I think we'll likely hear a confirmation of or details about some things that we've speculated and wondered about, so maybe not earth-shattering but probably useful. But we'll see.

Agreed, threekrazykids... I will be crushed if the info release isn't significant, and is played as close to the vest as it has been up to this point.

Even if the news is not earth shattering, there is probably a whole lotta shakin goin on for the killer right now :).

The thanks button isn't enough for this update JerseyGirl I am grateful for any news or press conference in this case. Hopefully even if it's just an appeal for information it means a step closer in the road to finding the perp(s). See you all later today.
