I suppose part of the frustration for the parents and some people is that the LE seem to be looking more towards finding dead bodies.the lake,trash,landfill where as the parents are screaming for them to move and look for them to be alive....as are all people......
Only now it seems that they are doing a major road stop search on vehicles.....I personally would have been screaming at the LE to look elsewhere other than the lake.....I would be screaming for the World to stop so I could find my children.....
Why has this not been done before on a more major scale?....they have given away time most crucial in any case of missing children...that window was wide open for anyone to to get far away if it is the case that these little sweethearts have been abducted.....
I hope at least they have checked CCTV cameras at highway stops,and near by businesses and checked all houses in the surrounding area....basements,garages etc

I think the parents were trying to say this...but...things have to be processed methodically. I wonder if LE has some ideas that this is not a crime committed by a local and the girls could be anywhere in the country or world by now?

I also want to make the point in general, not to you per se, that the general public will feel less interested or inclined to follow this case the more the family’s histories and lifestyles are focused on. Mainly, because people tend to lose sympathy or lack empathy for people who are "shady" and get dismissive "bound to happen, what do they expect, it was their druggie friends" when hearing about cases with kids from less than ideal backgrounds. IMOO regardless of the struggles, the issues the family has, they are still hurting, in pain and are missing a child. I just can’t crucify them or treat them as less than “human” because they have used drugs, gone to prison, etc. I can’t go there because, their child and their feelings are just as real, valuable and worth everyone’s respect even though they aren’t the “perfect” “above the board” American family. IMOO. . It also does a huge disservice to the world, because by focusing on their lifestyle and flaws, many people get the attitude, it can’t happen to us, it only happens to “shady” people.

So what prevented him from entering the plea deal the day BEFORE the girls came up missing? Has that been discussed & I missed the explanation?

It states in the article quoted that: "Morrissey does not intend or is not prepared to enter a guilty plea at this time and wants this case reset for trial."

TY-I am a huge supporter to of LE-They have a hard job-but some evidence would have surface IMO if they were in the lake-a shoe or flip flop-they float-I think its time for me to sit on my hands & just read!

I think it is possible they thought that the flip flops were stuck in the marshy mucky bottom of the lake. I DOUBT IT. But they needed to check to make sure the girls were not there. But I do think they were looking at other scenarios as well. They interviewed a couple hundred perps and searched local cars and homes and businesses too. And they did a background investigation of the families and their friends and relatives. So I think they have been working this case hard.

Statistically, a lot more kids drown than get abducted. They had to look at it, imo.

Just a comment about those upset about a "wasted week."

This morning, before the lake scan, the girls were already listed on the FBI's list of missing and abducted persons. It's semantics. Think about it. They had already set up the vehicle check plan, before the lake work was done today. They were focused on the Friday traffic pattern. That's part of a parallel investigation.

I agree LE has been pursuing a parallel path investigation the entire time. Part of me believes they dragged out the draining of the lake in hopes of keeping the perp confident they might be on the wrong path (FYI - using pumps to drain the lake controls the water flow so could have actually slowed the draining process). I do, however, question them "clearing" RSOs so quickly and not putting out a general cautionary statement to the public.

Something is weird here. They have video of the kids but can't tell what their wearing. Shorts/pants?

I would be incredibly, incredibly surprised if they were wearing pants. It was cooler and not as humid that Friday but it was still warm.

I'm thinking that the video may have been shot in black and white, which seems to be very common with security cameras.

It is possible they were searching the lake for articles of clothing and may have found something but are not saying? It would make sense to play this case in a way that is very vague, were LE looks like they have no clue or leads, where the family appears to be focused on and not even knowing what the kids were wearing with the hopes the perp won't feel pressure and do something drastic.

Ok, I am trying to get this clear in my head. Are we saying that Lyric's father was supposed to appear in court, the day AFTER she went missing, for his latest drug charges?

Because if so, then I understand more fully why LE is interrogating him. I don't think he personally did anything to the girls, but I have to wonder if he was getting a horrible warning message from someone about his court appearance. Maybe he was reminded that he is supposed to keep his mouth shut about something?

eta: so wait, his appearance was the day before she went missing? This still makes me wonder if it is connected somehow. It kind of reminds me of Isabel Celis's father, with the supervision of the father etc.

I hope so. And I understand that this being a case involving children, things might happen in a different fashion. My HS friend's husband went missing at the end of June for 17 days. His body was recovered in his car at the bottom of a river. Today I learned that it took six days for police to interview my friend about her missing husband and that LE did not keep this family informed. In fact, she learned of her husband's fate on Facebook.

I'm probably a little emotional today. I know there are good people doing the best they can.

WOW, that is awful. I'm sorry I know it's unrelated to this case but that makes me shiver just thinking about it. I always worry about friends/relatives finding out this kind of news via news stories or websites when they release an identity too soon but finding out on FACEBOOK? Ugh.

There was a case around here a year or two ago where a guy kidnapped his girlfriend's child and they ended up in the canal/river (or at least his car did). It made me so sad to think how many families probably got the answers they needed months or even years after the fact when that was going on.

Anyway... back on track! Have we heard much of anything else about where Elizabeth and Lyric liked to hang out? Things they enjoyed other than swimming, riding bikes, and apparently talking to neighbors? I'm just trying to think of anything at all that might lead in a new direction.

in their cases did they ever use Lyric or take her as a decoy in any deliveries?
Why I ask, is so many tuck drugs in diapers etc on the news.
Kids end up at school with dad's drugs in their backpacks and get caught.
What do we know about their arrests?
I'm still thinking someone knew and stalked Lyric to get to her dad for that trial.
Everything backfired with an extra girl and this case went from small town news to nationwide news.
