I will search for the article that stated basically the footage was handed over from the homeowner pretty early on but it took weeks for LE to track the car down because they did not have the plate number they only had distinctive markings on the car.

There have been several accounts as to when they received the footage but it took them a long time to track the car down.

I see, so they did have the tape but did not know the vehicle. I read that an officer recognized the vehicle from having to write it up at one time so it most likely was not until he took a gander at it did they know.
Thanks kpm.

Earlier in our discussion, it was shared that a burglary had occurred near DJ’s home on the day she ran. What are your thoughts on that now? Unrelated?

I don't believe it was a burglary, just some vandalism.

I never did think there was any connection. It's summer, kids are bored and out late, someone says "I dare you to throw a rock through the hardware store window", then you have the double-dog dare, the triple dare you, and the coup de grâce of all dares, the sinister triple-dog dare - unless someone creates a slight breach of etiquette by skipping the "triple dare you" and going right for the throat - and next thing you know you have a busted window.

Maybe I need a cup of Harmony's coffee, but how is it the perp worked and was known under another name, yet kept an active FB (laden with babe-friends from other cities) in his full, presumably real name? Usually people interested in keeping a low FB profile come up with a pseudonym, or fiddle with the spelling (example - "Web5leuth5"). He used a fake identity in a very small town, yet here we are knowing his purported full name. Unless that's fake, too?

Did the Feds find his true identity via fingerprints, suggesting a criminal past in Mexico?

His colleagues were stunned Tuesday to learn that he was not only the suspect in Tibbetts' death, but that he had a different real name than what he went by on the farm, he said.

"Our employee is not who he said he was," Lang said at a news conference at the farm. "This was shocking to us."

When Rivera was hired in 2014, he presented an out-of-state government-issued photo identification and a matching Social Security card, he said. That information was run through the Social Security Administration's employment-verification system and checked out, he said.

This had to be hours and hours of work for investigators. At the press conference he said they spent hours on this tape alone just looking for Mollie.

Yes possibly but I would think that LE would have been looking at every camera from every angle unless they could not see that one physically?

a modern camera may have been very small. also understand that modern systems are using a hard drive to record to, not film and not a tape. a terabyte or bigger hard drive is a LOT to go threw. if played back in real time speed it would take 1 min of watch time for every camera so if 4 cameras then 4 of watch time for every 1 min of real time, if 8 cameras then 8 min of watch time for one min of real time.

Hundreds gather to remember Mollie Tibbetts

“The stories you've heard about Mollie over the past month are incredible,” Jake said. “She was incredible. And we uh, we know we're going to miss her dearly.

“What made her so special is that she was like anyone standing here. She loved to run. She loved Harry Potter. She loved the Hawks. She loved her family. She loved her friends. She was goofy. She was clumsy, you know. She made mistakes. She owned up to them. She fought with her siblings, a lot. Um that's what we're going miss the most.

“Because she was so outgoing, take a couple of minutes here and find someone you've never met before and talk to them, meet them, make a new friend tonight because that's what she would do. She'd make friends with every single person in the crowd if she could."

I’m wondering what set this perp off (if anything). Thinking back to some cases in the past of perps raping and murdering strangers, sometimes there was an incident in the perp’s (low) life that challenged his ego in some way - boss fired him or threatened to fire him, girlfriend or wife found to be unfaithful or rebuffed him in some way, etc.

I don’t think he was set off, I think he planned to troll for a female and Mollie was in the wrong place at the wrong time or he knew she was alone.

If accounts are true, he has a history of trolling girls in the area, which makes complete sense since it’s highly doubtful this is his first assault based on his actions.

Moo

Wonder if this killer was on a drunken stupor that evening? Not excusing just thinking after work beers turned into chaos perhaps. Pent up anger? Throwing things at buildings snatching a runner off the road etc UGH this could have been any of our daughters. So so sad over Mollie.
Jme jmo imo

I posted a similar link previously. I'm not seeing how either this post or link confirms that CHR is his real name. So he says he comes from Guayabillo in Guerrero. Maybe that's true, but it doesn't mean he's using his real name, unless the FBI or others somehow confirmed it.

I think he had been rebuffed by many women. JMO

Unfortunately this happens in these situations as the system is not perfect and there are those who exploit it by assisting people like CR in obtaining this type of identification under different names and social security numbers for $$. Where there is money to be made there are those who will exploit the system. go after the forgers of these documents and that industry if you want to stop this type of thing from occurring regularly. I have worked with employers who have discovered these forged documents despite the employee passing the E-verify system only after ICE or another agency alerted them to the issue.

I've worked (and work) with people who went by names that were so different than their formal name, that when I learned what their real name was, it blew my mind.
I had no idea they were one and the same. I can think of 3 people right off the top of my head.

I understand this case is different - most people give their employer their legal name and then refer to themselves as something different in public. CR seems to have done this in reverse, for what appears to me to be obvious reasons.

But when asked how is it the perp worked and was known under another name, yet kept an active FB real name? The answer appears simple to me - except for people in his inner circle, people probably didn't know he'd given his employer a different name or if they did, they either didn't care or thought it was no big deal. People use different names all the time for professional reasons, and no one thinks twice about it. Eilleen Edwards come to mind.

Was about to say that. Construction sites are notorious.

One time roofers whistled and made catcalls at my wife. And they were roofing our house.
When I was building a house the brickers were from Mexico, every Friday I would have a BBQ for all the workers and I could tell some of them were getting the wrong idea about me, they didn’t know I could understand them.

From then on I had my husband or general contractor there because I was not comfortable alone.

Never dismiss gut feelings and don’t worry about offending someone, go with your gut!
