Ian Cameron, 74, was reportedly attacked last Friday night at his home in Herrsching, south-west of Munich. His wife fled to a neighbour's house and raised the alarm.

Police later released an image of the suspect taken in a local supermarket before the killing. They said the man had been in the Herrsching area for several hours.

Police have launched a manhunt for his killer after Mr Cameron's wife jumped over a wall to escape.

Verena Kloos managed to get to their neighbour's house and phone the police.

Mr Cameron was a vintage car expert who retired from Rolls-Royce in 2013.

This was after 20 years at the firm, working on the design of cars such as the 3 Series, Z8, Phantom, and Ghost
