That makes me think the defense is going to claim Alex and Chad conspired to kill the children but they told Lori they were hidden away in a safe place.

TBH, while I don't believe that, if the only data I had was the call from Lori to Chad while the FBI was unearthing the babies, I might believe it. She sounded clueless.

I think it's very possible they will allude to that. She had been in jail awhile before she ended up in the psych hospital. JMO

Closed courtroom for jury selection is apparently not the standard in Idaho. I don't like the rules changing for this trial - it seems to me that the same rules should apply to all. If the Idaho bar is questioning this, we should all be concerned.

I have never heard of the public watching jury selection, jurors are kept private even in televised trials.

Apparently four potential jurors from the first batch didn't know anything about this case before. There are still people who don't follow the news.

I kinda agree that Rexburg would be a bad place for a trial. Just about the whole city took sides while the children were missing.

The courtrooms are always open to the public. However if televised, the jurors faces are not shown and they are referred to by their number and not their names. I can't think of one trial where the public was not allowed in the courtroom for jury selection.

I just finished watching Vinnie Politan's Court TV show and The Woodcock's attorney Shanon Gray was on and he did not mention anything about a decision or when it is expected.

Count 2 (for Tylee): 1st degree murder. Count 3 (for JJ): Conspiracy to commit 1st degree murder & grand theft by deception. Count 4(for JJ): 1st degree murder. Count 5 (for Tammy): Conspiracy to commit 1st degree murder. Count 6: Lori only: Grand theft (related to social security survivor benefits allocated for the care of minors Tylee & JJ). 3/30/23: Motion to allow victims family to be present at all criminal justice proceedings & designate a personal representative. Motion to appeal amended nondissemination order for Kay & Larry Woodcock.
4/3/23 Monday, Jury Selection Day 1: Proceedings will begin each day at 8:30am & Judge Steven Boyce wants to dismiss the jury around 3:30pm. There will be 18 jurors – 12 jurors & 6 alternates. Need to reach 42 potential jurors.

Boyce explains during voir dire, the potential jurors could be dismissed for cause. The prosecution & defense are each allowed to dismiss a certain number of potential jurors without cause. Boyce says the trial will last up to 8 weeks. Madison County Prosecuting Attorney Rob Wood began voir dire. Then Rachel Smith took over voir dire for the prosecution. And then Jim Archibald began voir dire. A group of 15 jurors for each session.

*AZ – *Charge Vallow (62) shot on July 11, 2019. Lori Norene Vallow indicted (6/24/21) & served (6/29/21) with 1 count of conspiracy to commit 1st degree murder in the death of former husband Charles Vallow . Maricopa County

That is so hard to fathom. Unless those potential jurors live completely off-grid, it just doesn't seem possible.

But strange things happen.

As a prosecuting attorney, I would be a little suspicious of that claim, thinking perhaps the juror was linked in with the cult LV and CD belonged to and was planning to keep a verdict from being unanimous.

But, that's all JMOO...

I'm being too skeptical.

How many alternate jurors will there be in this trial?
If this trial goes on for months the jurors will get to know each other pretty well and will likely sus out anyone lied to get on the jury in order to let Lori walk.
I'd like to think at that point the jury foreman would let the judge know and an alternate juror would be seated.
