After her death Chad claimed that he could communicate with Tammy on the other side of the veil and described how she was already busy with "her mission". He portrayed Lori as a grieving widow who he bonded with. Chad cried convincingly when Tammy was found and again at her funeral. He's a diabolical manipulator (just like Lori).

The bruises are, IMO, what finally make the bizarre "rolling out of bed" story make sense. If, after the fact, CD saw the bruising, he'd have to come up with something quick to explain it away. It was a desperate, last-minute change of plan that, if he'd had time to think about it, he'd have seen that it didn't make sense with her time of death based on lividity -- which is where he then had to revise it to the strange "she must have been tangled in the sheets" explanation.
