Justin Lum interviews Annie Cushing

at 5- 10mins, she interprets LV's reactions to the verdict and how Annie has struggled, for example, waking in the mornings with hatred and bitterness plus how she felt in May 2020 about Joe being described as a child molester.

at 12mins onwards, she gives her thoughts about the prospects of LV being convicted for Charles Vallow

If Melaniece had a deal, it was with Idaho, correct? So, no immunity in AZ. This might be why she broke court rule in ID and watched the trial? So she didn't have to testify and put herself in jeopardy in AZ?
We should remember that Melaniece comes from the same gene pool as Lori and Alex.

I'm thinking that I would be happy for LWP in Idaho, plus LWP in Arizona, to be served consecutively!
Interesting. I'm not sure how it would work. I think in that case the sentences would naturally be consecutive. But after she is convicted in Arizona, Arizona may not want the expense of actually incarcerating her in 20 years when her health care expenses are high and she needs to be in a special unit because of her age. They might specify her sentence be served in Idaho concurrently but once she is granted parole in Idaho she must apply for parole in Arizona. Such an unusual situation!

So did Tylee, who did nothing wrong, and loved and cared for her adopted younger brother like he was her own child despite her own tender years.

While our genetics and our upbringing can affect our lives, what matters are our choices.

If we're going to come down on other members of Lori's family who were involved in these crimes, let's do it because of their choices, not because of things they have no control over.

Our choices are what matter, in the end.

And why should Chad be offered a deal anyway?
The only deal I can imagine the prosecution offering would be to save the taxpayers the expense of a trial. And it would have to include a recommendation of LWOP and a full allocution of what happened. Frankly, he'd be a fool not to jump at that after today's news!

Boyce thanks all the jurors for their service. He explains that a pre-sentence report needs to be completed before he sentences Lori. He believes it will be about three months. Lori's reaction - very straight-faced, no emotion. She will not go back to the Madison County Jail.

Jurors are being escorted out. Judge asks us all to remain here until they have left. Court is adjourned. I'll be live shortly outside with new developments. Also - a special two-hour Dateline airs tonight with @dateline_keith
about the case and the trial. Watch tonight on NBC.

from press conference:
Larry says “turn out the lights, the party’s over.”

Kay says “it’s great. We can put JJ to rest.”

Larry: “Love always wins.”

Larry: “I love you. Papa wishes you were here. Tylee - papa loves you. Tammy - I never meant you. You are part of our life. I am sorry for what happened. My heart hurts for these three.”

“This isn’t the end. 90 days from today we will be in Fremont county. And I will say, “Why, Lori? Why? Power, sex and greed for what? For what?”

I'm familiar. I'd still rather her be in a state prison. I get she's not going to Alabama, Louisiana, or Cook County but still, most county jails are welcomed
I understand your reasons. But like you said, Arizona is not Alabama or Louisiana. It's prisons are relatively humane from what I understand as are its county jails. Maricopa is the exception. From what I understand it is a sprawling tent complex with minimal creature comforts.

I find the Cox family statement tone deaf! While it is something, how about apologizing for producing and raising such evil spawn? While I do not doubt they feel real grief at their loss of family members as well, they cannot equate it to what Charles's and Tammy's families are experiencing until they accept their own responsibility. My partner said something to me tonight that led to a realization. She has not really been following the case but she knows I have been for 3+ years so she reads news when she sees it and watched the netflix series (which I have not). Her comment was about JJ. She knows a little about autistic kids and pointed out something mentioned that JJ often repeated things he had heard, often with no understanding.

So now I am thinking Tylee saw Charles's murder so she had to go (remember, Alex was still alive). And JJ may have seen or heard something when Tylee was killed and was randomly repeating it so he had to go. We talked about Alex's death too. Her take was that he did kill the kids but she thinks his natural causes death makes sense given his pre-existing conditions and enormous stress from doing these horrible crimes when he believed himself to be a good mormon.

I can't say I disagree with her theory!

finally caught up! i fell asleep in the early hours of this morning (my local time) literally five minutes before it was announced that a verdict has been reached. woke up this morning to the thread header - GUILTY! such a relief!

this case brought me back to WS after a break of years - so long that i no longer had access to my old email account and needed to create a new profile

i have said before that following cases from my location relies so heavily on your generosity especially in cases that are reported by tweets. so thank you for linking and summarising tweets, providing your insights and commentary, providing local and specialised knowledge, uploading images and screenshots and archiving these, and for being so witty and amusing!

the journalism in this case by Nate, Brian, Justin, Keith and others has been of a high standard, so thank you for also providing links to their stories

most of all, i feel the loss of three sweet souls Tammy, Tylee and JJ - i hope those that love them can find peace

I'm pretty sure I read someone else back on the threads saying the same thing about JJ and echolalia. It's heartbreaking as a possibility. I'm autistic myself and it always cuts me deeply when one of my autistic siblings is murdered because of their inherent nature and neurotype.

I, personally, think that JJ would have been killed whether he was repeating things that were indicative of the broader pattern of crime or not. It was the ultimate revenge of Lori on Kay for the matter of Charles's money. I'm sure she thought it was balancing the scales in some perverse way. And it was one step closer to achieving the no spouses + no kids + Hawaii = life goals master plan Lori and Chad were working towards.

Of course, if she wasn't completely amoral, she could have just stuck JJ on an aeroplane back to his grandparents and washed her hands of him, but hurting Kay cruelly was the point. They murdered Charles before the divorce could progress to try to get a cool million. Murdering JJ so that Kay and Larry never got him back, ever again, was her triumph. Murdering him in such a terrifying, slow way made her feel powerful. Up until the verdict, she giggled and smiled her way through even the worst bits of the trial, because if she was ever going to feel anything other than glee, power, and pride in her acts, she would have done before she ever contemplated them. She never asked herself, "should I do this?" with a view to her impact on others as human beings with a right to exist, she only ever asked, "can I do this?" and the answer she always gave herself was "yes".

What about the neighbor doorbell cam, that recorded JJ saying 'get the h*ll outta here!'...?

I'll bet dollars to doughnuts he was quoting either of Charles or Alex when Charles lost his life.

This is what I stated the other day. However, now that she was convicted on all counts, the state doesn't really have much motivation to deal minus money/time to prosecute. While I feel JP is a stronger lawyer, it's clear what the likely outcome is regardless of a better defense. CD isn't going to just agree to life without parole and no DP which I'm assuming would be what would be offered. I think they'll just roll the dice since it came back so definitively. I was assume JP would advise otherwise...but
What puzzles me is that there is no co counsel in Chads case. We have seen in Loris case the amount of data involved, I’m surprised that Judge Boyce hasn’t addressed this.
I suspect JP strategy is to continue to push the trial date out as far as he can and then try to exclude as much evidence as he can.
