Yes, and it might not be about beauty, it may be about other expectations too. Maybe not interested in the "end of the world", maybe not interested in being a hairstylist like mommy, maybe not interested in attending BYU, maybe not interested in being the stereotype of the mormon teen girl (even though Lori didn't seem too worried with the LDS faith in the end)... at some point, stuff starts adding up and the kids start wanting to be themselves, their real selves without mommy or daddy telling them that they have to be a certain way or do a certain thing.
