On Sept. 26, five days after the bodies were found and before the arrests, Logan County Sheriff Steve Nichols said the person or persons responsible may have suffered injuries in the "violent struggle" that took place in the Gee home.


Nichols said it was possible the injured person may not have sought medical attention.




Do either of the men arrested have injuries? It doesn't look like it in photos (hands, arms, face) but wondered if anyone had heard otherwise.

Dillen's sister, Terri Miller, who said he had fought the hardest, so I figured some of the others had fought as well.

Arrests in Beason homicides result from task force cooperation

The Illinois State Police was notified of the incident at approximately 4:30 p.m. on Monday, September 21, with Crime Scene Investigators (CSIs) arriving at the Gee residence in Beason at 5:45 p.m. Six CSIs, travelling from as far as Rockford, East Moline, and Charleston, worked more than 138 hours during the initial investigation. The Illinois State Police also provided 17 Special Agents from six of the seven Investigative Zones, five Intelligence Analysts, and four Zone Intelligence Officers. Personnel also travelled from nearly every corner of the state to provide manpower for the task force. Air Operations also assisted by providing aerial photos of the scene.

During the early stages of the investigation, 133 items of evidence were submitted to the ISP Forensic Science Laboratory for analysis. Five Forensic Scientists have been dedicated solely to analyzing items collected from the Beason scene and have been working to provide results on the most probative evidence. ISP Forensic Scientists received the evidence on September 29 and were able to analyze enough evidence in two days resulting in the arrest of Christopher Harris. In order to aid the ongoing investigation, results on the highest priority exhibits continue to be communicated to Investigators as soon as they are available.

The ISP continues to further develop this surge concept for use in significant and/or catastrophic incidents such as this case. Dependent upon case criteria and circumstances, deployment of the Major Case Squad may be implemented anywhere throughout Illinois. Rapid deployment of this team of highly-trained and experienced experts provides the very best opportunity to solving crimes and restoring safety within our communities.

LINCOLN -- A Florida woman charged with obstructing justice in the murder investigation of five members of a Beason family has been returned to Illinois to face charges.

Sara Duncan was processed at the Logan County Safety complex Sunday before being housed in Macon County, according to a spokeswoman for the Illinois Attorney General's office. Duncan was arrested Oct. 9 in Sarasota, Fla., On Oct. 9 and accused of providing a false alibi for Christopher J. Harris.

Harris and his brother, Jason L. Harris, each face five counts of first degree murder in the Sept. 21 deaths of Ruth and Rick Gee and three of their children. The brothers, who are from Armington, also are charged with the attempted murder of Tabitha Gee, the slain couple's 3-year-old daughter.

Duncan had been held in the Sarasota County jail without bond on a fugitive warrant from Illinois.

A Logan County court appearance has not been set for Duncan.

A fourth suspect facing charges connected to the murders is Duncan's daughter, Jennifer Earnest, who is the girlfriend of Jason Harris. She also is charged with obstruction of justice for giving police a false alibi for Harris.

Sara A. Duncan, 43, of Sarasota, Fla., is facing five counts of obstruction of justice regarding the investigation into the murders of Raymond and Ruth Gee and three of their children.

Duncan is the mother of Jennifer Earnest, 24, of Armington, who was arrested with her boyfriend, Jason L. Harris, 22, on Oct. 7 by the Gee task force.

Duncan was arrested that day by Florida officials and transported over the weekend to Logan County, according to a spokesman in the Illinois Attorney General’s press office.

After seeing an arrest report at the jail this morning, a Courier reporter contacted Logan County State’s Attorney Michael McIntosh to inquire about the specific nature of Duncan’s charges. But McIntosh said he didn’t have that information.

Asked for the same information, the Illinois Attorney General’s office did not respond to The Courier’s inquiry before press time.

Relatives of a slain Beason family will be in court Wednesday, looking for answers. . .

"We need to know something -- even the motive--about why these two have been arrested," said Terry Miller, Dillen's stepmother. If information is not disclosed in court, Miller said the family is prepared to ask police for more answers.

LINCOLN -- A grand jury has returned multiple indictments against brothers Christopher J. and Jason L. Harris in connection with the Beason family slayings.

The brothers are accused of killing Rick and Ruth Gee, three of their children, and critically injuring a 3-year-old survivor. Chris Harris is the ex-husband of Rick Gee's older daughter, Nicole Gee, who was not involved.

The brothers appeared separately in Logan County court on Wednesday afternoon and pleaded not guilty to all charges. Several family members, including Nicole Gee, were in the courtroom.

The grand jury met at least for several days this week before returning the charges on Wednesday.

The 67-count indictment against Chris Harris, 30, includes 57 counts of murder and additional counts of attempted murder, armed robbery, residential burglary, and attempted criminal sexual assault.

Jason Harris, 22, faces the same charges, plus three counts of obstruction of justice for allegedly giving a false alibi for himself and Chris, burning clothing belonging to his brother, and concealing a computer.

LINCOLN, Ill. — Indictments released Wednesday claim two brothers armed with a tire iron broke into a family's home to rob them and assault a teenage girl before beating five people to death.

Christopher Harris, 30, and his brother, Jason Harris, 22, are charged in the deaths of Christopher Harris' former in-laws.

The 68 counts against Christopher Harris and 71 against his brother include first-degree murder, attempted murder, variations of those charges and attempted sexual assault. Jason Harris also is charged with obstructing justice by burning his brother's clothes, hiding a stolen computer and lying to police.

The brothers pleaded not guilty to all the charges during a Wednesday court appearance.

The pair are accused of killing Raymond "Rick" Gee, his wife, Ruth, and three of their children last month. The Gee's 3-year-old daughter also was severely injured.

This case hits close to home for me. I will bet money and have said from the 1st day the news broke about the murders that this will have something to do with drugs. Now with the Harris involvement I feel even more convinced. Based on the fact that the motive appears to have been burglary its not a huge stretch to imagine that perhaps monoey was needed for drugs. I do not know ANY of the parties involved but am simply basing my theory on reports about Harris, he and the Gee daughter's tumultuous relationship and mostly by reading between the lines of comments made by folks who DO know him.

The little town of Beason is very close to where I live and the idea that someone trusted and known, who was actuallly family at one time, who knows my children well and was a frequent guest in my home could just break in and murder my whole family. It is terrifying. Those poor people, it is something out of a nightmare.

I think this case is going to be much more sinister than anyone has realized.

I believe the attempted sexual assault against Justina and the laptop taken will become key pivotal evidence in this case. I cant see Ruth or Rick being into computers much but I can see them buying a laptop for their 16 year old daughter. IMO, the laptop will belong to Justina.

We really have no idea what was in the twisted minds of both of these suspects. All we know is the results of their planning and aforethought brought about these most tragic results for a family of 6.

To beat someone to death with a tire iron shows that these perps have cold granite hearts. This goes much deeper than stealing or drugs imo.

Sorry I was unclear. I, in no way, was suggesting that the Gee family had drugs in their home or were in any way involved in drugs. I simply meant that I have a bad feel about Christopher Harris and think his actions will turn out to be motivated by drug use or the wish to obtain money or electronics that could be traded fur drugs.

I have heard something truly disturbing regarding a particular injury inflicted on at least one of the victims and wondered how I could go about substantiating it. I will not post the disturbing item here but any advice on how to best search all news coverage for statements regarding specific injuries inflicted so that I can determine if it is fact or rumor would be appreciated.

NOt sure of that one. I assume perhaps her clothing may have been in some disarray, perhaps torn half off, etc. But you are right, without any eyewitness capable of testifying I am not sure how they reached that conclusion.

You mean since the victim is voiceless now?

There can be forensic evidence such as DNA of both suspects found on Justina's body even if there was no penetration. It can be semen or it can be RADs (skin cells.) Touch DNA can be found forensically.

Also the way that Justina was found can also tell if an attempted sexual assault was intended. For example; if she was found nude or semi nude in her bed or wherever and none of the other victims were unclothed then the only intent for that would be in order to sexually assault her imo.

I have wondered if Justina had an on line boyfriend and messages and emails were exchanged but it wasn't a "real" boyfriend but one of the Harris brothers instead trying to seduce a very naive vulnerable child. That would explain why they took the laptop thinking if they did then no one could find out about the on line activity.

Hi tlcox, I live in Decutur now, used to live in Lincoln and drive through Beason/Chesntut everyday. Where is it you live at? Take care Hon, and hopefully this will not come down to being only about drugs/drug money??? Please don't tell me they murdered (if they did, accused but not tried) these poor innocent people for nothing other than money??? I still (however, not substantiated believe that there has always been other involvement) from Chris' off-again, on-again wife of the sweet new baby girl they just had!!
