I agree that it's hard . But it's not nearly as hard as it is for an actual victim who is afraid of not being believed. And I have to believe that if we all show more restraint, we can make society more fair for people from all walks of life.

It gets exhausting, this era of barracuda behavior, where people all jump on one another the minute something seems to clash with our "gut". I think we are strong enough to extend compassion and some benefit of the doubt without getting suckered. Maybe it used to be called etiquette or civility, but maybe a better term is "boundaries".

The thing is that there are times when self proclaimed victims get the benefit of the doubt and the accused gets dragged through the dirt for attempting to be civil & expecting people to be true & decent. VERY recent times-like one month ago the same day the Empire set got their poison pen/lynching letter. I do not have any reason, as of now, to think theres a connection between these 2 events but i was wanting to address that remaining civil & how sometimes it bites the decent people (like a 16 year old minor) in the butt. Here's the "Truth" video of the Covington kid if you have 14 minutes & have not seen this. I tried to watch it at work but it made me cry. Still SMH. OH!, and its been out for a few weeks but i haven't seen it on any MSM, perhaps because the lawsuits are coming.

I do not believe it does anyone any good to re-interview politicians or others who spoke supportively of this guy in an attempt to make them eat crow or belittle them for falling for the story in the beginning. The only shame should be for anyone who would take away from the true victims who don't get this kind of compassion and care when they should. If found to be guilty he should have to work for one year for free at a crisis center working with unprivileged victims of crime who don't have access to the media or have a voice.

I hope he does lose his job, I know I would if I did a stunt like this, I would be unemployed in a heartbeat, and yes, I have a union job. Integrity is part of my employment contract. Smollett's actions definitely lacked integrity.

I disagree. The pundits and politicians who embraced a questionable story to further their political agenda and social narrative should be called out.

Absolutely. If you push a false narrative, you should own up to it when it is revealed to be false.

You should do that on your own, without the prodding of others.

This is ignoring the fact that they shouldn’t have done it in the first place.

Especially when the story was patently absurd.

Two Lakeview brothers who were previously considered “persons of interest” in Smollett’s purported attack told police during interrogations last week that Smollett staged the hate crime because he was upset that the threat letter did not get enough attention, ABC7 Chicago reported Monday afternoon. Detectives are investigating their claim.

Meanwhile, the FBI and the U.S. Postal Inspection Service has been quietly working on the origins of Smollett’s letter for nearly a month. Giving it far more “attention” than he knew.

Late Monday, CWBChicago received confirmation that the letter case has been before a federal grand jury and multiple subpoenas had been generated over the course of the investigation.

In a conversation on Feb. 8th, before police met with brothers Ola and Abel Osundairo, a leading source within the Smollett attack investigation called the hate crime a "false flag" and said “There is a direct line between (the letter) and (the purported attack)." Wow. And to think, he likely staged this hoax because his letter didn’t get the level of attention he hoped for.

It got attention, the absolute worst kind.

Forget the staged attack, this is where he is going to run into the biggest legal issues.

All in all, the federal legal options are numerous: “If they want to bury him, they can.”

Meanwhile, the Osundairo brothers are reportedly holed up in a Chicago hotel with police protection

But if we are to abandon critical thinking in favor of believing an implausible story in the name of believing every victim, without question, that does a huge disservice to the people who are falsely implicated. Those people are the true victims.
IMO, a big part of the problem in our country today, and a big part of the divisions between us, is the abandonment of critical thinking, and the automatic, emotional belief in any statement, no matter how extreme or unlikely, as long as it fits a given world view.

His story was pretty clearly suspect from the beginning. Had CPD not been on top of things, had he not been exposed by (granted, unnamed) LE sources, innocent people would still be being blamed, and anyone sceptical accused of racism and bigotry.

We must not abandon our critical thinking skills to such an extent that it prevents us from discerning the true victim. That is also injustice.

Don't get me wrong I believe he deserves all of the above. It may not just be up to the writers or producers of Empire as to what happens. These days the network driven by advertisers control the purse strings. With the #Me Too movement it is blame first, ask questions later.

So they ain't out of the woods yet. If they did this at the behest of someone else, I hope they have some evidence. Like how they got paid, or something else.

IF they can prove there was a rehearsal, that is pretty solid evidence that they were asked to do this stunt.
