'Empire' Actor Did Not Want to Report Attack: Document

It's unclear why the television star was hesitant to report the alleged attack, but the person who did call it in -- whose name is redacted in the document but who police have said was Smollett's manager -- convinced the actor to do so. That person also requested the officers turn off their body-worn cameras, according to the police report.

The report also states that Smollett's injuries were minor and he was "bruised." Under "weapon used" section of the document, it reads "Hand/Feet/Teeth/Etc."

There are lots of possible reasons why a victim would be hesitant to file a report. They may be in initial shock of whatever happened. They may feel lucky to not be more injured and may not want to relive the attack. They may feel that they would not be believed (as evidenced by this thread and elsewhere online). Because he is also a celebrity, he may not want to go through the publicity that would come from this allegation. It was not like he waited years and years before reporting the alleged attack.

When Matthew Shepherd was killed, it made me think that if you were gay, you would be much safer out of Wyoming. It hasn't changed much since then, sadly.

It would be a mockery to Matthew Shepherd, and so many others, if this is an "alleged" attack.

It won't make Matthew look bad. Or any other gay person IMO. Just Jussie, if he's a fraud.

If I had to pick a hat to wear on a 10 degree night (or whatever the temp was), it certainly would not be a MAGA hat. That isn't going to keep your warm.

There's nothing in story/report about anybody wearing a MAGA hat. Alleged assaulters yelled about it being MAGA country or similar. I've only heard they were dressed in dark clothing with ski masks. No skin showing.

If the attack happened in the lower section of E. North Water St, out of view of the camera at New St., then the attackers could have gone further east back towards the camera, or up the stairs to Upper North Water St. (where presumably the same camera or cameras up top would have seen them), or west. If they went west further into the lower section, I am not sure where they would exit or if there are cameras. I hope so.

Do they film the TV show in Chicago and Jussie stays there while working? Or does he just live there?

If the perpetrators took the stairway up to Upper North Water St. to escape, there is a camera on the SE corner of the street on the side of the building approximately 10 feet from the only staircase up.

If the perpetrators ran north on New St. they would've been captured from the camera located at the NE corner of New St. and Lower North Water St.

If the perpetrators ran south on New St. at least one of the cameras that are located on both sides of the street inside the entrance/exits of the garages would have picked up someone running or walking. I have yet to locate the camera for Lizzie McNeil's Irish Pub, at the corner of New St. and East River Dr., but that's not to say the pub couldn't have a security camera. The 400 East River Drive building would pick up anything along the East River Dr. and McClurg Ct. corner.

Thanks! I used to live, work, and go to school in downtown Chicago, so I still remember how to get around. It's pretty easy to see where the cameras are located from google street view.

I know what you mean. I used to work in Chicago for years and my job had accounts all over the city (all Chicago public schools, colleges, hospitals and a lot of high rise and hotel properties) which required me to drive around all day long. You get to know all the ins and outs of the place and would have to have that kind knowledge to do the excellent investigation work you did.

Yes, awesome work! Could they have gone into the parking garage and exited in a vehicle? But I think the parking garage would have cameras and/or record of vehicles leaving. And CPD would be on that like moths to a flame or flies on $$$ or whatever, right?

AFAIK "victim" did not say they were white. He was allegedly called negative things about his sexuality & his race, & for good measure these assaulters yelled out at him "this is maga country". Also early reports couldn't even say if it was 2 men, 2 ladies, 1 of each.
