I’m not sure if this was posted, but this is the entire hearing where state lawmakers grilled DCFS officials about their failure in AJ’s case and other child abuse cases in their state. It’s a little over 2 hours long. *Especially pointed questions were made by Representative Wherley at approx the 1:35:35 mark on the video.

The Tribune has found that DCFS, which has had contact with the family over several years, missed signs of trouble despite hotline calls and police reports that documented squalid living conditions, substance abuse, domestic violence, suspicious bruises and, at times, uncooperative parents. DCFS' acting director said the agency is reviewing its "shortcomings" in the case and would take steps to address those issues.

"It's unfortunate," said Sarah Dakota of Crystal Lake, who with her 2-year-old daughter Skylar waited patiently in the ever-growing line. "Losing a life in general, but especially so young. Hopefully, DCFS standards go up, people are held accountable. Maybe AJ will be the face of change."

Lovey Sauers of Crystal Lake asked why other local agencies and community groups were not contacted by DCFS to help in AJ's case.

She said "there are so many resources" that could have been called to help including shelters, CASA, local churches, schools and Safe Haven at Willow Creek Church.

I was wondering that same thing for a while about how she silenced AJ’s screams.
Those 2 demons need to go straight back to hell. It is obvious they arrived on this earth directly from hell.

Johnsburg resident Jodi Hensley, a mother of three, attended the visitation to pay respects to the child whose story she has been following since the first day it made the news, when his parents, who now are charged with his death, reported him missing April 18, she said.

“I feel like [the story] is part of me, as a mother,” Hensley said.

She described her experience at the visitation as “horrible” and said the questions surrounding the boy’s short life haunt her.

“How can you do that to your child?” Hensley said. “I have been wondering this whole time what kind of stuff he had been through. Did he ever feel real love?”

Visitors remained steady throughout the day and early evening at the funeral home.

Mourners by the hundreds waited in line at a Crystal Lake funeral home Friday to pay their respects to a 5-year-old boy many of them didn’t know but whose tragic death and the circumstances surrounding it left them heartbroken and wondering why more wasn’t done to save him.

But along with the many tears for Andrew “AJ” Freund was also the hope that his sad story would prompt greater action to protect children from the type of life and death authorities said the Crystal Lake boy experienced.

People young and old walked solemnly through the funeral home and past the child’s tiny wooden casket, which was engraved with a cross. An honor guard stood watch, and several comfort dogs were on duty. Floral arrangements were on display throughout the parlor, including one from the Chicago Cubs, another from the Crystal Lake Lions Club and yet another from a family in Florida.

There were stuffed animals, a Batman balloon and toy trucks near the casket and around the funeral home, along with artwork from St. Mary’s preschool in Woodstock. And there were large pictures of a smiling AJ.

Blue ribbons adorned poles and trees along Terra Cotta in AJ’s honor. Several posters showed pictures of AJ with angel wings, along with the words “In loving memory of AJ.” A flag was a half-staff at one local business.

At the nearby Twisted Stem floral design business, a big blue balloon archway was on display. Owner and designer John Regan had just finished making his 1,000th blue bow. He has been giving them to members of the community for them to display since AJ was reported missing April 18.

“I’m helping turn the city blue today,” he said “It’s just a simple gesture.”

I was wondering that same thing for a while about how she silenced AJ’s screams.
Those 2 demons need to go straight back to hell. It is obvious they arrived on this earth directly from hell.

No one likes hearing crying & screaming, in my experience an addict less so.

Another thing very noticeable in the haircut photos is AJ seems very rigid, under the cape. Did you notice? His little body must have hurt all over.

Can’t wait for the demons to be in state prison. Moo

Thanks for posting this, osu. Right now all eyes are on the DCFS and they acknowledged in meeting the absolute repeated failures.

In that video, it was mentioned an additional 7 million dollars is in their account that was not there last year to use for training, and hiring additional staff etc.

Let us hope the heat and accountability will keep the pressure that will enforce the necessary changes in a quick and thorough fashion.

Again, I can only hope that there are dedicated individuals that will band together and hold all accountable and ensure those monies are allocated appropriately for all the innocent vulnerable children in similar situations that are relying on US to help them - to save them. MOO

Neighbors heard nothing at all?? I am wondering how that can be, they are close together and a broken window to top it off.

I did not notice that AJ was ridged under the cape until you pointed it out. Thank you for doing that.

The procession is starting in Crystal Lake at around noon and will continue through Cary, Fox River Grove, Lake Barrington, Barrington, and Palatine. The Route is Route 14 to Baldwin to Roselle and on to St. Michaels Cemetery( 62 and Roselle).

Good news!
I hope the monsters never get photos or any info from the guardians. At 18, the children can make their own decision. Time has a way of softening things, people cave, etc. I never want JC to have wall decor in her cell.
So my hope is neither ever hears another word about P or the baby. I seriously doubt Drew would be remotely interested, but JC will, imo.
