“To paraphrase what the State said at the discharge hearing, respondent would have to be ‘the unluckiest kid in the world’ because fires seem to ignite wherever he goes, regardless of whom he is around. Accordingly, a rational trier of fact could easily have found on this evidence the elements of the offense beyond a reasonable doubt,” wrote Judge Robert Steigmann with Judges Peter Cavanagh and Amy Lannerd concurring.

The ruling means Feeney’s decision stands and the boy will keep undergoing mental health treatment as previously ordered.

CBS News correspondent Errol Barnett was in the courtroom where the judge laid out the charges against the boy. Barnett said Kyle was barely visible above the back of his chair, and his feet barely touched the ground. During the arraignment, Alwood's attorney had to explain some of the terms the judge used, including the words "alleged," "arson" and "residence."

Kyle left the courtroom in tears with his arms crossed, escorted by his paternal grandfather, Barnett added.

Most of the victims were sleeping, and Alwood was only able to save herself.

"I stood at the window and I told my kids I was sorry I couldn't save them," Alwood said. "Mommy was right here and I loved them. You know, so, at least hopefully they heard that. I told Jason I loved him... And then something told me that they're gone."

"So there was a moment where you could hear them screaming. You could hear your fiancé and then it ended," Barnett said.

"I don't know what's worse. Hearing him scream or when it stopped," Alwood said, choking up with tears.

Psychologists say when a child kills someone, most often it is a parent or sibling, most often to stop sexual or physical abuse. Children may also kill due to mental illness, bullying, and sometimes even overwhelming feelings of frustration.

"The number of homicides committed by children under 11 is infinitesimal. These are very rare events," Paul Mones, a lawyer whose clients consist exclusively of children accused of killing their parents, told ABC News.

"The vast majority of parricides -- the murder of a parent -- committed by minors involve physical abuse and generally involve teenagers. Seventy-five percent of such murders involve boys who kill their fathers and 15 percent involve boys who kill their mothers," Mones finished.

Was there ever any further info on the Mom’s claim quoted in this link? That seems like a lot of issues for a kid to have. I hope he is getting help.

Thanks for that link.

It's so hard to find updates when minors are involved. But, from that story, it seems as though, even if he is convicted of those murders at some point, he will only be on probation. And I bet any time he's spent in juvenile facilities will be counted as "time served."

What is he now? 14?
