No foul play to me means he took his own life. This is wild speculation, but if he loves live music and travel, this year may have been particularly hard on him. In a long Chicago winter with no end to the pandemic in clear sight, I see how one could feel hopeless.
That's a good point. It's always hard to know. He looks so happy in the pictures that were shared but I guess that's usually the case and can be deceiving. My opinion is that he was carrying a few extra pounds and had a health event - heart attack, etc. I'm in New England and frequently exercise outside as long as it's 20+ and sunny so he could have been doing a hike. As with you, this is purely my speculation.

Lane Campbell, a fixture of Chicago’s live music scene who went missing in February, was found dead Friday, the Cook County Sheriff’s Office confirmed.

Campbell’s body was found around 1 p.m. in a Cook County Forest Preserve near 163rd Street and Central Avenue in Oak Forest, officials said in a news release. There were no indications of foul play but investigators are awaiting an autopsy to confirm the cause of Campbell’s death, according to the sheriff’s office, which took over the investigation from Oak Forest authorities.

“Everyone is just shell shocked,” Hughes said Friday evening, speaking on behalf of some family and friends. “I am very disappointed, but I knew coming in there was this chance. I just wanted to do right by my friend.”

Since there was "no foul play", we may never know the cause or manner of death unless a family member releases that info.

I'll keep my ears open in case I hear anything from locals, but wouldn't want to post any hearsay.

If in fact Lane took his own life, that info may be further confirmed by an autopsy and released by LE after notification to the family. IMO

Well I guess it's none of my business but I think about this case every night. This guy seemed to be well liked. He was still good friends with his ex-wife (how often does that happen?), kept in touch with his law school buddy and was close with his father and sister. And he loved good music! I think I would have enjoyed hanging out with him and I'm not a "people person". Anyways, like I said, it's none of my business, but I'm interested to know what happened to Lane and am truly sorry for the loss suffered by his friends and family.

So Lane's obituary has now posted. It was brilliantly written and does a great job highlighting his passions. I love the fact that he talked about what songs he wanted played at his memorial. I thought I was the only one who did that and now feel a little better about that. And he quoted "the Band" - they were a musical treasure. It was also noteworthy that donations can be made to NAMI, among other organizations. My spouse has been to NAMI (I think it's National Association for Mental Illnesses) to find ways to support our child who struggles with bi-polar and I think I'll make a donation in Lane's name He seemed like a good guy. I wish I knew him.
