The whole story is sad, and it is not over. I am not sure that even suicide can be conclusively the MOD. It may turn into a cold case. But as far as we now know, which is nothing, there is no evidence of a homicide. I feel badly for his family and have doubt that they were privy to a plan, if there was one. Just me, but their silence indicates to me that they , in their worst hour, even suspected suicide, themselves. We do not and may never know what his thought process was. His family may. JMO

I think the three they cleared via receipts and video are not the ones they are still thinking are POI and are the ones Gliniewicz would have called in about it. This would be two totally different sets of two white/one black.

I would hate for LE for to be so quick to pin this on anyone that they grab the first group of people who don't have a solid alibi for that day.
Can you imagine if that group from the videos didn't have eye witnesses and receipts to prove they weren't there what could have happened to them?

So another set of three people are poi's now? Or just there are new people who are poi's? I've read every post but have been unable to make sense of who (not who but why) these recent poi's were mentioned by LE.
Another exact set would be too weird imo.

My thought was maybe LE is protecting the identities of the original poi's for some reason.
I agree their identities should be protected and, as you say, am glad people haven't been falsely targeted if they didn't shoot CJG.

I agree with everything you said here. Dear God, his poor family. I don't even have words ...

Many posts are reading as if suicide has been confirmed.
Did I miss something?

I think that there will NEVER be a way of disproving 3 poi's because the Lt. is dead. So, (we have all heard his call) it can never be proven that he was staging. We can suspect that, based on lack of evidence, but objectively, LE must leave the possibility of the truth of the call out there, and announce that the 3 called about are certainly poi's.......JMO

So going by this, I would argue that it would be more probable and logical that Gliniewicz actually shot himself (twice) as opposed to the idea that 2 white men and a black man took his gun, shot him with it, left the gun behind, and all disappeared without a trace before backup arrived 2 minutes later. JMO. I know that's not a happy ending. But I just want to get to the truth.

Could be....

Yet if my memory serves me well, back up arrived 3 minutes later and then remember it took them another 8 minutes before they found a stationary object...Lt.Gliniewicz's body in the tall grass.

When one then considers three determined suspects on the move running for their lives through a wooded area with what appears to be (again if my memory's good) about a 13 or 14 minute head start,It seems to me they'd have a heck of a good chance of separating theselves from the scene via one of several routes.

It's reasonable to believe that between the 3 suspects they had a least one car available.

The best scenario for this group is that it's the black suspect's vehicle and he's got a 13-14 minute head start to get out of town neutralizing Fox Lake's caucasian dominated demographics and the 2 white guys split up and continued with business as usual (especially if they're locals)

I still think and still hope it wasn't suicide, but must say it's a rumor I'm encountering among area locals.

A beautiful sunny 80 degree day here in Northern Illinois. We rode out to the Rockford area.It was my first time on Grass Lake Rd. since Lt.Joe's funeral procession.I was amazed at the overwhelming number of blue ribbons, the thin blue line banners wrapped around trees or telephone poles and scores of small American flags all as if frozen in time still morning his loss.

Yesterday, not knowing so much posting was going on here, I fell down another rabbit hole.
The case of the brutal murder of Valerie Percy in Kenilworth, Illinois, 1966. She was one of Senator Percy's daughters.
The case has not been solved afaik. I didn't finish reading the thread but noticed some new posts which is how I noticed the case (it surfaced within the cold case forum).
Another case that makes you wonder why or how LE has not solved
it, especially with forensic advancements made since then.

Fox Lake officer's killing: Feds reduce involvement in Joe Gliniewicz case

(CNN) -- “Some federal law enforcement agencies have either reduced or ended their involvement in helping solve the mysterious shooting death of Fox Lake, Illinois, police Lt. Joe Gliniewicz.
The U.S. Marshals' Fugitive Task Force pulled out of the investigation on September 4, according to a marshals service official, who said task force members were "redeployed to other assignments due to the fact no wanted suspects or persons of interest had been identified for them to locate."
In addition, the number of agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms assigned to the case has dropped from 48 to 10, according to a bureau official.
Detective Chris Covelli, a spokesman for the Lake County Sheriff's Office, told CNN that federal agencies are "fully involved" in the investigation.”

“George Filenko, commander of the Lake County Major Crime Task Force, told CNN on September 4 that a "significant piece of evidence" was found at the crime scene. That evidence was a second shell casing, meaning two shots were fired at different locations within the crime scene, CNN has learned.”

So, some of the troops bailed out before the first weekend! And, the significant piece of evidence was a second shell casing.

Well I think they got it all! The body, the gun, and two shell casings. All done.

Is it a safe bet both casings were from the same (his) gun?

But we don't know the evidence.
LE still claims the results haven't been returned to the investigators.

But, LE would have known if that was the Lt's gun that was found at the scene just by its serial number I would think. I mean, we know now but remember LE said they didn't have results back.
Right!

If they keep results on the down low, I don't think that is fair to the public after all the community has gone through.

I think if this was a murder we'd be seeing something totally different by now. I think it will be ruled either suicide or inconclusive, though with suicide out in the open, I kinda get the feeling the public is being prepared to hear that this was self-inflicted/suicide.

Right. This is why we serve ourselves well by not automatically swallowing information generated by MSM. We are all capable of objectivism and logic. You don't have to wear a tin hat to recognize an agenda. You just have to think. And accept or reject based on logic. which is science. JMO

This is my reply to those who suggested, rather demanded, an apology for my even suggesting the possibility of suicide when there was no evidence found to support the radio call reporting 3 suspicious suspects.

The reporting of the three suspicious suspects part of what happened is what I find most offensive about the suicide theory though. Not meaning by you but that a LE Lt. would point his finger at three people if they weren't there.
A claim that had potential to land innocent people in serious hot water with long term ramifications.
Unless there were three specific LE he blames for ruining his upward momentum (now I'm writing pure fiction) and his story was meant figuratively as in, you know who you are and why I shot myself.

I have been lurking as well and am curious about what appears to be a cabin located just over 100 yds almost straight south of the locked gate on Honing. I haven't seen it mentioned. I have attached 2 jpg's from GE from 4/2/13 that show it. Has this been discussed or identified previously?

Skel, do you have thoughts about how the cabin could fit into the crime?
I don't believe there's been discussion about a particular cabin.

rsbm

Myself, I suspect that the family would be the last to suspect a suicide, bless them. I can't read anything into their silence. This is just a hunch, but I do not think they would have been party to a suicide plot, if it had happened. I hope not, at least.

I also suspect that this case will end up, formally, as an undetermined MOD. This will seem weird, but part of me hopes that he killed himself, just because it seems more awful to me that some dirtbag gets to choose when you die. If you're sold on the idea, well, why not you choose the time rather than someone else. (I'm not endorsing suicide here, just saying that homicide is in some ways much more awful.)

Here is how I see it. You have a task force who wants to believe the people existed. They initially called them suspects. Then there was a group of three who were thought to be the suspects but for various reasons were cleared and have nothing to do with this case and this is even clear to the task force because of overwhelming evidence even the FBi has seen. But the task force doesn't want to concede they never existed so they change it to persons of interest and hope and pray they hit the lottery and there is another group of the out there that gliniewicz did see.

They aren't protecting anyone because there aren't anyone. Those three from what gather were a huge coincidence to begin with.

I think if this was a murder we'd be seeing something totally different by now. I think it will be ruled either suicide or inconclusive, though with suicide out in the open, I kinda get the feeling the public is being prepared to hear that this was self-inflicted/suicide.

Would a few LE cover up a murder if the Lt. had the goods on the department (the part about the internal investigationS)?

This is so bad.

That is what my friend hinted at. He said before the holiday weekend they started getting suspicious.

Makes me wonder if Filenko found rhe evidence trying to get them to stay?
