Here is how I see it. You have a task force who wants to believe the people existed. They initially called them suspects. Then there was a group of three who were thought to be the suspects but for various reasons were cleared and have nothing to do with this case and this is even clear to the task force because of overwhelming evidence even the FBi has seen. But the task force doesn't want to concede they never existed so they change it to persons of interest and hope and pray they hit the lottery and there is another group of the out there that gliniewicz did see.
They aren't protecting anyone because there aren't anyone. Those three from what gather were a huge coincidence to begin with.
Someone could have been holding a gun to his head.
His voice sounded funny - has it been confirmed that's how he sounded in the days leading to his death?
I'm all over the place within my own imagination now.
