For those who are still open to all possibilities, if this was a homicde do you think it happened spontaneously or it was a set up?

A setup's my 3rd most likely choice after homicide
by generic "bad guys" , followed by suicide with 4th place going to unintended suicide.

Why a setup? I don't know what the heck's going on in Fox Lake but I've had a gut feeling that no matter how this shakes out, the Mayor's account of his meeting with Lt. Joe the day before his death is full of crapola.

I am sure the feds will flesh out what went on at that meeting since they are all under investigation anyway.

Had it only been Fox Lake and maybe a few of the Lake County good old boys then I could see a set up and cover up but not when the Feds and 400 LEO from various agencies were there and found nothing to prove anyone else was there.

We don't know if they found anything or not.

Yes, but the 25% more was what he was eligible for on this later date. That is a big deal.
This is why I think the talk about his retirement is kind of screwy because why would you retire just a few weeks or months shy of such a cut off?

I thought I read that he actually hit 30 years in April 2015, I will have to search for that post.

None the less, he would not have lost a 25% increase but I understand how it may have been interpreted that way. When he reaches 20 years he qualifies for a pension equal to 50% of his salary. This increases 2.5% each year for the next 10 years (21 years = 52.5%, 22 years = 55% etc) up to a max of 30 years = 75%. If he had 29 years he still would have received 72.5%. You can work past 30 years but your pension will not increase above 75%. Hope this helps.

Why is suicide still on the table if they found evidence someone else was there?

Plus are you saying 400 LEO are covering up an inside job?

They could've found evidence that someone else was there but can't prove for certain when they were there or if they were present at the time of his death JMO.

No.

Why did they pick up their toys and leave so soon? And when will they be offering reward money, as Filenko suggested they would, in one of his last pressers?

No.

Oh I agree with that! They can find evidence of people everywhere but they have to be able to prove it related to his death in some way and they haven't done that.

Exactly! I really want to know if the FBI was asked to provide a reward and said no or if they haven't even been asked yet?
They certainly haven't offered or it would be so.

My only thing is. Once you hit the sirens on your patrol car. The camera starts recording. So why didn't he put on his sirens to signify that he was about to stop them while they were walking?

Why did he wait until he was on foot to contact dispatch. When he supposedly seen them while doing a vehicle patrol.

Also. He was not in front of them when he called dispatch. So why not give clothing description at the least.

The lack of description while not in direct danger just seems odd.

Good points, although I figure a cop inflicted setup would cover it's tracks better than the average perp.

(IF) this was a suicide my money's on the Mayor knowing why.

I can't find the info of his official start date. I have tried doing a search and haven't found it yet.
Oh thanks. I didn't know it was added to each year. I thought it was just 50% at 20 and then 75% at 30.

The next part is just me thinking out loud. It might not make much sense.

I know he was active duty military. Assuming he entered the military after the age of 18 on august 25, 1981 and after graduating high school in May-June 1981.
How many times did he reenlist? Were they two years at a time as I think was the minimum in the 80's? That would take you to Aug 1985.
He left active duty around that time and became a cop.

So unless he was only in the military for one enlistment and did something else before he went on to become a cop?
Is there anything out there that show he was on another PD?

According to Filenko he was out walking for those 20 minutes and not near his car at all. So he had to have seen the guys after he got out of the patrol and was already walking around for some time.
Which is convenient for not being on dash cam....
I think the description was where I got hung up real quick on this. It was too vague considering he was "suspicious" he never even said what they were doing that was so suspicious either.

I think it is screwy that the Mayor volunteered the meeting so readily. He had no reason to tell the press that at all. Which makes me suspious that something was said one way or another and the Mayor wants to deflect.

I think the Mayor knows a great deal here....

I think he was army reserve for quite a while after his initial stint. Not sure. JMO

Agree. I couldn't have said it better.

In addition to prints, there should be skin cells and dna from any perspiration on the gun as well.

A humid 70 degree morning coupled with possible running plus nervous perspiration -one would think the chances of getting this from whoever last touched the gun would be pretty good.
