The indictments also charges Kelly’s former employees, Derrel McDavid, 58, and Milton Brown, 53. McDavid faces one count of conspiracy to receive child *advertiser censored*, two counts of receiving child *advertiser censored*, one count of conspiracy to obstruct justice. Milton is charged in the indictment with a single count of conspiracy to obstruct justice.

Kelly appeared in court Friday (July 12), but is expected to remain locked up until at least July 16.

Interesting article. "Kelly "performed" for less than 30 seconds for an audience of people who paid $30-$100 to see him.". That is so wrong.

And he is trying to flee to "India", stating that he has "performances" booked. This guy is slime. No one is giving him any money, and I don't think anyone will bail him out of jail this time. If he even gets bail. Kelly is going to the "big house".

Federal system doesn't have bail. You either get pre-trial release or you don't.
He will have a pre-trial risk assessment done.
Then the pre-trial services people will determine whether he should be released and under what conditions.
The government will surely oppose it but the judge will decide.
It'll probably happen pretty quickly, I'm guessing a hearing next week.

It will be interesting to compare/contrast this case with Jeffrey Epstein. People all around them knew what was happening with the girls and even helped make it happen.

Maybe, just maybe, with both of these high-profile cases against girls, attitudes will change about the crimes? Maybe?

Maybe. I don't know. We seem to live in a "rape mentality" culture. Even when these men are actually caught, the penalties are almost nothing in comparison to the crimes. The rape activity is minimized, "He is from a "good family".". Or "Well, she was very mature and it was consensual.". (That was a remark from a judge in Montana, about a 14 year old girl).

We definitely do live in a “rape culture” and it can be seen often. I think awareness is starting to rise a lot though, and I hope people can continue to bring up hard issues often with the people around them.. I think communication and knowledge can help resocialize people to understand and appreciate consent...
I thought the documentary series that came out around New Years was incredibly eye opening and an amazing tool to give these young women (and girls) a voice where previously no one was listening.
This gives me a lot of hope as well for the young women stuck in denial and still wrapped up with this horribly damaged, manipulative, powerful human.

In Turnabout, a Key Witness Is Cooperating in R. Kelly Case

In a sign of how dramatically Mr. Kelly’s fortunes have changed, a lawyer for that girl, now a woman in her 30s, said on Tuesday that she was cooperating with federal investigators.

The extent of her cooperation was not immediately clear, but the statement from her lawyer, Christopher L. Brown, came just days after Mr. Kelly was accused in a federal indictment of paying the girl and her father to stay quiet, and in some cases to lie to investigators to protect him.

On Tuesday, Mr. Kelly stood in a federal courtroom in Chicago in an orange jumpsuit and ankle shackles and pleaded not guilty while his lawyer, Steve Greenberg, argued that his client was not a flight risk, noting he had been present for all his previous court dates. A Cook County judge set a Sept. 14 trial date for R. Kelly who is charged in four sexual abuse cases.

Judge Lawrence Flood gave Cook County prosecutors until Jan. 22 to chose which of the four cases they will take to trial first.

Kelly is expected to stand trial in May in federal court in New York. A federal judge in Chicago set an April 27 date for Kelly to stand trial on charges that he videotaped himself having sex with underage girls, and conspired with others to intimidate or buy off witnesses in a 2008 child *advertiser censored* trial in Cook County that ended with his acquittal. One of the four cases now pending against Kelly in Cook County involves the same victim in the 2008 trial.
