I noticed a new post in my Laws and Regulations in Indonesia FB group today about someone who overstayed their visa, was deported with a 6 month ban and when they tried to re-enter a year later, they found out a 6 month ban doesn’t just automatically end in 6 months.
You have to jump through some hoops to get any ban lifted, and depending on the reason you where blacklisted, those hoops may not be passable for some people, indefinitely.
Especially if your passport says “Sheila von Wiese Mack”, jmo.

Blacklisted from Indonesia? How to return legally

How to resolve a temporary blacklisting.

A temporary blacklisting is supposed to last only 6 months unless extended. However, in practice it automatically renews indefinitely. You would think that the easiest way to deal with this is just to wait for the blacklisting to expire and then hop on a plane to Indonesia. Over the years many people tried this approach and were unfortunately denied at the border.
Now you know better: a temporary blacklisting is supposed to last only 6 months unless extended. However, in practice, it automatically renews indefinitely.

Appeal Process
Wait for at least 6 months. This is the minimum blacklisting period. You can not appeal to end the blacklisting sooner.

Have your sponsor/agent make the appeal in person for you, at the address above. You will need someone who has legal status in Indonesia to submit the application for you. Have them bring all the required documents listed in the next paragraph.

Wait for the immigration officials to produce a blacklist removal letter (Surat Berakhir Masa Penangkalan). In most cases, this will be a same-day process.

Have your sponsor/agent fax a copy of this letter to the Indonesian Embassy/Consulate where you intend to apply for a visa. You have to fax it, even though more modern technology is now available.

Apply for a visa once the Embassy/Consulate received the fax. Check out
the different visit visas for Indonesia that you can apply for.

Refused Appeals
In some cases, for whatever reason, your appeal for removal from the blacklist will be denied. In this case, you will have to take your case to the State Administrative Court (Peradilan Tata Usaha Negara). What to do from here is beyond the scope of this article, and you should probably engage the services of a lawyer to resolve this.

ETA [She’s going to need a lot more money to enter Bali once she gets out of jail, jmo]

IL - Sheila von Wiese Mack, 62, found dead in suitcase in Bali, 12 Aug 2014 *fnd guilty in Bali* #6

11/3/21 Update: After spending seven years in an Indonesian prison for allegedly helping her boyfriend kill her mother & stuff the body in a suitcase, all Mack wanted to do when she returned to the United States with her 6-year-old daughter, Stella, was enjoy the banalities of normal life. But minutes after she landed at Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport on Wednesday, 11/3/21, immigration officers escorted Mack off the airplane & into federal custody. Mack faces charges of conspiracy to kill in a foreign country, conspiracy to commit foreign murder of a U.S. national & obstruction, according to a federal indictment unsealed Wednesday. If convicted, she could face life sentences for the first two charges, 20 years for the third & also be fined $250,000. Mack pleaded not guilty in a federal courthouse in downtown Chicago on Wednesday. Her lawyer Keith Spielfogel plans to request that Mack be released on bond pending trial. She was deported to the United States & brought along her daughter, who is now in the custody of a family attorney Vanessa Favia. Schaeffer is still in Indonesia serving his sentence. Mack is due back in court next Wednesday, 11/10/21 for a detention hearing. An initial hearing to discuss Kia Walker’s emergency request for visitation rights for Stella is scheduled to take place early next week.
11/10/21 Update: Lawyers for Mack waived her right to a detention hearing Wednesday on Federal murder conspiracy charges stemming from the 2014 slaying of her mother at a Bali vacation resort. The decision means Mack, who was arrested by the FBI last week after being deported from Indonesia, will be held in custody while the charges are pending without bond, though her lawyers could renew a request for bond at any point. Mack's next scheduled court appearance is status hearing on 1/18/22. Court records show a Cook County probate judge issued an emergency order Tuesday appointing one of Mack’s attorneys, Vanessa Favia, as the girl’s guardian. 11/12/21: Judge Norgle also notified attorney Keith Spielfogel that he had been formally appointed to be Mack’s defense attorney.

Thanks for the update- good to know she will remain in custody

Her lawyer wants more time to look over the discovery evidence. As indicated in the article, it’s a pretty cut and dried case and he shouldn’t need any more time beyond the extension granted today. Held over until April 6th. A trial date should be able to be set by then but as with most defense lawyers and clients, they’ll probably try to extend that as many times as possible as the conditions and perks in a local county jail when you are being held for trial and not convicted (innocent until proven guilty) are usually better than in a federal prison once you are convicted. And that time is considered time served on any subsequent conviction. Jodi Arias was a master at that. My opinion only of course.

I read this whole thing. Does anyone know why the grandmother has not been able to get custody? I saw the girl Oshar post a picture of stella on her facebook the other day? And does anyone know if tommy has gotten any sentence reductions? There’s like nothing isn’t even news about him seems like HM still wants attention all these years

Been meaning to get on here since I read the Sun Times article. Bless Diana Ellis! Getting Stella means dealing with Heather, who killed her best friend. The article quotes Ellis as saying she is financial secure, (lives in Beverly Hills), and doesn't need Stella's money. Seems like a much better choice than Kia Walker. (Tommy was couch surfing when he met HM. I don't think his home life was stellar.) Poor Stella is now 6, has moved from prison, to Osha's house, to Fiona's house, and now, maybe Diana's. Only time she has been with an actual parent was in prison. She is going to need A LOT of counseling if she is every going to have a hope of a normal life.

Isn't 'Aunt Diana' the one that was letting HM and Osha stay will her when they were coming here... doesn't she have a documentary in the works.... Wasn't she selling Stella and HM's story and thats why she wants her know AND why HM is ok with it? She knows she'll get money out of it.

Yes and yes. DRE recently tagged her trip to Oak Park on IG, where she met with Stella at VF’s home, with the hashtag #docuseries. I don’t know if “Aunt Diana” is the best choice either. Does anyone in that poor child’s life just want her to have a shot at a normal life with a normal adoptive family?

MOO

I honestly don't know if it's the best choice for Stella. Either I forgot or I missed knowing about this woman. She sounds like she has her own money with the two housekeepers and an art studio. Does she have a monetary motive like so many others?

Nature vs Nurture is always debatable; however, I think it's appropriate to ask certain questions. (MOO, Heather came with by nature problems, but also seemed to be spoiled throughout her life.) What's Aunt Diana's relationship with her own two grown children like now? She said she had her own ideas when Sheila was having problems raising Heather. So, I take it she thinks her own children turned out fine. MOO, everything about this decision for Stella matters.

I agree that there has been damage to Stella's psyche with all this little girl has already been through. I just want to see her placed with someone that will provide her with stability, care about her, and recognize that she'll benefit from ongoing counseling. I do appreciate hearing what you all are considering and thinking.

1/18/22 Update: Mack & defense attorney Jeff Steinback appeared in federal court via telephone Tuesday afternoon, where the judge granted Steinback's request for additional time to review pre-trial discovery provided by the government. Mack is due back in court on 4/6/22.

After living the first few years of her life in prison, then living here and there, 6yo Stella deserves to live with a mom who is stable, independent, financially well-off, kind yet firm and most of all loving. If Stella can be exposed to normal American kid activities such as basketball, soccer, ballet, piano and tennis bc Aunt Diana can afford these things for Stella, and make these things available for Stella, then I think it's better than being near an undependable murdering, chaotic mother or, although she's kind, Stella's elderly maternal grandmother, the mother of loser and felon Tommy, the father.

Who doesn't want to grow up in Beverly Hills? I see it as a win - win situ for both parties. To hell with Heather Mack. HM Murdered her mother in cold blood, stuffed her inside sa suitcase and is free to walk the streets anywhere in America... I don't think so. Let Stella Go!

I don’t know. It seems like this woman has an agenda unrelated to a desire to help Stella. She might also truly want to help Stella but she is also working on a documentary.
And money isn’t everything. We saw what it did to HM.

Moreover, this woman seems very chummy with HM.

I don’t know. It could be good but it could be bad.
