Respectfully, I am tired of seeing people throw around the words psychopath and sociopath here. Those people have no empathy, so the idea to put one out of ones misery wouldn't occur to such people.

My thinking, anyway, I'm not a psychiatrist.

(Not that I believe his goal was to put her out of her misery... unless he'd already harmed her and then in his twisted mind... ugh. Nevermind. Grr)

BBM. A sociopath would make that up for self preservation. And that is exactly what IMO JD did.

I may be really odd, but originally I could kind of sympathize (just kind of) with the whole "mercy killing" thing. It has always been my initial, guttural reaction when I see a person or animal suffering in intense pain that "someone has to do something immediately to end their suffering." I know my reaction is completely illogical. I am not a medical professional or a vet so how do I know if the person/animal is really dying? People and animals can survive horrific events. I once ran over a kitten and was screaming for my husband to end her suffering when she only had a broken leg. (My husband, thinking my hysterics were ridiculous, did not comply with my request and with a little treatment, she was completely fine.) I honestly don't know how I would react if I panicked and thought someone I loved was dying a horrific death. That said, I can tell you for darn sure that I would not fail to call 911 and hide the body. Add to that the information that has come out about Willow's uncle chasing poor Willow down for allegedly scratching him and his strange details about masturbating and kitty litter and I don't for a second give that guy any sympathy....my sympathy is all for precious Willow.

We can be odd together because I tried to rationalise it to. That was before I heard that he attacked her with a knife. But before I knew about the knife, I still decided it's so darn obvious that you call an ambulance even if you think she won't make it. You just don't know. It's not his decision to make. The only situation I've come up with where I think *maybe* a mercy killing is understandable on an emotional level (still not legal) is a really horrific deadly injury and any help is hours away. Clearly not the case here. And I don't believe for one second that Willow 'accidentally' fell on a stick. I did think that there was a stick involved in some manner, but now I think that's a lie. And the mercy killing story is a complete fabrication, imo. A truly bizarre one at that.

ETA: Slitting someone's neck and stabbing them in the heart is never ever going to be a merciful act, ever.

Warning Graphic :

I do feel like everything he has said is to cover something. There is a tiny bit of truth to everything. While I do feel he intended to kill her for no good reason, he may have been startled by the suffering. I keep trying to think "Why slit her throat, and stab her". I know it has been said her that if he slit her throat she would be silent. Unfortunately that is not always the case. A wound to the throat can produce noises, even screams, horrible ones. So if he intended to kill her by slitting her throat, and then couldn't take the suffering he was being "forced" to watch he may have stabbed her just to get her to die quicker. He may try and justify that as a mercy killing, even though he didn't have to slit her throat in the first place. It would not have been any empathy for her however, he would have done it just so he didn't have to suffer through it.

Bolded by me....I just had flash backs from the Trenton Duckett case and Caylee Anthony case...and I agree.

I still think we will learn there was some type of sexual abuse or attempt of sexual abuse and why he told LE about going to the bathroom to masturbate. I cannot think of any reason to even mention it except to cover up some thing connected to the events of that evening. jmo

Stabbing is so personal a method. IMO he wanted to see the suffering. It has crossed my mind a few times that the slashing of the throat was indicative of little Willow "talking/telling" IMO.

I must be missing it, Ive read it twice and no where can I find that the glasses were found in the bedroom

fourth paragraph, first page.

also, does anyone know if they recovered the murder weapon? the pc states that he "re-entered the residence and grabbed a knife from his bedroom".

does LE have the knife? TIA!

It is interesting that the Probable Cause Statement says... "she did not return to the residence until after midnight on the morning of Sunday, 8 September, 2013."

That jumped out at me too...

The statement about coming home "after midnight on the morning of Sunday, 8 September, 2013" leaves a lot of room for what time she actually DID come home on Sunday...

JMO

From google maps...the area they are searching is across the railroad tracks from Willow's home.

Is it possible that Willow would go to the bathroom without her glasses on? I get up at night in the pitch black. Maybe she went into the bathroom and he went in there after her. It would explain why he says he was in there doing his man thing... and not in his bedroom.

People call 911 if their cable goes out, or they get the wrong order from McDonalds. It is almost a natural response these days, everyone knows to call 911 for an emergency. If you do not call for help when someone is allegedly dying in front of you...there is no excuse IMO.

To "end her suffering" he slit her throat AND stabbed her 5 times!? That's overkill IMO.

WARNING VERY GRAPHIC********

I am going to bring this up once again...everyone keeps talking like he actually stabbed her five times in the chest...PLEASE READ the Probable Cause report. It does not say anything about stabbing to the chest...This has been bugging me since last night when I read another poster write it, it enlightened me, and I posted about it.

He alleges he stabbed her five times, this is going off the perps confession, however when you read the AUTOPSY findings, it does not reflect that ever happening.

I can see where he might have tired to slit her throat, she was fighting him off, got the defense wounds on her hands. He slit her collerbone and clavicle area in his attempt to slit her throat before finally getting it on target and slicing her throat. I also see where he stabbed her in the throat, but nowhere does it say anything about chest wounds. It really bothers me that he fabricated stabbing her in heart five times, this could be him setting up a defense also for the future.

IMHO

Scroll down past the news article to the probable cause document. It is on page 1, 4 paragraph.... http://fox2now.com/2013/09/11/new-details-emerge-in-death-of-willow-long/

"That at the time Willow was reported missing, Willow's glasses were in her bedroom."

So no way was she ready to watch a movie..there is nothing showing she was killed at home other than his word, so was she alive when she was taken from the home? the marks on her arms tell me she was very much alive and fighting for her life at this point..

According to his statement to police, DeRyke said when he yelled at Willow for scratching him, she ran from the house towards the brush pile, tripped, and was
impaled in her neck by a stick.

So that was his initial interview. Then LE, in a follow-up interview, intimate that they have more evidence and he makes the below statement. jmo

In another interview with police, DeRyke reportedly told them he had spent the evening playing video games with friends on-line. Then he said he went into the bathroom to watch a pornographic video at about 10:30 p.m.

I think the reporting about JD going to work Sun. morn. is wrong....mom says he was at the house while she was initially searching for Willow....oooops.....maybe not. We don't really know what mom has said, do we? Somewhere in this tragedy, people didn't keep their stories straight. The reporters messed up or LE made up the initial story about Willow walking out of the house after being fed breakfast by mom and mom going back to bed. How long was it before we even knew there was a 22 yr. old living in the house?

Oh I was just using the "five times" because he's so darn SPECIFIC about the strangest things in his confession - stabbing her 5 times, 30 minutes in the bathroom, etc. If you were in a panic about something would you remember something as specific as that? Whenever I'm freaking out and panicking I practically forget to breathe!

Yeah but his parents were gone, his sister was out so why would he need to go in the bathroom to masturbate ESPECIALLY if he was supposed to be watching Willow and her little brother. I noticed in the probable cause report that he was in the bathroom for 30 minutes. He's awfully specific with odd things - stabbing her 5 times for example. For someone in a supposed panic, he somehow managed to keep track of how many times he stabbed her? He somehow keeps track of how long he was watching *advertiser censored* and masturbating? What time did all of this happen? Was it after the kids went to bed? If so, why would he need to be in the bathroom? If he was in the bathroom, what if Willow walked in on him and he decided to act on his urges (she fought back) OR maybe she saw something he was watching (child *advertiser censored* perhaps?). Either way he was afraid she'd tell.

I think there are elements of truth in his story. It's easier to stick with a lie when it mirrors the truth. I believe he was watching *advertiser censored*, masturbating, Willow made him angry somehow, he killed her. I can't see her successfully running away from him if she couldn't see without her glasses. I think the falling on a pile of sticks and one impaling her throat is hogwash. To "end her suffering" he slit her throat AND stabbed her 5 times!? That's overkill IMO.

Does anyone know if they will check his system for drug use?

The only parts of his story I believe is that he was watching *advertiser censored* and he got mad. Not specifically at the same time. There's elements of truth sprinkled into his tale ala other killers we have seen. I am not sure why so many people are taking what he said as facts and trying to fit the case around it.
